Nope. Sale price. Go for it!
you get the discount whether it is in stock or not. The only time this won't apply is when it is not in stock because it is a pre-order.

I asked the same thing earlier. I did look at Bing's FAQ closer and it said that it might take a day or two for these transactions to show up on the cashback account. If not, email Bing's customer service with the pertinent info and they'll look into adding your order to the account.
It also said that DDD is supposed to send something to Bing to make it happen. I'd imagine with the big sale going on that there might be delays in doing so.
I just wish SOMETHING showed up (such as in the processing que) since I'm always paranoid that something didn't take.
Guess I'll wait till Monday and see if something shows up ;).

thanks for the tip. The money cleared out of my account instantly and every single item but one was in stock (which I find surprising, since when they were on my want list probably 5 or 6 were out of stock). The only thing I can guess is that Bing/Deep Discount are waiting to make sure no one is going to call screaming credit card fraud or something. But no.. I've been saving / calculating for months! Now give me my $40 Bing so I can go spend it at Barnes and Nobles (and then give me my percentage from there too)

I don't know why you say its blasphemy. There is probably more bad stuff stated about DDD here then any other vendor. People seem to either like or hate them with not much in between. Especially, when it comes to this particular sale.
As has been stated many many times, prices fluxuate. Personally, I'm very happy with the deals I'm getting through this sale.

i have a question that i know one of you will be able to help with please. i am looking at getting the dirty harry collection dvd ($35.89) but it says fullscreen. i can't find a collection that indicates ws other than the bluray. when i check the individual discs they indicate they are ws. what's the scoop here? is there really a fs collection and dd just doesn't have widescreen? anyone order this previously and know the answer? many thanks and happy bargain hunting!
I think it's a typo by DD. I own this collection and I don't recall ever seeing a FS version of it even in stores. Even all the individual films are WS. I believe only the documentary is FS. I think your fine ordering it.

Well I ordered yesterday, received an e-mail confirmation yesterday and today when looking at my order history, my order has been canceled. I just sent them a comment asking them what happened.
I had a very different experience early this morning. I decided to open up a Bing cashback account and link through to DD. I took a long time to settle on my order - I ended up with 26 DVDs for $220. (And that's not counting any Bing cashback, assuming it shows up.)
I got to the checkout procedure, and then - when I clicked to send the order - I got an error message in RED that said there was a problem with sending the order. I didn't get the usual confirmation screen with the order number and list of items. I figured the order had not gone through. WRONG!
Silly me - I reassembled the order and submitted it as usual - I have been a DD customer for years so I know how things should go.
A couple of hours later I got TWO confirmation e-mails. The orders are identical in price and content. They just have different order numbers. So I figured it should be easy to cancel one of them, right? Oh nooo.
I called DD's 800 number and the customer assistance person - and her supervisor - advised me that the big surge in orders has meant that everything has been processed ASAP and so it's too late to cancel my order - even though it was an obvious mistake - their mistake, IMO - and only about three hours had gone by. She said they will send me a mailing label and I should mail the duplicate items back for a refund. They had 23 out of 26 in stock. So I will have to return a really big package. Oh, and they might pack the two copies of each DVD together in one box to save on postage!
So it's a mess. Just too much trouble to track down one of my orders in the warehouse or flag them in some fashion, etc. I guess the people who work in the warehouse are automatons.
This really pisses me off. It's hard enough to find the customer service phone line on their website. Then I get no customer service.
And heaven only knows whether Bing will become a part of this saga.
Why couldn't they just cancel one of my orders like they did aspects order?

I just put up a few things on ebay that I knew were worth more than DVD Planet would give me in trade.
In years past, I would sell off several hundred $ worth of DVDs, as well as trading some in for credit, in preparation for these sales.
This year it will be a combination of store credit, ebay proceeds, and buying much less than I usually do. Last year I spent well over $700 (and then more on the Criterion sale a month later). This sale I'll be spending less than half that.

people that have a recession proof job (things like government, healthcare, education) actually do fine during economic downturns. in fact they do well since so much stuff goes on sale.
for the people in economically sensitive jobs (things like retail, restaurants, autos, construction) they get crushed in a recesssion.
these are the people who are being laid off or having their hours cut back.
also certain areas of the country (for various reasons) are getting hit harder than others economically. i live near Cincinnati Ohio and it hasn't seemed to affect the local economy here nearly as much as places like California & Michigan.

