I am planning on going for New Years this year and I am wondering what to expect. Anyone got any stories to tell? Hints, tips etc?

i haven't been, but i know people who have. they close down the strip. you can't get into a casino unless you are staying there. they usually give you a wristband and you have to show that and your room key to get into casino. you pretty much can't get a table to gamble because it's packed. shit costs more than it normally would. have i left anything out?

being outside on the strip is like being at the biggest concert you've ever been to

asses to elbows, walls of people

don't waste your time, though it would probably be cool if you had a room with a strip view to watch the fireworks

Guess I'll have to stay in front outside of the hotel. I am staying at the Flamingo. I am also wondering what it is like the day after. Anyone?

everyone gets out of dodge the next day

the strip turns into one giant clean-up session

Now I know never to do Vegas at new years. Just as well - I'm not a big NYE fan.

for someone who always complains about useless and unhelpful replies to their threads, you sure offer up your own worthless ones quite often

What can I say, it's contagious.

And please point out where I have complained about useless and unhelpful posts as opposed to posts meant to denigrate the original poster. -Big- difference.

NYE is a complete rip-off in Las Vegas. The rooms are 3-4x the normal price, table limits are higher, and it is completely packed. I looked into it a few years ago, but the cost was enough for a week long vacation.

Crowded as hell and quite chilly, but I thought it was quite fun as fireworks are shot off from many of the casinos' rooftops. I'd consider going again if I can get a comp'd room since I wouldn't pay 3x normal rate, but I'm a big cheapskate. It certainly beats sitting at home watching Ryan Seacrest count down the new year.

I was there last year for new years with cousins of mine. We had a blast! So much excitement, so much fun. The only thing I will agree with everyone posting so far is yeah, there right. Extremely crowded. Just go like 5 days after maybe January 5th? It's like dead then compared to new years haha.

Those two factors do not go together. Comp'd during a super popular time is next to impossible unless you are a big fish, famous, or both.
