15 Movies That Were Almost TV Series...

http://www.premiumhollywood.com/2009...nto-tv-series/

Pretty interesting article sprinkled with videos of movies that had TV Pilots shot. I've actually seen a few of them (Revenge of the Nerds...ugh).

Diner would have been great.

Thank God the LA Confidential Pilot never made it. Otherwise Jack Bauer would have never been born (at least with Kiefer Sutherland) If any of you are curious, it's also on the LA Confidential 2-disc DVD.

I actually saw the Popeye Doyle Pilot with Ed O'Neill when I was a kid. It aired as a 2 hour movie of the week. Don't remember much about it though.

I thought Mr. and Mrs. Smith was a weekly series, oh wait, that's just FX playing every other day.

Buckaroo Bonzai would've rocked as a series - until FOX inevitably killed it off due to great ratings. (grumble)

If Popeye Doyle had made it, I wonder if the producers of Married...With Children would have gotten to stick with their original casting choice for Al, Sam Kinison...Maybe if Kinison got the role, Roseanne would have been cast as Peggy as she was the original choice as well. Maybe Kinison would still be alive, and Roseanne would have never been on ABC.

Of course there's also the possibility of this version of Married being a bomb, the FOX network tanking, and the whole landscape of TV would be very different today.

Other movies with failed pilots:
Blazing Saddles - Black Bart (On the 30th Anniversary DVD)
Practical Magic
The Witches Of Eastwick - 1992 (ABC does have Eastwick on their fall schedule)

Mulholland Drive was originally shot as a pilot for ABC but was turned down. when this occurred Lynch got the cast together shot more footage and made it into a feature film.

I think Diner would have been great as a tv series. I remember a few years ago USA aired the pilot/tv movie for Bates Motel and it was sort of good. It dealt with the supernatural a lot.

Mr and Mrs Smith was a weekly series, starring Scott Bakula.

Indeed, and for many of us it was our introduction to Maria Bello.