And I would like to know how some of you are getting such great prices with the B&N sale. After tax, the prices seem to be roughly the same to me, usually more expensive at B&N. I bought six BDs at DD and it was cheaper by a couple dollars, even if I had used a 10% non-member coupon....

I've been waiting for this day for months and right away I'm bummed. On my list of movies I was going to order I would check the price every week and see the prices usually change sometimes up sometimes down. Quantum of Solice in BluRay would always be between 21.37 and 25.85 with the low price just a day or so ago. Now that the sale starts they jack the prediscount price up to 26.85 (those dogs). Now after discount it is no cheaper than I've seen Amazon sale it for in the last few weeks. This shady practice reminds me of when Circuit City went out of business and the liquidaters would jack up the prices before they discounted them and the resulting charge would be more than when Circuit City ran the joint. I'll check the others on my list now but it looks like my order from Deepdiscount won't be as much as I thought. Amazon might get some of my money.

I'm still getting shortchanged on the percentage of the discount for some reason. When I apply a code to an order with a subtotal of $161.53, the total comes to $133.74, which isn't even 20% off, let alone 25%.
Item total is $144.58
S&H is $16.95
Their sale discount comes to $27.79, which works out to 17% of the total with shipping and 19% of the total without shipping. Anyone know what the hell's going on?
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I want to get the same discount as everyone else.

I know it might be pretty obvious, but do you have any preorders included? If so you are going to have to place an additional order when they're released since the codes don't apply to preorders. Other than that, I don't know why you are not getting 25% off.

I checked my 2 orders and the discount is definitely 25% and also my bing cashback is coming from the regular price, not the sale price.
My first order shipped Friday! George Carlin is on the way to me........

Make sure you don't have any pre-orders in there, and that everything in your order is classified as a DVD.
About three or so years ago, I ran into a similar situation where I wasn't getting the full discount. It turned out that one of the DVDs I had in my order was (mistakenly) labeled a CD by Deepdiscount.

Scored 'Only Angels Have Wings' for seven bucks and change.
Almost pulled the trigger at the $25 price like a year or so ago when it came out.
Awesome score.
Having that classic at that price makes the sale for me this time around, though I'm buying quite a few more things before it's over..

Amazon might get some of my money.
for god's sake...there's nothing SHADY about it!!!! Shady would be showing one price and charging you another at checkout....all they are doing is what every other online retailer does: changing prices to reflect the market...you don't have to buy it from them. Nobody, especially DD, is trying to trick you. Sometimes they are cheapest, sometimes not.
I simply don't understand the sense of entitlement people have with regards to this sale. and I sure as hell wish people would stop bitching about it!

Yes.
However, if they ever ship thats another story. I had 5 titles that were "out of stock" for 2 months. They were listed as "instock" on the website 1 week after the sale ended. I finally just canceled the order, since I was tired of waiting and CS was no help.

I don't mind a bit if some of the titles are out of stock. I ordered the ones that I really wanted to watch soon on Thursday when the sale first started. Others, while I want to own them at a good price, I don't mind waiting weeks or months for them to arrive. I'm not paying for them yet and if somehow they show up cheaper elsewhere, I can always cancel the DDD order. Win - win!!
On another topic, does anyone remember when the pre-orders change to allow the 25% off discount? I would like to order both Watchmen and Pushing Daisies when they're released next week, hopefully catching them in-stock. Would midnight Monday be the time? Eastern or Central time zone? Anybody know? Thanks.

I know it might be pretty obvious, but do you have any preorders included? If so you are going to have to place an additional order when they're released since the codes don't apply to preorders. Other than that, I don't know why you are not getting 25% off.
Make sure you don't have any pre-orders in there, and that everything in your order is classified as a DVD.

Thanks, guys. No pre-orders, but I think the answer may be that I have 3 CDs in there, which I didn't realize aren't covered (though I would have known, had I read these threads more closely).
One thing I don't like about the current DD cart format is that the discount is not displayed on each individual item. In the old days, the before-discount and after-discount prices were there to see on each item.

