If you're not finding any of the $3 boxsets, it's possible the store is holding them back for 7/29/2009 when the sale is supposed to start:
http://i26.tinypic.com/289k8ix.jpg

Hopefully that's the reason my local big lots has never had any of the $3 sets.

BL must be getting them from multiple sources.

I went to one yesterday and they had a Josie and the Pussycats set for $3. At the bottom of the package was a Best Buy sticker with a $24.99 price tag on it.

BL is getting them from Warner. These are all overstock and store returns.

Went to the Stockton, CA store on Country Club - no cartoon sets, no Tales from the Crypt, just a bunch of War at Homes and not much else of worth. Didn't make it to the West Ln store on time, forgot they closed at 7 and pulled up about a quarter after.

Not that I've found in the south D-FW area. I was at my closest story pretty much when these things hit the shelves. No sign of them except Batman TAS Vol. 3, which someone had in their hands already. Others were cleaned out by the time I made it there.

In DFW I've been able to pick up Space Ghost, Pebbles & Bamm Bamm, Scooby Doo S3, Wacky Races, Top Cat, Josie & the Pussy Cats, and Huckleberry Hound. They just don't last long.

Do not trust the dates in the sales flyer. I stopped at a number of Big Lots Sunday morning that had the sale ad...and only one had even a halfway decent assortment of titles. All the other stores had been picked over...and certainly not that morning.

The lesson to be learned, it's completely luck of the draw with BL. They can put inventory out any time morning, noon or evening; up to individual stores, and the impression I've gotten - they basically put the stuff out when they have the manpower to put it out.

Woodbridge, VA put some of their $3 sets yesterday around 1:00 PM:

Flintstones S1, S2 (both sealed), Jonny Quest (1 copy), Tales From The Crypt S2-S5 (a few each w/2 copies of S1 and no 6 or 7's), Murphy Brown S1 (2 copies), Popeye v1 (at least 15 copies), Top Cat. The rest were the Hot wheels sets, etc... No $10 sets.

More was to be put out later. I went back around 5:30 PM and there was nothing new yet. I asked what was in the back and a very nice employee grabbed one copy each of the different dvd sets and brought them out to show me what was there. Nothing I needed but here's what I saw...

Dasterdly & Muttley Complete, Josie & The Pussycats Complete, Flintstones S3, WB Acadamy Awards Collection, Batman Legend Begins/Tales of the Dark Knight, plus a few others of no interest. Not sure if they're on the floor yet.

Also hit Gaithersburg, MD and found nothing huge but did get Drew Carey S1.

Hit District Heights, MD and same thing but found Reel Talent First Films by Legendary Directors (Lucas, Zemeckis).

Nope. When I found my TFTC they only had 1 copy of each (2 through 6) left. I'm still on the hunt for Season 1 (and fingers crossed season 7 starts showing up). Most everything (with the exception of Flintstones & Popeye) they only had one copy left of what I picked up.

To make things clear, I also really dislike hoarders who go out and buy up all of the sets and re-sell them. But their actions aren't against the law, and the stores haven't imposed a limit, so why make a big scene on here? Just keep it to yourself, and stop threatening people with what everyone sees as a joke.

Fine.

If you want to go to Big Lots and kill each other over DVD's so you can sell them on eBay that works for me. Perhaps the next time I go to Big Lots I will be sure to arrive early with a chair so I can enjoy the show. In the mean time, I have more important things to do.

I picked up Tracy Takes On at the Derry, NH store, they pretty much had nothing.

Managed to find Dasterdly and Muttley at the Nashua, NH store, they didn't have much, a TON of copies of Flintstones Season 2 and the first popeye volume. The Dasterdly disc I got was the only copy.

Stopped by the Hilliard (OH) store on lunch today. I picked up the last Lois & Clark season 3 and one copy of Wacky Races (there were three left). They also had several Josie and the Pussycats, Flintstones season 3, Tracy Takes On... season 1, Popeye, Dallas (season 7, I think), Roots: The Next Generation, Dukes of Hazzard season 5, and --shocking-- Joey season 1.

My store got a good-sized shipment of Nickelodeon stuff about two weeks ago. I picked up some titles for my son. They had a lot of other titles besides the ones the above poster purchased, including Spongebob, Rugrats, Blue's Clues/Room, etc. Most were $4.00, but later I saw some marked $3.00.

My son has already developed my DVD addiction. I've been using these DVDs as inexpensive rewards when he cooperates or does things to help us. I would love it if another Nick wave would come through sometime soon.

You won't be buying as many as you please if enough customers call Big Lots and complain.

I have a complete directory of every Big Lots store in the United States with store numbers, addresses, phone numbers and delivery schedules. Perhaps I should publish it all over the internet (minus the delivery schedules) with a message that urges people to call and complain about people like you.

Interesting. My BL is due for delivery on Thursday but there was a truck out back dropping off today (Monday). I surely wanted to stop the car and take a look in the truck to see if I could spy DVD boxes. The only thing discernable was boxes of Huggies (for parking lot burritos) and toilet paper (napkins for parking lot burritos).

This was at lunchtime so maybe I'll stop by after work to see if anything new is in. I'm not an addict I tell you! Heavens help me....

It varies by store. Based on that list, it seems stuff is not being put out for anywhere from 1 to 5 days.

wow..not that hard to find the numbers for all the Big Lots in the U.S. All you have to do is go to Store Locator and type in the location. Gives you the phone number with the location. And now you post this directory and expect others to do the calling for you? You sir, amuse me.

Ordinary people. The re-sellers (the smart ones anyway) are already aware of it because they would have called the store and asked. How else you you think they manage to show up and grab everything in sight shortly after it is put out on the floor?

Karma is gay.

