Ummm, I'm not sure this fits into any other forum so I'll give it a shot here.

I've got the DVD player and I've got 5 speakers. Now, I just need a cheap (but decent) receiver that is capable of decoding DD 5.1. Checking out some B&Ms, the JVC RX-6000VBK appears to be decent enough. Anybody else have any experience with this particular player? If not, can anybody recommend a cheap one. Thanks a lot...

Thanks, damn_skippy. I've looked all over and haven't been able to find a real review of the thing. The best I had come across was Amazon's, but they're just trying to move units. I think I'm going to pick it up at Circuit City for $240, which isn't too bad for a B&M. Just out of curiosty, how long did it take TheBigStore to ship to you? Thanks again...

I went ahead and checked their prices before going the B&M route (I've always hated Circuit City anyways). With second-day delivery, I got it for $211 shipped. This is compared to approx. $252 at CC. Anxiously awaiting DD 5.1 ...

You best bet is to go up to either the jvc 6500 or the 8000. 275 and 365 respectively at Sears. You'll want the extra optical inputs, or you'll regret it later when you want to upgrade stuff. You'll also want that optical OUTput when you want to burn a cd.

My thoughts, only... I have a 6500 and it's great. Do I want the 8000? You bet, but all the wires have been layed out and I'm not excited about getting back there...

They had it priced at $192.95. And, no, I didn't have to pay sales tax.

I have one of the older JVC884 models and they seem a good value for the price. At the time it was the only way to get S-video and DD 5.1 for under $400. It has a little bit of hiss on the surrounds, but I never notice it when a movie is going. If you want to spend $400 or less JVC is a good way to go.

I finally got the thing hooked up with my crappy (albeit functional) speakers. Now, I have one major concern. With a movie that is 5.1, will the receiver automatically take care of this or do I need to put it on a particular setting? The reason I ask is because on the front display there are various logos ("Analog," "Linear PCM," and the Dolby Digital and DTS symbols). The only time that I can get sound to the rears is in "Analog" mode.

Also, what are some movies that are excellent to test my new surround system? Thanks a lot...
