Didn't Amy Adams just play her?

yeah...in "Night at the Museum 2", i think this is going for a little more drama and less Ben Stiller.

I will definitely be seeing this. Mira Nair is one of my favorite film-makers. The Namesake should have been nominated for Best Picture and Best Director at the Academy Awards.

The Real Amelia

I have to say, looking at pics of Amelia, Hilary is a great casting choice.

After seeing this trailer before Public Enemies today, nothing says "We want a bunch of Oscars really, really badly" more like this trailer did. Pass.

Hilary Swank grinds my fucking nerves. I find the trailer really annoying. This will have to get some serious critical praise before I'd consider sitting through it -- my natural inclination is yet-another-baity-melodramatic-biopic.

It looks like it might be good. I'll put it on my Netflix que when it's available...

Isn't that her job? Professional Oscar Nominee?

Wasn't that interested in this pic when I first heard about it, but after seeing the trailer, there's something about Amelia that seems like it could make for an entertaining movie.

Professional Oscar WINNER. She's 2 for 2. Annette Bening must hate her guts.

She's got as good a chance as anyone else in the past who's played some kind of historical figure. Based on past winners, the voters definitely love giving the statues to biopics.

Definitely a movie made with the intention of an Oscar-grab - be it Best Picture and/or Best Actress.

It is a good casting choice... they both give off that dyke vibe.

So that's what Richard Gere has been up to. I wondered what happened to him.

I can't stand Swank so I'll be passing on this snoozer. Unless they pull a Family Guy and Gere plays Charles Lindbergh, and the whole film is how he secretly rubbed Amelia out.

Sounds like this film could use a little more Ben Stiller & Amy Adams and a little less Hillary Swank.

Wow, Amelia Earhart is a dead ringer (pun intended) for Charles Lindbergh.
Maybe they should have gotten James Stewart to play her.

No film could use a little more Ben Stiller.

I had not been aware of this film until I just saw a teaser that emphasized the romance between Earhart and Gere's character. It may have been the most vomit-inducing film trailer I have ever seen.

In looking at the full trailer (as linked in the OP), it doesn't look nearly as bad but I am still not seeing myself running to buy tickets to this one. It looks very formulaic and likely to take tremendous liberties with the factual record. I do hope that they at least resisted the temptation to play fill-in-the-blanks with the last hours of her life a la The Perfect Storm.

Holy crap this movie is being destroyed by critics. It's pretty bad when one of the few fresh comments on RT uses the following quote:

It just never takes off.

It's sitting at 23% right now.

Mira Nair usually makes snoozefests (The Namesake was decent but should have been better) so the horrendous reviews + her directing = SKIP.

I agree about The Namesake. Could have been SOOO much better. I found most of it boring.
Vanity Fair was ok, but too long.
Of course Monsoon Wedding was great, so I'll always give her films a chance, but I think I'll wait for video on this one.

Wow. For someone who led such an adventurous life this movie about her was boring boring boring. Decent script and the acting was pretty good but what made Amelia who she was is never really explored and that's a shame.

Interesting that a portrayal of Amelia Earhart in a comedy is going to be more fondly remembered than a serious biopic.

Uh, right....

Hilary has always given off a "dyke vibe" in a few of her roles - but it's called ACTING. She's pretty hetero in real life.

Is she acting in interviews? Because I still get that vibe then, and in all the other movies I see her in. It's just a vibe, it doesn't mean she's not hetro.

Just watched this and when you have the cast this does, the director it does and good set and costume designs, you'd think they would've sprung for a better script. What we got instead was a good looking movie that feels hollow through and through. I didn't know much about Earhart before and I didn't discover anything new after watching the movie. I didn't care about any of these character or what happens to them. Shame really, but it should've been a whole lot deeper... 5/10