You got a really nice selection. I found you a copy of the Dastardly & Muttley set, but I saw you finally got it. I will return it and hope I can find Tales from the Crypt S6, Huckleberry Hound and True Blood (in case it shows in my store as somebody else mentioned)

I'm thinking the sales start on the east coast on Sundays and the West coast on Wednesdays. I could be wrong though.

You are wrong. I live on the east coast and our ad starts on wednesday. Also, my brother lives on the west coast and his ad started last saturday.

Ordinary people. The re-sellers (the smart ones anyway) are already aware of it because they would have called the store and asked. How else you you think they manage to show up and grab everything in sight shortly after it is put out on the floor?

Karma is gay.So, are you one of the "smart-ones"? You seem to know a lot about how these re-sellers operate.

My first trip to Big Lots! during this sale. Stopped by the Novato, CA before work today. Had a good amount of DVD's mentioned in this thread as well as ones that have been around for a while.

They had Tales From The Crypt: Seasons 3 & 5, but both were smashed up :(

Picked up:

Veronica Mars: Season 2
The OC: Season 2

wow..not that hard to find the numbers for all the Big Lots in the U.S. All you have to do is go to Store Locator and type in the location. Gives you the phone number with the location. And now you post this directory and expect others to do the calling for you? You sir, amuse me.

Yes, but does the store locator give you the delivery days? That is what would give your average Joe a fighting chance to beat the re-sellers at their own game. The other benefits of having a list are self-explanatory.

I do not expect anyone to call for me, they will call for themselves.

I originally said "without the delivery days" because I created a text file without them that is ordered by state rather than store number but I remembered that I had saved the actual link so that was even better and is self-validating because it comes directly from the source. I already know the delivery days of my local stores so I had no need for them.

Some people seem to be trying awfully hard to discredit the information. They are probably re-sellers who will do anything to protect their meager eBay profits. Kinda reminds me of the Ferengi from Star Trek. They certainly have the "look" going for them.

Talk to a clerk at my BL the one that last week let me go thru the dvd box's from the back, there is no set time to put out dvd when the shelf gets low then they restock it.So delivery dates are nice to know but if the clerk wont help you out with inventory in the back they are just usless info so to speak.

I'm going to buy $3000 to clear off the shelves of my local Big Lots. Then they'd HAVE to bring out new TV box sets, right? RIGHT?

I would, of course, return the DVDs later.

Big Lots is obviously the root of all evil and bent on destroying DVDTalk by having the members kill one another in foaming hatred. I suspect devious Canadian mind control in some way....

I propose we gather our pool noodles and fight back on the field of battle, however beware the minefield of parking lot burritos.

Advance! Screw your courage to the sticking place! Cry havoc!

For the most part, when I've visited Big Lots, if there are others looking at DVD's they've been fairly courteous. They'll make room for others to look at stuff, etc. But not in Sanford, NC.

Two weeks ago when the news first broke about these sets my wife was visiting some friends and I had her stop in the Sanford store. Her and her friend were the only ones looking at DVD's, when suddenly two or three others rushed in, pushed themselves in front and began pawing through the discs.

This past weekend I visited the same store in Sanford. This was late Saturday afternoon...if there had been any serious restocking, it would have been in the morning. The DVD's are squeezed in the electronics aisle, so there's not a lot of room. When I walk in, there are two 20-something kids frantically pawing through stuff, and a young woman with a kid in a shopping cart. The kid was maybe two years old - just old enough to make a fuss. One of the 20-something's smacked the kid on the head, which only made it worse. Meanwhile, they're continuing to paw through the DVD's.

I high-tailed it out of there. Everything I hate about the South and rednecks was encapsulated in that little drama.

i have been going to big lots everyday (sometimes twice) since last friday 7/17 to check if they received anything. Finally, one guy told me to check Weds cause that's when the shipment came in. I came, and there was nothing. Friday, someone tells me they received NO dvds and to better check next Weds. So I'm thinking I'm never going to enjoy this deal like all of you have. So I go today just to check it out. The DVD section was the same, but the electronics was stuffed. I ran to the front to grab a cart so i could fill up.

Batman TAS/Superman TAS Vol 1 (Few)
Batman TAS Vol 2 (Few), 4 (Last one)
The Flintstones (1-5) 3 and 5 were open (Dozen of 1 & 2 each)
Popeye (a dozen)
Josie & The Pussy Cats (Few Copies)
Pebbles and Bamm Bamm (Few copies)
Johnny Quest (1 of the last 2)
Wacky Races (Few)
Top Cat (Few)
Tales From the Crypt 1-6 (Few or last one)

They also had a bunch of everwood, war at home, hot wheels, and a few lois and clark, adventures of superman.

For the poster in Thomasville, GA, I'm from the Tallahasse location, so I would check with your store or if your desperate make the drive down to Florida.

No site of $10 sets. The area was totally filled so there doesn't like there would be any room for Looney Tunes, Roots, or the Superbowl Set. I'll keep looking for those.

I bought Tales from the Crypt 1-6 to trade with anyone on the board. I have no interest in the series but I'm sure someone here might. And I'd rather have someone here have them then a hoarder or ebayer. I'll post it in the exchange thread.

Just a few ?s (sorry if they have been answered already):

Are there any (complete) lists of the available/found $6/$3/$10 sets anywhere in these threads or can anyone provide one? Particularly interested in finding out about all the HB sets. Thanks!
Also, I've seen mentioned the Popeye Vol.1 set came with a comic. How was this packaged? I can't tell if the one I got has one or not and would like to find out.

Why is there so much fighting going on on a Big Lots DVD thread?

