It looks like a possible used item which may have been traded in to DVD Planet and resealed and sold as new at the sister site. Anyone else receive anything like this?My Abbott & Costello set was very shelf-worn. All the corners were smashed in - one side looked like it was dropped down a flight of stairs. The first disc was scratched, despite being secure in the package. It's hard to tell if I go a resealed copy, but the packaging just isn't acceptable for a 'new' copy. I'll be sending it back tomorrow.

You're right, September 1 for the 240 minute version. Worse, I just found out the UK PAL version runs 285 minutes and costs about $19 plus shipping at Amazon.co.uk. And I just bought the first four season Poirot sets at Amazon there a few days ago, so the shipping charge would have been minimally extra for this DVD. What are you going to do? That's life.
thanks for the info. it appears that PBS is only showing the first 4 episodes from the 6 (according to wikipedia) but the remainder of the time doesn't give enough time for 2 episodes so I'm not sure what's going on.

Like my previous orders, I have no complaints. I only order from them during these biannual sales, I prefer to do all my shopping in-store.

What's up with the declining quality of how DD packs items for shipping?
For the past few years, I always got my orders in solid cardboard boxes...last week, my first order fore this sale arrived in a yellow bubble mailer envelope...not as good and secure IMO, but still an acceptable form of packaging....yesterday, my Mad Men S2 BD arrives in perhaps the cheapest and worst form of packaging I have ever seen! It was one of those plastic-type grey envelopes, with some crappy thin piece of clear plastic "tray" inside that had these little squares in it and a large rectangular inset area that was where the BD was supposed to sit (it had of course come out of during shipping)....luckily the case was fine, and none of the discs had even fallen off or anything, but still, this packaging just has FAIL written all over it and will definitely discourage me from ordering with them anymore....I just hope Amazon and other places don't get any ideas about using the same junk...

the concerns you mentioned with dd and dvdp packaging have been brought up since maybe a year ago in that "dvdplanet suck!" thread or whatever it is called here somewhere (yesh i am so helpful!). at the time, i think we even got some response from dd and/or dvdp that they were trying different things out, but will go back to cardboard boxes soon. guess that did not happen, as i miss the ole thick cardboard myself.
and as far as that "tray" design, ive seen it used months ago, so its not something new. but ive only seen it twice on multiple orders, and have my concerns over it as well.

Mine arrived in perfect shape. Great looking set, too. Universal did an amazing, respectful job with this one, lots of info, list of movies is in multiple places, on the disc, on each folder, on the box, in the book. Included book has tidbits on each movie and poster repro, list goes on and on... why aren't more sets like this?
After cashback this is an absolute steal for 28 movies.

I got my Battlestar Galactica Complete Blu in the mail yesterday. It was sent out the day after I ordered it. They also refunded me my $13 and change because of the price drop the day it came out. I ordered it before the price drop. I was surprised how light this set is however it wasn't damaged at all from shipping. I looked through some of the discs briefly and there was some scuffing on the outside of some of season 2 discs but no deep scratches. Kind of annoying but with that kind of packaging it's gonna happen with pretty much every set. I highly doubt it will effect playability as they are very minor small scrapes. It is however mind boggling why they packaged it this way. I guess because it is large and will draw attention at a store but they still could of done the inside differently. The discs are packaged in the little boxes in a very strange way that I've never seen before and hope to never see again.

Could be 4% PAL speedup if the the source of the UK DVDs was an NTSC master. Then again, PBS hasn't had an hour long documentary that was at least 58 minutes in 10 years. Usually, PBS DVDs that claim an hour length are about 54-55 minutes long. Commercial free BBC documentaries still hew closer to the hour length. The UK DVD version is almost certainly the complete version, without editing to create space in the 60 minute time slots for PBS promos, bumper ads and beggings for contributions.

Well, I'm also in So. California and I got my packages from my 1st 2 orders. I'm still waiting on 1 package that was a backorder in my initial order that finally got shipped on July 24th (Melrose Place season 5 Vol. 1).
My 3rd order shipped August 5th and is estimated to arrive between 8/14-8/19.
I've ordered from DD for the last 3 years or so and I've had 2 lost packages, but they have always re-shipped and I've managed to receive them eventually.
Media Mail sucks, but it's the price you pay for free shipping and no sales tax.

