I have the Sony 555ES and I cant get any DTS sound. The AC-3 works just great but when I put in Saving Private Ryan (DTS) I get no sound. It works great on AC-3. I changed cables and even tried a different DVD player, no help. Can anyone out there help me please!!

Thanks

Are you sure you are selecting the DTS track from the first menu that pops up? SPR, like most DTS discs, defaults to Dolby 2.0. You can also access the sound menu at any time by pressing the menu button.

Did you enable DTS on the DVD player. Every player I've looked at needs to have the DTS output explicitly enabled in the setup menus.(Not the disc menu but the actual player menu itself).

The 555es is your receiver right? What players have you used and are you sure they output the DTS signal (should have a DTS logo on the player)?

I have the panasonic A-110 and it is DTS ready. I not sure how to enable the DTS in the player menu. I can't find a menu at all when you turn on the player. The only thing it will do without a disc is bounce the panasonic logo all over the screen. I have tried pushing the buttons to try to get into a menu but nothing.
Thanks

The Panasonic manual should detail how to set your player up to pass DTS signal. I recall either the "action" or "display" key (pressed several times) brought out the set up menus. The set up is icon based, so the "display" menus may be a little tricky to decipher.

Try putting a DVD in the player hit the stop button and then try to access the player menus.

You should be able to turn on the DTS signal from there.

Hope that works.

It blows AC-3 out of the water. My collection will only be DTS from now on.

I'm a fairly recent convert to DTS myself. Bought a Denon 3300 a few weeks ago and so far have only 3 DTS discs--Galaxy Quest, SPR, and Demo #4. Wish I could get the other Demos. I don't plan on buying the Lethal Weapon DTS series because I heard that DTS there didn't make too much of a difference.

I have a toshiba 3108 and it does not need
to have dts activated. You simply set it to
bitstream. However most dts movies have to
have dts chosen from the menu. I admit I had
a hard time finding it on bone collector and
out of sight. Movies with only dts will usually default to it but if they have both
it is an adventure. On bone collector the menu was not clearly marked.

Thekobra,
does your sony automatically choose dts or do you have to specify. I have a lexicon and have it set to auto and it chooses dts or ac3 bitstream or analog. maybe the sony needs to have you tell it which bitstream it is seeing. if ac3 is chosen and it sees dts it will have no sound.

The 555ES is set for Auto. After I turned on the DTS in the DVD player menu it worked. I am very pleased with DTS. Thanks for all the help.
