My components are as follows:
1. Toshiba TZ50V61
2. Toshiba SD1200 DVD player
3. Apex Ad-600a DVD player
4. JVC RX-6500 DTS receiver
5. RCA DirecTV box
For the life of me I can't get all the components to work together. If someone could please explain the connections I should make I would be eternally grateful. Here are my questions:
1. How to I hook my DSS system to run through my receiver?
2. My recevier manual says to run DVD through it, but I've read that DVD players should be hooked up directly to the TV. How do I do it?
Please help this lost soul find the light to HT heaven. Thanks

Not familiar with your receiver, but maybe this general advice will get you started:
Please note: I just did a search for your TV. Take a look at the video hook ups I describe below, but I think this is what you're going to want to do:
Use the component video connections to hook up your SD1200 to your TV. The 1200 has a better picture than the Apex. Depending on how many free S video inputs you have left, I would suggest connecting the DSS unit (if it does s video) to the next available S video in on the TV, and then connecting the Apex to any remaining s video input or the regular RCA single yellow video input.
If your receiver does video switching, has 2 or 3 digital inputs (and no VCR or it's SVHS):
(You would only do this rather than the above as a matter of convenience or because you see no difference between S video and component on the SD 1200.)
Video:
The 2 plaers and the DSS box should all have S video out jacks. Plug all three into the receiver's s video ins. Connect receiver's S Video out to the TV's S video in. (Most likely, you'll have to buy some cables.)
Audio:
Connect digital outs from the 2 players to the corresponding ins on the receiver (most likely, digital cables not included). If your DSS has a digital out, then do the same for it. If not, then you will have to use the L,R analog audio jacks from the DSS to the corresponding jacks on the receiver. (You can use any free analog L, R ins on the receiver.)
If you don't have enough digital jacks, then just use the next available analog jacks in this order: SD 1200, DSS, Apex (I'm assuming your use of the Apex will be pretty limited).
Hope that's of some use to you.
If not, or if you have more questions, post 'em and we'll do the best we can to help.