How difficult is the replacement process and do they refund shipping?Send them an e-mail about it and they will reply with a pre-paid label for you to print out, along with a return authorization number. Write that number (along with your order number) on the label in the given spots, then tape it to your package and drop it in the mail. Upon receipt, they refund your payment method for the damaged item and then re-bill you for the replacement. You should get an e-mail notification when your new copy ships out.

I ordered Scooby-Doo: Where Are You? Season 3. It came in a not very padded envelop. The case was ok and the discs were secure, but the second disc that is double sided has some nice sized scratches on both sides. I'm tempted to return it, but it is playing fine so far.

That's not to say they won't pull that stunt for the BSG set (they've apparently already done it for the Watchmen set). If they do, any money they'd save would be more than offset by the amount of business they'd lose due to the sh*t storm of negative publicity it would generate on this board, as well as on many other online DVD boards.
It wouldn't be pretty, and they should know that. Hopefully they're monitoring this thread (as they have for previous sales), and realize that the short-term gain isn't worth the long-term loss of business and good will that's been built up over all these years.

Same thing happened to me. Their site isn't showing the Director's Cut disc, but I find it hard to believe that it's gone out of print a few weeks after its release. Time for an email to customer service!

Has anyone started receiving any type of confirmation on BSG Blu that was backordered? Going on 3+ weeks now. That's a pretty serious lag in back orders. The above comments about them cancelling back orders has gotten me concerned.
When I called them yesterday, I wasn't as much concerned about when it was going to ship but rather IF it was going to ship. The woman on the other end wasn't to how should I say, pleased with my call. I'm betting they've received a lot regarding this box set.

Never doing business with these fuckers again. Ordered 8 DVDs a month ago. Never received the package. Finally they said they would resend them, and they would do it with expedited shipping... I received 4 of the DVDs, the other 4 were backordered. Okay, well at least when those come in they'll send them expedited too right? Nope. They send the other 3 DVDs through media mail again. Fucking morons. So the dates they said they would be here have all gone by without them arriving and they wont do shit about it. Only ordering from Amazon from now on. Deep Discount is a horrible company.

I placed my order on 8/1. The first part was charged on my credit card. I received a call on the 13 or 14 asking to verify my address (because the purchase was more than $200). I received the first part of the order on the 18th; then the other part on the 19th. Had no problems. Here's what I ordered:
Part 1
-24 Redemption
-24 S7
-Lethal Weapon 4 Movie Collection
-Flintstones Movie Franchise Collection
-Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy (blu-ray)
-Elvis 68 Comeback Special, Sp.Ed. (even without the discount, this was $13 less than Amazon)
Granted, all of them are 'catalog' titles, but the only ones that most of the time showed as OOS were the ones in Part 2.
I'll be waiting for the next sale, hopefully there'll be some Disney titles I can get. But overall, very satisfied with the process.

I ordered at virtually the same time/date as you did. I guess they're finally fulfilling the orders. I suppose if I had ordered at 12:00:01 AM @ 7/28 I may have received my set a little sooner. :)

I am still waiting for Mysterious Cities of Gold. I knew I should have just spent the extra money and got the Deluxe Edition that was and still is in stock. My original order was July 16th but that got canceled due to my credit card and my current order was placed on July 17th.

so a month after ordering with DVDPlanet I still hadn't received one item that was supposedly shipped a week later...I emailed to ask for a replacement to be sent and later that day got this email:

If I remember, they usually credit you for the 1st shipment and then recharge for the replacement shipment.

This. And if they are rushing you the replacement the new charge and credit will include the shipping cost. Ex: the item not received was $20 and had free shipping. New charge: 25.95 Credit 25.95

Here's a shocker... Not only was my BSG BD set shipped, but I called when the price went down for a few hours on the day it was released, asking for a refund of the difference -- and they just processed my refund for $13.65!!!
