I just went and removed a DVD from the player and realized that it was EXTREMELY hot, so I got a little concerned. As a matter of fact, everything in the cabinet is hot. I have a dual bookshelf system with the bridge across it (can typically be picked up anywhere) and all of the components are behind the glass side of the bookshelf - with a closed back except for the modification to fit the received in the bottom.
Anyway, I am a little concerned because it does get VERY hot when the glass door is closed. Most of the components are on ALL day long (the receiver is used for audio/video switching, the digital cable box never gets turned off, and we always forget to turn the VCR off).
Anyway, my components are:
Harman Kardon AVR-35 A/V receiver
Sony S550 DVD
Toshiba W701 VCR
General Instruments Digital Cable Box (get VERY hot)
Old Technics CD player
Old Technics tape player

I have not had any problems with the components cutting off or anything, but I am just a little concerned - when my daughter takes a DVD out of the player and says it is too hot for her to touch (of course she is only 5), I get a little concerned.

Any suggestions on what I can do to correct this problem, or is it even a problem.

Sorry to be so long winded, but any help/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
-J

A/V components tend to get pretty warm, and a 5.1 ch. digital receiver can get VERY hot, cuz decoding and amplifying 5.1 channels is hard work. You should always let your components get some circulation, especiallyif they're on all day. And ESPECIALLY when they're havin to work extra hard decoding multi-channel audio.