The Big Lots DVD bargain thread merged with the Big Lots bitchers, whiners and complainers thread. LOL

My local BL here in Thomasville, GA had put out some of the $3 sets today. I spoke with one of the clerks and he was nice enough to bring out a box from the back to let me look through. He said that they brought out more as they had room on the store's single 4-sided display. During the sale of the $6 boxsets they had set up a small additional dump bin but the regional manager came in and saw it and didn't like it so they moved some of the $6 stock to the back. I guess I'll just find time to go by every day as there was still more in the stockroom that hadn't been brought out. I did manage to pick up :

Agatha Christie Collection $3
Dallas S1&2 $6, S3 $6 from the last sale, blind buy for me as I had never watched the show, so please don't tell me who shot J.R, or that it was a frickin' dream - Thanks.
Everwood S1 $3 I had watched a few episodes of this when it aired and thought it was a pretty good show.
The Flintsones - S1, S2, S3, $3 each 0 Season 3 had been opened but was the only copy of it.
Jacques Cousteau River Explorations $3
Murphy Brown S1 $3
The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop - The Complete Series $3
Tales From The Crypt S3, S4, S5 $3 each - There was only one extra copy of one of these
Tracey Takes On S1 $3

Also spotted these but wanted to do some research to see if I wanted any of them:
Superman TAS S1
Superman S1, S5&6
Batman TAS - The Legend Begins & Tales Of The Dark Knight
Birdman & The Galaxy Trio The Complete Series
The War At Home
Mission Hill
Popeye Vol 1 1933- 38
Top Cat
Superfriends $6
Knots Landing $6

Thanks for the heads up fsujosh. I would definitely grab the Johnny Quest and the Tales From The Crypt seasons I didn't manage to get today. The last time I drove to Tallahassee was sort of a bust as I managed to only find one of the $6 sets I wanted. It's really only worthwhile if I can manage to pick up at least a few titles on the trip. The last time I spoke to a clerk at the Tallahassee store he suggested that they were understaffed and it was sometimes the best they could do to get stuff out and on display a day or so ahead of an advertised sale. I'll wait and see what my store has on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Post what you find later this week. Thanks.

Yup, same thing here, although I only had one competitor upon opening of the store, as I described in a previous post. It was nice though because we got to look at the sets just before they were put on the shelf...even got to go through some of the shipping cartons. I got a couple of my sets right out of the box, before they even hit the shelf.

Went back after work today to see if anything new had filtered out from the stockroom. Answer: apparently not. There were some leftovers from yesterday, but a lot of the good stuff was gone.

Saw 8-10 copies of Popeye Volume 1 still there, bunch of those Hot Wheels things, whatever they are, Larry King, a few Lois and Clark seasons, Tom and Jerry two-fers, three Cousteau boxes, etc.

They were completely cleaned out of Tom and Jerry three-packs, all the Flintstones except for 3-4 copies of season 2 (I got five out of six seasons at opening yesterday), and only one copy of season 5 of Tales from the Crypt remained. (Saw several copies of at least three or four of the seasons yesterday).

I was becoming very discouraged that I could not find any 10$ sets at my Big Lots here in Lorain Ohio. I went in there though this past friday and located them all on an endcap up top of all places and most were hidden behind the sign stating the price. These things were very hidden. Upon approaching I found it was stocked with everything.

12-15 Roots sets 10$ kind
2 Looney tunes vol. 6 marked at 3$ each
1 looney tunes box set 1-5
2 kubrick collections
and 2 America's game superbowl collections

Then I went to the Big Lots in Elyria Ohio thinking they might be on an endcap and sure enough THEY WERE. They were hidden away in a different section of the store. SO they are out there people, you just have to search around.

Any other word on the HBO sets? Anyone else spot them? Deadwood and Trueblood?

How many Mission Hills did you have at your location? I would love to score one, but I don't think I'm up for 50 minute drive. I drove to Thomasville GA last Friday and it was a bust as well. Luckily I scooped up 15 sets today. The only thing that bothers is me is that 2 employees told me to come back Weds because that's when they get their shipments. Of course I go in today not expecting anything and they're there.

hiding prime titles somewhere else in the store is actually a good idea, the employees wont find them and return them to the dvd section until a later time which will hopefully give someone that really wants them for themselves a better chance of getting them. if a reseller wants to comb through the whole store to hopefully find a couple of box sets that are hidden behind the boxes of corn flakes, let them! make them work for the little bit of money they are gonna make. scatter them all over the store, make them go on a scavenger hunt.

?????

Do you really think that hiding them is going to make it easier for "the people who really want them" to find them?

Unless you're saying that someone will just stumble upon them while reaching for the Corn Flakes and say, "Hey, look! Here's some Flintstones cartoons for $3".

I guess it's possible, but I just don't see it as likely unless you put them in the toy dept. or somewhere like that. I don't know that someone buying garden rakes is that focused on Hannah-Barbera.

Just for fun, my wife & I decided to take a road trip to the largest major city near us (several times a year, we go to shop, hit thrift stores & pawn shops, eat out, & trade in some books at a huge used bookstore). We decided to stop along the 100-mile route to hit every Big Lots along the way (a total of 4 plus the 3 in the city...plus another in the next town beyond the larger city). It was actually like a treasure hunt...some stores had bunches of $3 sets, others had absolutely nothing. Not much $10 stuff..a few had some Roots collections (one had about 20 copies) & found one NFL set, too. Hardly any store had the same items or seasons in stock (except for seeing lots of Popeye, Top Cat, & Seasons 1 & 3 of Flintstones). Managed to get copies of almost everything on the list except the animated Superman 1/Batman 1 set, so it was a very successful trip.

The next day I stopped back in at the BL in our town (there are 3 others in adjoining towns in our area that weren't part of the Road Trip). Walked in, saw that the table was picked clean of the sets that were there the day before, and started to turn around & leave when I spotted some big sets sitting on top of a display farther down the aisle. Heart started pounding at the size of one of the sets. Heart almost stopped when 3 large college-age buys started walking by the display. Sweating stopped when they walked by display without a glance. Tried to walk (not run) to the area. Found the following:

Roots (already had it);
NFL Superbowl 40-disc set (already had but got for a friend);
Stanley Kubrick st (got both of them);
and the grand purchase of them all....
the huge IMAX set (only one available).

