The Wolf Man (1941): 2-disc SE on 9/15/09

Specs from DVD Times:
Universal Studios Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of The Wolf Man (1941) Special Edition on 15th September 2009 priced at $26.98 SRP. The 1941 film by director George Waggner makes another appearance on DVD in the run-up to the new 2009 film starring Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving amongst others.

Previously released as part of their ‘Monsters collection’, this new 2-Disc Special Edition offers all the content of the previous release on Disc 1 (with added Spanish subtitles, and the loss of Production Notes and Cast & Crew Biographies). Disc 2 offers the Universal Horror documentary found on numerous releases from Universal (the 2-Disc SEs of the classic horrors Frankenstein, Dracula & The Mummy) and the Jack Pierce featurette that was on the recent SE of The Mummy (1932). The two other featurettes on the bonus disc appear to be new, but we could be wrong…

Disc 1: Main Feature

* Full Frame
* English DD2.0 Mono
* English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles
* Monsters by Moonlight
* The Wolf Man Archives
* Trailer Gallery
* Feature Commentary with Film Historian Tom Weaver

Disc 2: Extra Features

* The Wolf Man: From Ancient Curse to Modern Myth
* Pure in Heart: The Life and Legacy of Lon Chaney Jr.
* He Who Made Monsters: The Life and Art of Jack Pierce
* Universal Horror (documentary narrated by Kenneth Branagh)

Likewise. I knew this would be coming out eventually, since the other three got the "Legacy Series" treatment, and there was a remake coming out...

Pure in Heart: The Life and Legacy of Lon Chaney Jr.
The Wolf Man: From Ancient Curse to Modern Myth

These are the only new features in this 2-Disc set I will have to wait and see a review on those two and (picture and sound) before I put-down my cold-hard cash!

Already have all the Universal Monster Legacy Collections. So I'll be passing on this. I would really like to see the Legacy Collections redone with some new special features and whatnot.

Me too. Although I wasn't very happy with The Mummy release.
I hope The Wolfman will be a better quality release.
Will The Wolfman be remastered?

I'm sure there are some unreleased Universal horror films that we could get for October. I'm not interested in double dipping for this SE.

Nothing here to really warrant a double-dip ...

If it's not a remastered movie I won't be getting this on release day.
I'll wait for a price drop.

I've seen that rumor about the four legs in a few places but no one has confirmed it. I doubt that its the case, as the website still has the baker make up jobs up.

Re: The Wolf Man (1941): 2-disc SE on 9/15/09

yes, the new movie has been pushed back to Feb, and after someone speculated about CGI this rumor of a 4 legged wolfman has popped up, but no one has confirmed it. I had an initial shock at the idea myself, but soon realized it was unfounded. The website for the movie has not changed, and still has all the pictures of Rick Bakers wolfman. I would think that he and Del Toro would quickly cry foul as they have been behind the movie since day one.

I doubt that this will move the dvd release of this set.

I knew that, I just meant there's already a thread for the Wolf Man movie in Movie Talk.

Looking forward to adding this to Frankenstein, The Mummy, and Dracula. Any word if they are going to continue these releases for other Universal Monsters like The Creature From The Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man, Bride Of Frankenstein, etc.

Word this morning that the Universal has posponed its release of The Wolf Man - Special Edition. It will be re-announced soon with a first-quarter 2010 release likely.

At least Phantasm II is still coming out next month...

I'm sure there won't be. Universal has yet to release any of their Legacy Series releases on Blu.

That's what I'm waiting for. After buying the old Legacy sets, I'm not buying any more re-issues until they start hitting Blu.

Myself included.

It's a shame its being pushed back. I love watching these old movies the week before Halloween. It reminds me of when I was a kid and how TV in Chicago used to show this kind of stuff before the holidays.