I've got a question regarding the upcoming Battlestar Galactica on Bluray. Right now it's around 220.00 at deepdiscount. And it is going to be released during the time frame for which this sale is occurring. I've not had a lot of experience buying such a large ticket item from them.
Do you think
a) It will be cheaper now at the 220.00?
b) Will it be cheaper after it becomes available in the next couple of week using the 25% off?
Obviously the price is going to go up a bit upon release day, but will it go up enough (or do we know) if it will go up to a point where it will be even with today's price? Does anyone have any experience with them regarding this?
Thoughts?

this is kind of weird and I thought I would let you guys know:
my first order was for $1000. Bing gave me 4% back off of the sale price
subsequently I have ordered 3 ordered with 1 or 2 DVDs at a time and Bing gave me the 4% back on the original price
I almost want to complain and see if I can get more of a return out of them on my massive order but I don't want to give them a reason to tell me I used a coupon so I don't get anything. advice ?

And thirded. You got lucky that (1) they're giving you cashback even though you used a coupon, which violates the qualifying terms at Bing, and (2) they're giving you cashback on the original price on 3 of your orders, which is more than you deserve. So you're thinking you want to call and complain that they didn't screw up on your one order and on the hundreds or thousands of other people's orders. Then they realize their mistake, and everybody's cashback gets canceled. Get some perspective.
g
07-18-09, 09:19 PM
They went in retroactively to my may orders and reversed my cashback for orders that I used the buy 1 get 1 fox dvd's with. If bing is trying to get goodwill for their search service I hope that it bites them for their jerky cashback policies.

Right now you can pre-order (with a coupon) from DVD Planet where the 'regular price' now is $248- discounted price comes to $186.
You can wait and maybe get it lower from DD if they don't raise the price, or don't raise it up to $248. I think on street day, $250 will be the most it will be at the usual e-tailers, and there's a good shot it will be less.
I only pre-ordered from Planet because I had store credit, and since their prices are on average higher, I didn't want to risk them raising it when it streets.
If $186 isn't low enough for you, I'd probably wait

OK, so I totally screwed this up. I didn't see (don't know how I missed it, sorry!) that the OP was looking for the Blu-ray version. I'll leave my text below, which I originally posted, but my info is about the DVD version of the BSG set. Sorry again for the confusion!
There's a sale at Columbia House right now, so you can get it for slightly less than $150 from them (and get 6 other DVDs for enrolling, if you don't have an account). This sale price might end on July 22 (I can't find details on that, so beware)--at which point it will go back to its regular price of about $180. So, if you pass on this DD sale at $186, and suddenly decide you have to have it, as long as CH still carries it, you can get it from them. Or you can get it from them now at a much cheaper price and get 6 other DVDs for free.

They created the censored packaging so B&Ms can display them on their shelves without upsetting shoppers who might be offended by seeing the "actual" title of the show (think Wal-Mart). But the content inside is identical to the uncensored packaging.

First, does anyone think The Godfather (Coppola Restoration) Blu-Ray collection ($37.42 after discount) is substantially better than the SD version of the same thing I got at Target for $18.99 in June (and haven't opened so I could return for a full refund)?
From reading the reviews (no direct comparisons between BR and SD) it sounds like the content is exactly the same (except newer extras are presented in HD) so while we all know that BR picture quality is better than SD, is it THAT much better than SD to justify $18 more?
Second, regarding Battlestar Galactica Complete BR which is mentioned often, I really would like to get and watch the whole series as I liked S1 which I got cheap. However, I heard there is still a movie that should be in the set, and even $220 - 25% feels a bit expensive. So my philosophy is I've now marked $165 ($220 - 25%) as my target price. If DD sells it for that on Tuesday, I might buy. If they don't, then I'll wait. Too many Big Lots TV seasons deals make me not eager to buy anything really expensive any more.

The Battlestar Galactica movie that your talking about The Plan will not be included in this set as it's not airing on TV until November, but is getting a DVD release in October prior to the airing.
Just use your own judgment whether or not your can afford the series and if you really want it.