While checking out, told the cashier I was really happy to find them (she knows me by now) & mentioned that I still hadn't found one. When she asked & found it that it was the Looney Tunes set, she said that a lady had bought one about 2 hours earlier. Later on, I realized that there were the small 2-movie Looney Tunes sets on top of the display, so that might be what she was talking about. At any rate, I doubt that the big set lasted long...the design really attracts attention.

Searching for items at BL can be frustrating, but if you have access to enough of 'em, you'll eventually find a lot of good stuff.

P.S. Made a big circuit today of the 4 in our area just in case some good stuff got put out yesterday or today. All four stores were entirely picked clean except for a few season one sets of Animaniacs & Pinky. Of course, saw a few 1st wave sets (Joey, O.C., West Wing) along with a bunch of Tracy Takes On at one store. Amazing how fast the word gets around.

Haven't read all of the great resale debate comments, but would like to add one thing. The presumption that seems to be made by many is that anyone who buys multiple copies of anything is "robbing" fans who will never get the sets at a bargain price. To me, that fails to take into account gift sets, picking up an extra for a friend or relative who will gladly reimburse, etc. It also seems to assume that everyone who might want the set knows about the sales or is a frequent customer of Big Lots.

If a reseller buys three copies of a $3 set, keeps one & sells the other two for $10-$15 each to customers who are glad to get the set at a bargain price (compared to Best Buy, etc.), how are customers being 'robbed'? Unless BL had a way of limiting sales to one copy per customer...which would be hard to do if a customer comes back for repeat visits...there is no guarantee that everyone looking for the lowest price will find them at that price...just as with any items that are limited in quantity. I see it this way: Some people who have only a marginal interest in a set may pick it up "because it's cheap", whereas they wouldn't pay $10-$15. On the other hand, those who gladly pay that price & feel lucky to get it for what they see as a bargain price are probably a better indication of the true fans who really want the set. I see it as a win-win: the reseller makes a good profit for his/her time, gas, & effort, and the customer saves a lot of money. What's wrong with that?

I'm not enthused when I go to get a super bargain & it's already sold out, but I don't badmouth the people who got there before me. For all I know, they're some of the same people who offer some of these items at reduced prices on the internet where I find many bargains.

Just my two cents.

I'm curious about something...are these sets only located in the Electronics Department or are they elsewhere within the store? I'm just wondering where specifically to look when I go to these places. I only managed to find these sets in what they refer to as their Electronics Department but if there are other areas in the store to search for them, let me know. I appreciate it.

1 of the 2 nearest stores to me has the $6 & $3 sets by the groceries and the regular DVDs by Clothes which are near the Electronics section.

So, question. If it says my store gets deliveries on Wednesday, does that mean they put the new items out on Wednesday, or do they get the stuff Wednesday and put out the next day, Thursday? Thanks!

It drastically varies from store to store. They don't appear to have policies on this. Also, the trucks don't always come on the day they're scheduled.

I think there were multiple copies. After some research it's a title I'll be buying for myself. I'll grab an extra one for you. I make it to Tallahasse once or twice a month so we could work out a swap. I'll check out your post in the exchange thread.

That's a hell of a haul Keith and let me know if you come across other HB sets as well. I have a listing of what I'm looking for on a previous page or two.Ha, no, I'm not that lucky. That was just a refresher list of titles I've seen in the thread to help the one person asking and others to help create their own want list...I should have worded it differently, my fault..

I noticed a warning printed on the cartoon boxes I purchased yesterday. I purchased Popeye and the Academy Award Cartoon dvds and on the back of each it states "Intended For Adult Collectors. May not be Appropriate for Children." Has anyone else notice this? What is appropriate, G-Force the movie?
Well, things have changed since 1930.

I hope one of you DVDTalkers was in the Turfland Big Lots in Lexington, KY about 45 minutes ago. Let me start at the beginning...

Its 8:15 PM and think that I need a new grill brush (I know, any kind of excuse) so I decided to run up to Big Lots and see if there is any new DVDs they have put out since 10 AM this morning when I was last there. When I walk in there is a guy in the checkout line holding the Looney Toons Box Set (I assume that what it was because it was huge and had Looney Toons characters all over it.) I debated on going over to ask where he found it or just head for the DVD shelf. I took the latter. Got to the shelf and ....nothing. Well, it looked like more stuff than was there earlier, but I think it was just messier.

So I hope that it was one of you who was buying the box set and not some guy who is headed home to list it on eBay right now. I'm glad he didn't have more than one in his hands or I might be on my way to jail right now.

I asked the manager about the set when I checked out with my $2 grill brush. She didn't seem to care about my question and looked at me kinda like my wife looks at me when I talk about DVDs. Anyway, now I just have to wonder how many sets they had, and what other sets they had. What if I had decided I need a grill brush at 8:05 PM instead of 8:15...

No, wasn't me. I'm a scrawny white dude with shaggy hair though for future reference. There's pics on my MySpace if you have one of those.

If it makes you feel any better, even though I wasn't going to stop there today, I had to be in that vicinity around 1:00 for lunch. So, of course, I stopped. I didn't see it anywhere or anything new for that matter but the vultures were buzzing around the DVDs.

My last planned Lexington check will be tomorrow evening and possibly Wednesday morning... Your post got me thinking a little though. Wonder if he found it somewhere else in the store other than the usual DVD spots... Grrrr.

Wasn't just you and I that missed it though, I was going to grab it for someone here since I'm not really interested in it and have way too much to spin at this point.

