Hot weather movie watching traditions?
Anyone have a hot weather movie tradition? Ever since Poltergeist advertisements scared the hell out of me one summer when I was sleeping in the basement to avoid the heat, I've always associated that film with high temperatures.
Each summer on what looks like the hottest day of the year I cue it up. Since today it hit 108 at my house, I think tonight's the night.
I might fold Alien in, too, for the same reasons.
Anyone else?

Jaws, Waterworld... any movies which came out during summer is what I usually watch. The same with other seasons...

I'll watch a Warren Miller show every so often throughout the summer. I don't think that's what you're looking for, though.

OK now that I think about it, I guess I'm asking if anyone ever says "Damn, it's hot, I gotta watch [X]!
For me, it's Poltergeist ...

Companeros has been a summer tradition of mine for a few reasons:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Yqb-cWoVdM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Yqb-cWoVdM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
-It's fun/buddy/action-adventure that I can associate with summer blockbusters.
-I've seen over 40 spaghetti westerns, but I can't ever recall seeing the Spanish locations looking so hot the way it does here.

I usually watch Do The Right Thing or Summer of Sam, which capture the nuances of summer weather better than any other films I've seen.

As a kid me and my friends would always pop in Major League on a nice Summer morning to get us in the mood to play baseball the rest of the day.
Also, like Artman, I like watching Summer blockbusters of years past.

For some reason I always watch UHF nonstop during the summer.

A cold beer in hand. That's about it.
The only seasonal movie watching tradition I have is around Christmas (the obvious Christmas movie marathons).

Glad I'm not the only one with this weird issue. Grindhouse for me (both Death Proof and Planet terror).

Yep, I have some movies that I associate with summer and tend to give them a watch at that time of the year---mostly summer blockbusters that I associate with seeing in the theater and enjoying on their initial run:
Star Wars
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Superman II
Jurassic Park
The Mummy (1999)
War of the Worlds (Cruise)

The ones I've been to have been weak as well. I think it's more of an energy savings thing than anything. They turned up the thermostats.

Re: Hot weather movie watching traditions?
BUMPING my own stupid thread since it hit 115 today and I'm pretty sure this will be the hottest day this year, Poltergeist coming up!
since I've watched this movie 12 times since starting this thread, I feel more than ever that it is a perfect movie. I really love it! It deserves a great tell-all book if such a thing is possible, and most definitely a good special edition hopefully in 4K. Can we have that please?

I pick the worst or least desirable movies I own and watch them in the Summer since it is not a pleasant experience and save the good ones for cooler weather.
You can't really enjoy anything when it is hot.

Why do you own and bother watching movies you consider to be “the worst or least desirable”?
None of that comment makes any sense.