I've never seen any B&M retailer sell something at even close to 50% off on it's street date- especially not a high msrp specialty item like the BSG set. $175 would be 50% off so $165 is really out of the realm of reality.
As far as the Godfather set- The Bd is better. Whether it will be better enough for anyone will likely come down to 2 factors-
1) The size of your display AND how close you sit to it
2) How critical you view/listen to your media
If you sit closer than 1 screen width away from your display, you will likely see a greater benefit- than if you sit farther than 2 screenwidths away, for example. Screen size matters, but the critical criteria is viewing distance.
You can have a 52" screen, but if you sit 8' away the difference between good sd and ok hd will be mitigated.
Where exactly the sweetspot is for you will be determined by how critical you watch these things.
Also, these are still relatively grainy, non flashy films, especially the first two. I think for most people, the sd sets of these films will suffice.

Not bitching - Just stating the facts that the main BluRay I've been waiting to buy in this sale goes up to the highest price they have sold it in many months the day of the sale. It does not reflect the market as your so called pro opinion because Amazon has been dropping the price on that movie on a weekly basis. Since I'm in Illinois, I have to factor tax into account when comparing the DD sale with Amazon's regular prices, but you would think that with a 25% off sale, you wouldn't have to do the math, but for many movies, including the Criterion titles, the final price works out about the same.
It should be obvious to everyone, but compare the prices before ordering. I had several titles in my Wish List and compared them with Amazon before placing my order. Some titles have huge discrepencies in prices, e.g. Wedding Singer Blu-ray is $12.99 at Amazon, but $22.23 at Deep Discount.

I just moved to Chicago a couple months ago, and didn't realize that I would pay tax for DD -- so I ended up only ordering 4 movies because the savings weren't so great once you factor in tax. 3. Once I use a code, can I use it for another order or do I need a new code? Does DVDTalk get a kickback when I use the DVDTalk code?
Thanks, folks.
1. August 2. See the title of this thread, and/or the subject line of your own post.
2. BING.com explains how to use BING.com better than any of us could. It's free, and easy to do. So are the other varieties, such as CASHBAQ.com and FATWALLET.com.
3. I seem to recall from earlier years that DVDTALK does not get a monetary reward, but does benefit in some other way. Perhaps someone from DVDTALK could answer this better.

So DD actually called my home today with an automatic message advert for the 25% off sale... wtf????
Yeah when I got home from work my brother told me we got a call about the sale. I figure it could be useful for their customers that don't know/don't really follow their sale online.

Quick Question: My memory is failing me here. I can get Grey's Anatomy Season 1 for $16.03 through this sale. Can I expect to do better for it somewhere else at another time. I keep thinking this goes to $10 occassionally, but I could be wrong. I'm not really into the used copies on ebay and such.
So to make my question quick: $16.03 for Grey's season 1: Good deal or not?
Thanks.

So are you asking if that's the best price right now? I was say yes. I've seen season 1 on sale at Best Buy for $14.99 in the past. It's entirely up to you if you want it or not. I would say go for it.
I've never seen it any cheaper than $14.99. Hell, the MSRP is $29.99.

Looks like DD pulled the Hens Tooth titles. I know some companies have requested that in the past...but Hens Tooth discs are already too expensive and the only time I might consider them is during sales. So, no sale Hens Tooth! (Boys in Company C)

OOOPS! You're right. My notes of the BSG release date were wrong and I missed the fine print on DDD's page. Let me DELETE my post so as not to confuse people. Sorry.
That would explain why there weren't a bunch of posts of other people ordering it. I thought maybe everyone else was sleeping. However, after reading on The Digital Bits about the missing content (The Plan, the 10 webisodes, and various extras from the previous sets) I think I'll pass even at $164.92 if the current price holds next week. I'll wait for the BSG Ultimate set (or maybe they'll call it "Truly Complete This Time... Really") hopefully in a year or so.