I went to all 4 of my local stores today. I had gone to a couple here and there over the weekend and there was nothing new. On Sunday, I had become a little worried because pretty much everything was cleaned out in the stores that had a decent selection. That's when the ad went into effect here and I figured the cat was out of the bag, so I'd probably never find a thing again. Still, I thought that I should have time Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week to go looking, so I decided to go on those days and see what was around. I'm glad I did, too. Although most of the stores didn't seem to have anything new, one did. I picked up:

$6

Animaniacs 1 (Yay! One of the ones I really wanted)
Pinky & the Brain 1, 2 (2 has been around, but I decided that I wasn't going to bother if I couldn't find 1 since I only "kind of" wanted it, then there was 1 today, so I was contractually obligated with myself to get both)
The Best of the New Scooby-Doo Movies
Thundercats Season 2 Vol. 2 (Yay! Another one that I really wanted)

And then there were two Thundercats sets that were only double-disc and were apparently smaller units of the "volume" sets. One was Season 1, Volume One #1, and the other was Season 1, Volume 2 #3. I felt a little weird paying the same price for two-disc sets as I did for the 6-disc set, but I got them anyway. I didn't have any Thundercats before today and it's one of the things that I really want from this sale. I noticed some seem to have found entire first season volumes unless I've misread or they've mistyped. I figured I'd get them and keep them packaged for a while, so if I come across a full volume set in which they are included, I'll just take them back.

Still REALLY hoping to come across a Veronica Mars Season 2. I'd love to come across more Animaniacs and Thundercats, too, and 6 and 7 of Tales from the Crypt would be good, too, to finish the collection. Any more of the old Scooby shows would be nice, too, I guess. Crud, just when I thought I only had a few things left, I keep thinking of more.

As for new things that I wasn't interested in, the only things that stuck out to me were a Looney Tunes set that I hadn't seen, Looney Tunes Spotlight Collection 2, and a set of 5 of the fairly recent Scooby-Doo movies.

Does anyone have any idea of when the next Big Lots ad will drop? It looks like some stores are putting out their stock when the ads come out on the day insiders receive the e-mail of the ad. The first ad had the $6 sets, this last one had $3 sets. Could the next ad possibly have $10 sets?

I'll be waiting until I've actually watched both 1 and 2, not sure what year that will be at the moment. By then BL may have 3 and 4 for $3 each or I'm willing to bet I'll be able to get a good deal on them, even better than the current DD sale.

I have searched the STL area for the last 3 weeks or so and have not seen a $10 set anywhere. I've even asked many a Big Lots employee and the closest I've heard of a big set was the Powerpuff Girls set. It also seems that when the STL stores do get in $3 sets there are nowhere near enough to go around.
Most employees at the stores don't seem to give a rats ass about helping anyone. They are probably inindated on a daily basis with questions about box sets.

I keep debating on when I should check the Danvers store. I'm hoping that stuff that hasn't made an appearance will eventually show up. I've almost convinced myself that I should go in on Wednesday afternoon and ask to look at the stuff in the back using the sales tax increase as an excuse, but then I realized we're talking about saving $.04 per $3 set. That's not exactly gonna break the bank.

I checked the store over pretty good tonight. If it was in another area, I would expect it to be on an endcap or display. I didn't see anything. I asked the lady and at the checkout if there were any DVDs elsewhere in the store. She mumbled something that indicated that there wasn't.

The thing that I worried about more than another location in the store is that he is an insider and someone got it out of the back for him. The shelves are pretty full there and they could have a bunch of stuff stashed in the back. Not sure. I'm probably just paranoid.

I'll probably check back tomorrow and Wednesday and then quit for a while, unless I need another grill brush or something like that...

I tried a store in Denton, TX tonight. Was happy to find quite a few Popeye sets and The Assassination of Richard Nixon. Also grabbed Josie and The Pussycats complete series and the entire Wonder Woman series box for $6. I have just about no interest in this but couldn't pass it up.

Also saw some Smallville S. 7 blu-rays, Six Feet Under s.3, and a few other random things. Not the great haul I was hoping for, but decent nonetheless. I'd kill to find some Animaniacs, Looney Tunes, or Pinky and the Brain.

Stopped at the Westerville OH store on the way home and for the first time out of 10 or so visits, that actually had some stuff I was interested in. Picked up Space Ghost (only saw 1 other copy), Josie and the Pussycats (several copies left), and the last copy of Dastardly & Muttley. Also saw the Larry King Interviews, one copy of the Wiggles set, the $10 Looney Tunes 2-movie collection, and several copies of the History of Rock 'n Roll (which I had not seen there before). None of these were there on Saturday.

I have seen the $10 Roots set and the $10 Looney Tunes 2-movie set at multiple locations around here, so they are definitely getting the $10 sets. I just wish I could find one of the elusive IMAX sets.

Had Flinstones S1/2/3, Tracey Ullman, Popeye (bout 25 of them), Night Court, West Wing, Larry King, Josey, Dastardly & Muttley. Might have been some others but nothing great. I think I was the first to report it, but I've seen it at two stores now (two copies at each). Also, I've seen mentioned the Popeye Vol.1 set came with a comic. How was this packaged? I can't tell if the one I got has one or not and would like to find out.

I think the only way to tell is to open it. I had two from the same case with the sticker that said it contained the comic, neither had it. I finally opened one in another store w/o the sticker, and it had the comic, so I bought it & returned the ones w/o the comic no problem.

Big Lots is obviously the root of all evil and bent on destroying DVDTalk by having the members kill one another in foaming hatred. I suspect devious Canadian mind control in some way....

I heard that.

Telepathically, I mean.

