If Phillip hits the bottom 3 tomorrow then he's a good as gone. He's exactly the type the judges like to take out before they turn it over completely to the audience. The type that will be a liability to his various partners going forward.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

Dances for 7/8 (two dances per couple):
Spoiler:
First set...
  • Melissa & Ade - Disco (Doriana)
  • Kayla & Kupono - Contemporary (Mia)
  • Caitlin & Jason - Foxtrot (either Tony Meredith or Jean-Marc & France)
  • Evan & Randi - Hip Hop (Nappytabs)
  • Phillip & Jeanine - Russian Folk Dance (?)
  • Brandon & Janette - Argentine Tango (I'm pretty sure it was Jean-Marc & France)

Second set...
  • Melissa & Ade - Waltz (don't remember)
  • Kayla & Kupono - Broadway (Joey Dowling)
  • Caitlin & Jason - Lyrical Jazz (Mandy Moore)
  • Evan & Randi - Samba (Pasha & Anya)
  • Phillip & Jeanine - Jive (don't remember)
  • Brandon & Janette - Jazz (Wade Robson)

Third "jidge":
Spoiler:
Tyce

Full spoilers from someone who attended the taping:

100th Episode Spoilers (from the link in the spoiler above):
Spoiler:
Travis Wall just tweeted that he is heading to CBS to film the Emmy-winning Bench piece with Heidi Groskreutz and Wade's Ramalama group dance!

Jaimie Goodwin is also speculating to be taping the Hummingbird Wade piece with Hok Konishi!

Also performing with Katie Holmes on the special episode will be Mark Kanemura and Joshua Allen.

I've also gotten word that Ivan Koumaev and Allison Holker will be appearing on the show, most likely performing in Ramalama.

In my opinion, it's going to be SO INTERESTING to see the dancers such as Travis, Ivan, and Allison perform their pieces after three years of being on the show. Talk about a whip of nostalgia!

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

They are not letting go of Kayla and Jeanine, and Melissa and Jeanette wont be in the bottom 3, so between Caitlin and Randi I think Caitlin is going home.

They are not letting go of Brandon and Ade, the guys are a little bit of a toss up. I think Evan might be going home. They have really been hard on him the last couple weeks. I think Kupono saved himself with that contemporary, but if he lands in the bottom 3, his solos have been weak.

Great seeing Wade back! That was an awesome number!! WTF was with that stupid Russian dance. That was painful.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

My rankings for the night:

Brandon & Janette - Argentine Tango / Jazz - nailed each dance with impeccable timing and chemistry and technique.

Melissa & Ade - Disco / Waltz - almost 2 solid numbers, but not quite perfect on the Waltz.

Kayla & Kupono - Contemporary / Broadway - strong Mia Michael number, but lots of running in place with their Broadway number.

Caitlin & Jason - Foxtrot / Lyrical Jazz - though the foxtrot was a little slow but with nice lifts, the jazz lacked passion for me.

Phillip & Jeanine - Russian Folk Dance / Jive - terrible genre choice on the first number, and the jive was salvaged by Jeanine.

Evan & Randi - Hip Hop / Samba - Good hip hop, but Evan was a boat anchor on the samba.

Evan probably goes home (but only Brandon is safe) because he isn't showing much growth from week to week.

I think it's a toss-up between Caitlin and Randi (but Kayla probably ends up in the bottom 3 from a voting standpoint). The other gals are safe. This will be a tough cut for the girls because I'd rather they cut 2 guys for the final 10 at this point.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

Yeah, Brandon/Janette were awesome tonight. That last dance was amazing.

Melissa/Ade were good. I don't think they will be in the bottom 3.

Yes, the Russian folk dance was like Nigel said - too folk-y. Like a young kids' dance. Jive was OK. I think Jeanine and Philip will be in the bottom 3.

Caitlin and Jason - foxtrot was good but lyrical jazz was better. Think Jason has improved this week.

Kayla and Kupono - didn't really like either dance. THink Kupono will be gone. And to keep it simple, Kayla leaves with him.

Randi/Evan. The samba was a bit weak but Randi's dress was smoking. They probably will be in the bottom 3 for the first time.

Ok, so I'm still watching this but Tyce is really bothering me. All of his comments are coming off as very condescending. Is it just me?

Love the last dance. That was simply awesome.

I think Caitlin and Jason/Kupono are gone tomorrow. I really hope it's Kupono though. He's the only dancer remaining that I don't like.

That's what I also think. Caitlin and Evan will be going home. Evan made it entertaining week after week, but it's his time. I hope his brother makes it into the Top 20 next year.

And that Russian Dance and the Jive - very bad draws for Jeanine and Phillip but I still don't think they'll be in the Bottom 3.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

I think the judges were a little too nice on the dancers for the Russian folk dance. Sure, it wasn't the greatest choreography, but Philip and Janine didn't really sell it very well. That ridiculous grin that Philip had on the whole time really took me out of admiring the dance moves.

I think the judges are too hard on Evan.

I don't think I've ever seen the judges eviscerate choreography like they did with that Russian folk number. They didn't even show the choreographers in the audience. I guess we won't be revisiting that genre anytime soon.

Plus, it may just be my Fox affiliate, but man are the commercials way, way louder than the show itself. I always have to turn the volume down once the commercials come on.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

I think the judges take into account the dances they want to see go on the tour. Certainly Kayla and Kupono's addiction dance and the vampire dance were the judges favorites. For that reason, I dont think they will be going home. I cant think of a single dance Caitlin and Jason did that was memorable, or absolutely needs to be on tour.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

The addiction dance was really good, the others were just forgettable. This was my least favorite episode since the Top 20 began.

Usually Phillip and Jeannine do well but the Russian dance was just stupid and the other one was to far out of their zone to be enjoyable. I don't think they will be in the bottom 3 though. Of course, my record for picking the bottom three is 2 for 9...

Sad to say but I too think that it may be Evans time to go. Tough break because it seems like a lot of the other guys were getting dances close to their area and not so much for him. If he and Randi do stick around it will be strange to see them with other, taller, partners.

Speaking of tall people, Cat (who is 5'9") looked really good in that black dress with her new hairstyle, kind of a throwback to the '50s.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

I ended up missing the judge's comments for Phillip & Jeanine's second dance because there was a tornado warning in our area and Fox cut out the sound to announce it, even though there is a constant onscreen banner with the exact same information throughout the whole show.

Evan and Randi were a disappointment. I just didn't feel either of their routines last night.

Randi has gotten over her "ooooh, I'm married" attitude, hasn't she?

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

Good effort all around last night, but Jeanine and Phillip got the raw deal with that Russian Dance.

I like Jason, but he has no emotion in his face... he just seems dead.

My Bottom 3:
  • Jeanine & Phillip
  • Randi & Evan
  • Caitlin & Jason

Who I want to go home: Caitlin & Jason

Who will probably go home: Caitlin & Evan

I pretty much agree. The only reason I picked picked Kupono and Kayla in the poll instead of Randi and Evan in the poll is that I think if the judges have the option, Evan's the one they'll send home even though he's never been bottom 3 before, so I'm hoping they don't have the option, and let my wishes influence my voting.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance (S5) - "The Top 12" (7/8-9/09)

Big bottom 3 surprise tonight!

Evan got so lucky because I think he was on the way out if he and Randi were in the bottom 3.

There was no way Melissa or Ade was going home, so that left all-around dance ability vs. unique style, and versatility won out amongst the guys, while Caitlin was simply the odd woman out when Randi didn't end up in the bottom 3 either. Glad both Philip and Caitlin made the tour, though.