Battlestar Galatica Complete Series Blu-Ray is still $219.89 and today is release day, so I believe people should be able to order it for $164.92. That said, I just read the only review I could find about it on The Digital Bits. It's $165 for a 20 Blu-Ray ($8.25 per disc) set which is missing the Face the Enemy webisodes, several extras from the previous set and a Best Buy bonus disc, and The Plan. Plus I dislike the packaging which won't fit on my shelf. Instead of ordering it this morning (before the price jumps up) I think I've decided I'm going to wait until it's a lot cheaper (maybe $125... sure that could take a year or two) or until I can get a truly complete set for about the same price. I've got so many other TV series to watch (partly Big Lots fault) and considering the economy, spending $165 on a not-quite-complete set doesn't feel right now. Besides, by the time I got this set for $125 or the not-yet-released-set, I can start over from S1 because I will have forgotten enough (having only watched S1 in January).
Hopefully the next Battlestar Galactica Complete set will in fact be complete. Will they call it the Really Complete or the Ultimate Complete set?
I'll be very impressed if DD will be selling this set for greater than 50% off on release day ($175 is already 50% off).
I'm quite satisfied to get it for $186 from DVD Planet (but then, I had store credit to make use of- if I was paying out of pocket for it, I'd probably wait to see what DD does next Tuesday)
For me, all the extra content is just frosting I'll scrape off and not eat anyway. There is more stuff on this set than I'll ever make use of as it is.

Got two of three in-stock orders yesterday (and picked up today). Ordering more but smaller orders seems to be paying off. So glad they have multiple coupon codes!
Might place one more small order by the weekend, but I'll really be waiting for next week's releases like most everyone else.
I'm a little concerned because I'm almost 100% positive that BSG complete will go OOS within a short period of time after it goes "live" for the sale. And while you can still order OOS items, I just want to be assured that DD doesn't "discontinue" this particular item before fulfilling my order. I'd order it from Dvdplanet, but the price is higher and I don't have any credit there.

No.
But during every 20/25% off sale since they started selling books and CDs, they have dropped the price on many books for the duration of the sale. (Though, looking through a handful of titles, it doesn't like they're doing that this time.)

I'm personally holding out for an inevitable double-dip on both formats. The extras on both the DVD and BD are quite disappointing, and for a film that grossed $1 billion worldwide that's unacceptable.
I'm just sticking with my single-disc DVD until we get something along the lines of Warners' I am Legend: Ultimate Collector's Edition (with a commentary, additional features, etc.)

Hi all, sorry if this has been posted already, but search didn't find it. So, I decided to stop procrastinating and make an order today - only to find two of the items I wanted were gone.

Received one of the two titles I ordered today. It came in a plastic envelope with shipping info printed right on it and no bubble wrap inside (first time I've gotten anything from them in one of these). The DVD inside was seated in a plastic tray to keep it from rattling around. Although it does not appear to be a floater, I can hear the light rattling of what are probably pieces of a broken plastic disc hub inside the keep case. (Haven't opened it yet). This was ordered last Friday.
I am still awaiting the Peanuts 1960's Collection, which is still listed as backordered on my account and I've received no shipping e-mail, but my credit card has been billed for it, so I assume it's coming. Has anyone else with a backorder gotten a shipping confirmation for this title recently?

My first shipment had two problems: One of the discs listed on the invoice was missing, and another disc was a floater. They responded to my inquiry within 24 hours or so, and are in the process of making things right. I'm happy so far.
I've gotten Bing on all three DD orders, but not on my BN purchase.

I don't know what time that the status will go from preorder to in stock, but because I'm on vacation this week, I'll be up at midnight (and perhaps later) to see if it happens at that time...

My backordered Peanuts collection shipped Friday. Everything else has either been received or is in transit- including my BSG set from DVD Planet.
Will be placing one more order tomorrow. Was able to keep the total bill down quite a bit this year, which is a great feeling rather than the usual regret from ordering more than I really needed.

The wait for my backordered Watchmen is killing me. But I can't bring myself to pay over $20 for any BluRay.
So I wait...

The wait for my backordered Watchmen is killing me. But I can't bring myself to pay over $20 for any BluRay.
So I wait...Reminds me of what I tell my clients. Choose two (and only two) of the following outcomes:
1. Fast
2. Cheap
3. Accurate
You can't get all three, but you do get to choose which two are most important to you.
So if you want it fast and accurate, it won't be cheap. If you want it cheap and accurate, it won't be fast. And if you want it fast and cheap, it won't be accurate.