How else do you think someone could come from another country and purchase nearly every Big Lots boxed set he was interested in? There are many wondrous things we just can't tell you about our socialized health care system. Wonderful, powerful things. You'll just have to join us . . . join us . . . join us . . .

Interesting. My BL is due for delivery on Thursday but there was a truck out back dropping off today (Monday). I surely wanted to stop the car and take a look in the truck to see if I could spy DVD boxes . . .

Ah-HAHHHHH! So that's your game now, is it, Phibes, you magnificent bastard? I'll tell you this, sir: my newly-acquired noodles are of a hollowed-out variety, which makes them ideal for launching blowdarts at pith-helmeted savages who station themselves in proximity to loading docks in hopes of tipping the scales. Hell's comin'! Pip . . . Pip . . .

Checked Carbondale and Mt. Vernon Illinois...they're dry, probably until the weekend. Also called Fairview Heights, IL, and they're out until the weekend as well.

On a separate note, I managed to get volumes 1-3 of the Flintstones and Wacky Races today. Also, in the past have purchased Animaniacs season 2 and Pinky and the Brain season 1.

I mainly looking for stuff for my kids, so if anyone sees Animaniacs season 1, any Hanna Barbara or Looney Toons, I'd be much obliged. Of course, I wouldn't turn down a $3 True Blood, but I don't see that happening. I'm planning on going again this weekend, so I can take requests for trade fodder.

I've seen that $10 Looney Tunes movie set for $13 at a couple different Wal-Marts too. Its on an end of that display thats in front of the electronics department. I keep hoping to find one ticketed lower I'm not sure what big lots was thinking pricing it at $10. At most of the stores I've checked its the only $10 set remaining.

I despise Walmart, but I'd be thrilled to pay $13 for LT 1-5.

slightly off topic, but how many of you that grabbed the 1st 2 tracey ullman seasons from big lots are grabbing that 3rd and 4th season box from dd during thier 25% sale to complete thier collections. its priced pretty good, about $13 after the 25%

From what I've read, in the new season 3/4 set the episodes are butchered beyond recognition. So, I'll likely pass...

I call BS on the Deadwood sets. Especially on the True Blood ones. Someone take a picture for proof. Gotta be a mix-up with the Everwood sets.

I went back to my local BL today and it was completely ravaged from the other day. Gotta be a lot of resellers trying to get their hands on this stuff. Somewhere out there is some chump with 50 copies of Larry King's greatest interviews. Good luck unloading those baddies.

FINALLY!

The Big Lots in the East Bay in the SF/Bay Area put titles out this weekend. I hit both the Dublin and Antioch stores, and here's what I saw:

Animaniacs S1 ($6)(dozens of copies)
Animaniacs S2 ($6)(a handful of copies)
Dukes of Hazzard S5 (dozens of copies)
Dukes of Hazzard S6 (dozens of copies)
Flintstones S2 (dozens of copies)
Flintstones S3 (less than 10 copies)
Flintstones S4 (less than 10 copies)
Flintstones S5 (all minus shrinkwrap, a handful of copies)
Josie and the Pussycats (less than 10 copies)
Lois and Clark S1 (less than 10 copies
Lois and Clark S2 (less than 10 copies)
Night Court S1 (dozens of copies)
Perils of Penelope Pitstop (a handful of copies)
Pinky and the Brain S2 (dozens of copies)
Popeye 1933-38 (dozens of copies...mine had the comic)
Scooby-Doo Movies 3-Pack (less than 10 copies)
The New Scooby-Doo Movies Collection (less than 10 copies)
Superman Serials (a handful of copies)
Tales from the Crypt S2 (less than 10 copies)
Tales from the Crypt S3 (less than 10 copies)
Tales from the Crypt S4 (less than 10 copies)
Top Cat (a handful of copies)
Wacky Races (less than 10 copies)
The War at Home S1 (dozens of copies)

(unfortunately, none of the $10 sets yet.)

That's a hell of a haul, Brian. I see the stores you went to out on the coast had some of the titles I'm looking for in the HB collections, such as penelope Pitstop, Josie, Popeye and stuff. Hoping they will show up here in Illinois.

I hit 5 stores in the New Orleans area tonight and the only notable thing I found (and bought) was Super Friends Vol. 2, which was $6 for some reason instead of $3.
Some stores had a shitload of DVD's, just not much in the way of box sets. Only the usual shit nobody wants like Joey, West Wing, Dukes of Hazard, etc.

Those of you with a Half Price Books nearby, can likely pick up the Looney Tunes 2movie set there, new for $7.98. With last week's addl. 50% coupon, it cost me $4.

They also carry some of the same sets seen at Big Lots in quantity (i.e. Dukes seasons, complete Wonder Woman, some of the Hanna Barbera); unfortunately, it's all much higher priced however.

Pippity doo dah!

Phibes, Jr. is preparing some parking lot burritos that I'm aging on the hot Texas driveway. When properly launched towards the Canadian border they would well counter your pool noodles.

Can your telepathy predict when the rain of doom is coming?

Soon you'll be alone, dressed in a green smoking jacket, eating beans and franks, and talking to yourself in that feces stained Canadian wasteland. You, sir, will soon be only legend, as well as your socialized health care system.

Nah, nee, nah, nee, boo, boo, as the savages say.

Pip . . . Pip . . .

I called first thing yesterday morning to ask if they had put anything new out, and she said they just put out some $3 sets. I got ready really quickly and drove over since I had the day off from work, and sure enough they had a bunch of stuff, freshly put out on the shelf. :D

My favorite find was the "Warner Brothers Home Entertainment Academy Awards Animation Collection - 15 Winners, 26 Nominees" 3-disc set!

Well just got back from my nearest location and noticed something odd. A group of like 8 people waiting for the store to open. Didnt notice this when i waited for the store to open on saturday and Sunday.

