Sorry, I don't now how to make it look pretty, although I suspect someone reading this thread does and they can post a more suitable chart.

Anyways, looks like Bruno should have a fairly good weekend considering the subject matter and limited audience appeal. TF2 will definitely fall short of the $400m mark, but it'll still be the year's top earner, no question.

Can't count out HP to get close to challenge TF2's box office but I doubt it'll beat it.

It might come close but, seeing as how the average HP flick makes about $282m, I'd say it's doubtful it'll even cross the $300m mark.

The Hangover is about to pass Saving Private Ryan and become the 5th-highest grossing rated R movie of all time.

I think HP has a chance. Like the Dark Knight last year, it has the benefit of being last "big summer blockbuster" to be released, so it won't face much competition in the weeks ahead.

Congrats to Bruno. A $35-$40 million opening for a gay-themed R-rated comedy on less than 2800 screens is damn impressive. Should end up making at least $80 million and as much as $105 possibly. It still disgusts me it prob. wont out gross the Proposal which is the worst movie of the year I have seen.

Ouch on I love you Beth Cooper, I thought it had the potential to be funny, but most reviews have been pretty bad.

Right, but even with Pretty Woman, T2, The Firm, Fatal Attraction and Rain Man ahead of it, it will still likely end up 10th all-time.

I knew not to go see this one when all the people buying tickets for it were between 11 and 14.

Everyone who bought tickets for I Love You Beth Cooper intended to sneak into Brüno.

The Beth Cooper book is actually pretty funny, but I knew if they made it into a movie it would lose a lot of its charm unless it had a really good cast. Hayden "One facial Expression" is not who I envisioned as Beth Cooper.

Not at the theater I went to. They might have bought the tickets with the intent of getting in to see Bruno but there is no way they made it past the three different employees checking to make sure you were of age. It was nice to actually be able to watch a movie with a group of adults. However, when I went today there was a youngster that somehow managed to get in there probably because it was the first showing. Also, there was the old enough to watch but not old enough to not text during the movie group. I had to actually get up and movie from behind them when they wouldn't put their phones away once the movie had started.

The point is, they all wanted to sneak into Brüno.

No such luck at my theatre, where I had an armed off-duty police officer checking IDs and tickets at the auditorium entrance (if anyone still managed to get by Box Office and Ticket-taker).

I doubt the kids I saw buying tickets had Bruno on their mind but even if they did it wasn't going to happen. At least not on opening night.

I liked the premise of I Love You Beth Cooper, but after watching the trailer, I was appalled. Another comedy with a raccoon? really?

The last two HP movies had domestic grosses in the $290M range so yeah, I think the audience for these movies tops out in the low $300M range, which is still incredible. The lowest grosser of the series so far was Azkaban with $250M and the highest was Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone at $318M.

I think Avatar is the only 2009 release that stands a chance of outgrossing Transforers 2.

Re: Weekend Box Office Thread (7/10-7/12) - Bruno pounds the competition

I have seen just about every movie currently playing, so I decided to go see I LOVE YOU BETH COOPER - I lasted 15 minutes. Fucking terrible - went to see My Sister's Keeper instead (only because the person I was with didn't want to see Bruno a second time - crazy).... Beth Cooper blows and luckily it seems most people know it. Chris Columbus needs to get back to what he does best...

Re: Weekend Box Office Thread (7/10-7/12) - Bruno pounds the competition

I had a free pass so I went to see Beth Cooper just for the hell of it. If I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes I would NOT have believed Chris Columbus could've made a movie THAT bad. For a guy who's done a couple Home Alones, a couple Harry Potters, Mrs. Doubtfire & hell even Adventures in Babysitting this is shameful. I actually sat through the whole thing. Now, I wish I'd done something more fun though (like have a root canal). At least I didn't pay to see it.
