50% off BD's at Borders 7/3 (limit of 2)

usually their 40% off list price still puts them equal or slightly above deals you can find elsewhere but might be able to possibly find something with the extra 10% off (assuming they don't jack up prices)

99.9% most will be at their SRP, meaning a Blu-ray that has an SRP of $39.99 will cost $19.98. ;)

I always check DVD Price Search from my iPhone before I buy a DVD/BD from Borders. I did the same during the time they cleaned out most of their inventory to make sure I was getting a good deal (or not).

I'm sure there is stuff to be found (multi disc sets especially) if you look hard enough

ex. 24 Season 7 - 72.99 list (per web site) - 50% = 36.50
Amazon's price shipped without tax 44.49

with tax at Borders you are still slightly less than the zon

good deal for someone with a Borders GC to burn

I am not here to justify Borders everyday pricing but this could be good for a select few items

Yeah, boxsets and hard-to-find catalog titles are the only discounts that'll be had.

I scored Director's Label 2 boxset when Borders was clearing their inventory for half off. Same goes for the complete series of Undeclared and Spaced.

Criterion's
ex. Bottle Rocket

lowest price on the web shipped with tax 25.39

This is pretty good if your Borders still carries Blu-rays. I went to 3 separate Borders yesterday and and 1 didn't sell DVDs or BDs anyomre, another had only new releases and the other one had a small amount of catalog titles they were liquidating and new releases.

does anyone know if this works for pre-orders too?

these were some decent deals i found while looking through:
dexter season 1 = $30
dexter season 2 = $30
dexter season 3 = $30 (pre-order)
dog soldiers = $9.50
How I Met Your Mother Season 4 = $26 (pre-order)
Otis = $8.50
Cast Away = $12
Girls Gone Wild = $10-11 (haha, are these even worth it??)

Thanks OP! Nice find. The Borders in Clear Lake (Houston) still has a decent BD section.

Drav3n: The fine print says it does not work on special orders or reservations. Otis has been $9.49 at Fry's on BD the last few times I have been there. Not sure if you have a Fry's near you or whether they have consistent pricing or not but just FYI.

Nope, since it is a one day in-store coupon. Not for use online.

You may want to wait until the DD sale for the Criterions. They should be under $20 if they don't raise prices on them.

I'm looking at Sin City and Chicago, two of those titles that are never on sale anywhere. 50% of list is $18 and $17.50 (plus tax). That's better than anywhere else I've seen, although only a buck or two under what the DDD sale will be.

How does Borders manage to stay afloat with these kinda pricing ? I went to the one in Cerritos, SoCal. They have one stand alone rack of BDs, about 10 titles and they want about $35 for each. What's even the point of stocking these ? I have a $25 GC to burn but these prices kill...

luckman65
07-02-09, 07:22 PM
I was considering some Criterions...and may still take a July 3rd run to a Borders...but, yeah, if DDD doesn't change their prices for the upcoming sale, the Criterions are $18 and $19 each after discount, with no tax or shipping. So...that's about $4 cheaper each then Borders would be after tax here in WA.

they stay afloat because books are their primary business
they aren't catering to informed BD bargain shoppers... they'd much rather sell at their list price

yes but that wouldn't be the list price .... that would be their "sale" price
studio MSRP for the set is 349.99
sale price comes off of list (433.99 according to Borders' website) not marked down price

viking99
07-02-09, 08:22 PM
Borders web site list prices are inflated. They're showing both Sin City and Chicago for about $5 more than the true list price as shown by both Amazon and Best Buy. I hope they don't try to screw with me.....

That said, I used the "reserve at store" option and received prompt email response that they're holding both for one day under my name. We'll see.

That's only partially correct.
Borders, uses the price they post
on the sticker as the before sale price, price.
So if their sticker is $250 I'll buy it tommorrow for
$125.

I hope you're right. The coupons specifically say "list price," so if they use their regular price instead, I'll be that much further ahead. How do you know that they'll use their posted price?

Previously when I've used a coupon the price is taken from whatever

+1 on how these guys manage to stay afloat. :hscratch:

Bourne Trilogy (BD) online price is $125. In-store, it's $120. I grabbed it at 50% off for $60 + tax.

Yes, it's cheaper at familyvideo.com w/free ship....still less at DD after 7/17 (assuming current price holds), but I had GCs to burn in case they go Ch. 11.

My local best buy, which is much closer than our Borders, agreed to price match the Borders offer. That may be a good option for others out there.

Stopped by my Borders in the morning, they were completely stocked of everything it seemed. But most of the stuff seemed like better deals can be had on-line. Picked up Bottle Rocket Criterion Blu-Ray figured $21 isn't that bad with the sale, + I had $9 left over on a GC.

It sounds like they used the "Borders list price" instead of MSRP, which is $39.95. In your case, that probably doesn't make much difference, but I find this to be a pretty sleazy business practice for Borders. Their on-line price is $40.99, which is more than MSRP. Where else in the retail world do companies do this kind of thing? I know GM dealers used to tack on a "market adjustment" for the rare new model that actually generated demand exceeding supply, but see where that got them......

That's what I assumed. The Blu-ray list price according to both DVD Empire and Amazon is $39.95. I looked up several others yesterday and found that Borders was doing the same thing. I find in unconscionable that Borders would do this.

So i went in specifically to pick up Dexter S2 for $25 since I had $5 in borders bucks and then decided to get Glory too since it was one of the $28 titles and had movie cash on it (for Pelham 123 of all things...odd combo)...I quick math in my head said both together would be $39 + tax after the extra $5 off....I knew the woman at the register so we were chatting since a friend of hers turns out to be our neighbor and the border's lady used to be the story reader on saturdays so she knew my daughter...yadda yadda yadda....

She says the total and i sign the receipt without paying much attention. I thought she said "45.xx" and thought to myself "huh...must be the tax" but continued chatting and just moved on.

Got home and looked at the receipt and it didn't seem to make sense. The total was $25.xx. And I didn't see Dexter on it anywhere. turns out she rang up Glory twice, took 50% off of the total, and then the $5 in borders bucks. I'll take it.

It was ridiculous to find any deals because the prices on the web site bore no relation to MSRP and even the in-store terminals had a third price; you had to have them unlock the case to see the price tags. Bleah. Then I had to look up the DVDAF price searches on my Pre and see if the deal was really a deal. Ended up getting:

Daredevil DC - $12.50
Dark City DC - $14.50