Found out Tuesdays are the starting point of there ads. Which I found odd because they brought out all the $3 sets on Sunday. Than when i went Monday I reported all the sets were gone. Turns out they werent. They just moved them back into the back and brought them back out for today. No new sets from what i saw Sunday...so I just picked up trade fodder.

Twas able to return something I bought at another BL at my local one. They just scan it in their computer and it should bring the transaction up.

My BL's ad always come in the paper on Tuesdays. I tried looking there twice yesterday (Monday), but I feel silly going again today (tues) as the staff is certainly starting to know who I am.

One guy even asked if I was making returns as he was gathering shopping carts in front of the store. I've been doing a lot of returns lately when I buy stuff in the heat of battle only to discover I have the box set the movie came from or have the season already.

I just feel bad for the poor sucker who overpays for it and sees how badly scratched the discs are.

I originally bought "Roots" by itself because I was sure I'd never find the $10 set. When I did, I had already opened "Roots," but I looked through the Complete Collection and the only discs with what I would call "bad" scratches were from "Roots." So I switched out the scratched discs with my other set, and put the discs on a DVD spindle so they're not in the set to get scratched anymore. Then I returned "Roots," as thankfully when I bought it, the woman dropped it on the ground and told me if there were any scratched discs I could return it.

Yes its the 2 movie set. Its kind of rediculous them calling it the movie collection when on the back it says its just the first and 3rd movies. That implies theres atleast a 2nd movie they left out.

This has gotten overshadowed by all the good deals on sets. As far as individual movie titles, this has been one of, if not the best, find out there in my opinion. I've only found one copy in my visit to dozens of stores which I picked up as a gift for someone else.

You guys...wow. It's rather comforting to know that there are others...that I'm not the only psycho out there. So refreshing.

I discovered this site about a month ago, but aquired the BL addiction much earlier. I've been following closely, especially news of the $10, but no luck at my store.

Until yesterday.

You see, I'm on vacation for 2 weeks(beginning yesterday), so to kick things off, my girl and I planned a trip to St. Louis to see some Cardinals/Dodgers action. So I figured I'd use this event as an opportunity to treasure hunt. All weekend--I'm doing intel--I'm printing out maps--I'm on a mission.

The plan was to visit my store at opening, then move on to the other 4 as we make our way to the stadium. We walk in...Jackpot!!! All the $10 sets were out(although they appeared to be intentionally obscured by a display of High School Musical cereal). All this hype...I didn't know what to do! hahaha. Eventually, I came to my senses and got what I wanted. The euphoria still fills my brain.

We ended up visiting the other stores as well. Nothing. So...good thing. Plus, as a bonus, Cards win!!

I've yet to notice anyone speak of the Cape Girardeau Big Lots. This is a notice to anyone who frequents that store and this site to contact me....maybe we can join forces.

Hit MWC, OK again last night, nothing new - plenty of shelf space, though, if they get another shipment. I pretty much gave up the daily visits - between following this thread and store visits, it was like a second job. I have a feeling they might get some $10 sets tomorrow. Based on previous postings, we seem to be 1-2 weeks behind everyone else and the $10 sets have never shown up here. Of course, about half the stuff never shows up at all. Good luck to all.

I don't know how they divvy it up regionally, but let's hope there's something to that idea about different parts of the country being behind others. Tuesday is the shipment day for most stores here in Houston, and they generally don't put it out until the next day, so only time will tell. I haven't heard of anyone in the South finding any of the $10 sets.

I know the feeling. I'm thinking everything is about tapped out here, but I found most of what I was looking for. What stuck in my craw is knowing that I arrived at some stores too late. Missed them by that much! :(

What I'm wondering about is if things will go back to the way it was, or is this going to become "the new normal." Warner's made a big product dump. I wonder if another studio is preparing to do the same. Maybe Paramount/CBS is prepping to remainer their TV boxsets. Since Fox shut down its Classics division, maybe we'll see that stuff start showing up.

I heard a story on NPR this morning talking about how the collapse of the DVD market is putting the studios in a bind, with some on the verge of bankruptcy. And with the existence of Hulu and other online delivery methods, people may just get out of the habit of buying pressed media altogether.

This is where I'm at as well. I've probably used at least a tank of gas looking for the last few sets I want. I think at this point I would be better served by buying them used on Amazon. Otherwise any $3 sets I pick up are actually going to cost a lot more.

I've bought more DVDs in the past few months than ever before. Now that prices are coming down, I'm stocking up. As far as online delivery vs. pressed media, there's just something about holding the disc in your hand that is better, as far as I'm concerned. Not to mention all the extras, bonus features, and such.

Stupid second guessing myself. I spent the day putting up gutters at my grandmother's house and was tempted to stop at the Danvers, MA, store before I went over. I decided it would be a wasted trip. Then coming back around 1, I also decide stopping would be a wasted trip. So around 4 I say screw and go over anyway. And guess what? They had a bunch of new stuff.

They had a lot a $6 sets I hadn't seen there before:
ER
Dallas
Knots Landing
Friends
the Drew Carey Show
the Jamie Foxx Show
Roots
Blade
Wonder Woman (seasons 2 & 3)
Super Friends vol 2
Smallville season 4
Smallville season 7 (blu-ray)
football DVDs (I think it was Broncos maybe?)

For new $3 sets they had:
Everwood
Flintstones Seasons 2, 4, 6 (all unsealed, plenty of 2, two copies of 4 & 6)
Adventures of Superman seasons 2, 3/4, 5/6 (one copy each)
The Warner Bros Academy Awards set (2 copies)
Superman Theatrical Serials collection (3 copies)

I bought Blade, Super Friends, Flintstones 4 & 6, Adventures of Superman 2, 3/4, 5/6, the Academy Awards collection and the Superman Theatrical Serials collection (for trade). I can't help but wonder what I missed by not going earlier. I have a feeling I probably missed Adventures of Superman season 1, Flintstones season 5 and the Wonder Woman collection. However, who knows what they might have in the back.

3 Daytona locations (two of the stores didn't get any 3 dollar titles, 1 store did, a ton of lois and clark. But few of anything else)
Cocoa Fl ( Some Hanna barbera stuff, and the American girls stuff)

So out of all these stores, not much TFTC.

I went today at lunch and seemed hopeful, against my better judgment, since I saw the truck unloading yesterday. Yet there was nothing. My ears did stand up when I looked over and the area looked different, but they had just moved two of the "Fox" four sided displays to a location further on. I though they might've put in a table full of $10 box sets, yet it was just a false hope. Same old same old.

I wonder if there's a "$10 box set" ad coming out one day? Remember these $3 box sets were showing up far before the actual advertised sale.

I'm becoming a fixture at BL. Maybe if I disguise myself as a four sided cardboard display I can get a jump on the Canadians, the hoarders, and the reselling looters? ;)

BTW, I hit three BLs in Central Texas over the weekend and none of them had the $10 box sets (someone asked earlier). Could be because they're sold out or that our area had not gotten them yet though.

I haven't seen any mention of $9 sets, but I found a shelf full of these today (Fairview Heights, IL).

They were all those 50 movie packs:

Family Fun 50 Movie Pack
Musicals Classics 50 Movie Pack
Suspense Classics 50 Movie Pack
Crime Classics 50 Movie Pack
Historic Classics 50 Movie Pack
Action Classics 50 Movie Pack
Chilling Classics 50 Movie Pack

...there may have been a couple more. There was one that was 80/90 movies that was something like Screen (or Hollywood) Legends. I didn't buy any, but thought someone may be interested in these.

Good thing to hear your calling worked... I called today to all 3 stores by where I work.. 1 said "yes, we still have tons... we put them out on Sunday and still have lots left".... of course referring to the $3 Hanna Barbara Season Sets.. When I got there... NOTHING!!!!!!!! I asked and was told that they must have misunderstood and thought I wanted ANY animation for $3.... and that they had more in the back so come back Thursday... Yeah Right.... If I didn't have so much good with other stores, I might begin to boycott cause of crap employees.....

For those here that are looking for:

Tex Avery's Complete Droopy Theatrical Shorts
Hong Kong Phooey Complete
George of the Jungle Complete (1967)
Godzilla titles from Classic Media (I've seen 3 of the 7 from the box)

These are all found at a store called Five Below if you live on the East Coast:

http://www.fivebelow.com/storelocator

All discs are $5. each.

none in Michigan... Argh!

Early on the store on San Jose in Jax had some of the Hanna Barbera sets, Nip Tuck Blu-Ray, etc but nothing I was interested in. I've never seen any looney tunes sets, $10 sets or much of anything else decent at the other stores I've been to. Just the usual junk everyone else is seeing. I got tired of looking.....

All of the SuperFriends sets I've come across have been $6, too.
That is correct. SuperFriends sets are part of the $6 sets sale from a couple of weeks ago.

This is a good thought. I think the big question is whether or not the stores will ever get enough of these at once to justify advertising them as a special sale.

If they get, say, 4-5 per store and advertise the sale hoping to bring in big crowds, look out...it could be worse than Black Friday stampedes.

I would love to join forces with you.
If I could get some love on a Looney Tunes and a Super Bowl box set!!!:)
I live in St. Charles, MO and I think I've been to every big lots in the area except for the Kingshighway location.

There were no new DVDs on my local stores truck from yesterday. Zilch. And they condensed all the other $3 titles in with what was left of the old boxsets, so it's a giant mess. The assistant manager told me they've gotten several of those LT boxes in but one guy shows up every morning and has bought all of them thus far (something like 10 or 12). She herself was waiting for the Thundercats boxes, but they never got them at that store.

Oh well.

Nice. I was there yesterday afternoon and did not see most of that stuff, so it was fresh this morning. I went to Nashua, NH and it was picked over. 1 popeye left, some flinstones, tom and jerry two packs and some old $6 sets. There is either stuff still coming in or it is all hidden out back. According to a previous post the truck should come through this part of New England on Wednesday.

yeah, I've pretty much decided to give up the hunt and resign myself that I'm not going to find a Looney Tunes set. If it shows up by chance at the BL 200 yards from where I work, ok. I made a round trip from Deland-Orange City-Sanford-Longwood-Casselberry-Orlando (Edgewater Dr)-Apopka-Eustis. I'd be interested in that! When I stumbled on the Tales from the Crypt boxsets, I was bummed I didn't have anyone to buy/trade extras for. That said, (and this rant is not in direct reference to drewz's posts), shouldn't it be a rule here that if you don't have your location listed in your profile box (or all you have is the name of your state), it should be MANDATORY that you post where in the heck you're shopping (i.e., city and state, if not individual locations by street name in places where there are multiple BigLots stores)??? Honestly, it drives me crazy to see people say, "I picked up the following today...," or "Man, I really scored! I got...." without identifying where they were! So many of the main posters in these BL threads are SO good to post as to what they saw/bought by location, it really streamlines things for the rest of us.

We're here to SHARE INFO folks, and it's a major pain in the heinie to see every third post quoting someone else's post only to ask "Where in California?," or "What NYC location?," etc. Take half a second and post where you got those great finds... saves the rest of us time and headaches; and it means we'll have more room in the thread for posts of pertinent info!

Stepping off the soapbox now... ;)

From reading this forum for months, it appears to me that limited stuff (Woody Allen Boxes, Looney Toons Boxes, etc) is most likely to end up in the eastern part of the Midwest (Ohio for one, which I BELIEVE is BL headquarters??) & the northern east coast.
