Was just in my local Blockbuster today and saw that the 3 for $20 on 14.99 or less pre-viewed DVDs sale is back. Picked up Taken, Underworld 3, and My Bloody Valentine 3D.

Not all that long ago the deal was 4 for $20 on $14.99 or less. I just bid my time and wait for the $14.99 titles to come down to $9.99 and then get them on the 4 for $20 deal. Anyways, I always troll the clearance rack with the $3.99 titles. I find a gem every so often. Good hunting!!
Take care all!!

Most of them are beat to shit since they are rentals

any movie that i have ever rented, not on release day from BBV, has skipped on me. or at least almost every single one. never a new release on release day, never one that i bought myself, but almost every one of theirs that have hung out for a bit.
they really don't do anything to take care of their DVD's whatsoever. it sucks still having the 'Rewards' bc even though i get a free non-new release rental with every rental, it is always painstaking to get through something i really desired to see.

It's true that BB used DVDs can be a little beat up. That's why I always ask to inspect them before purchase. I sometimes go through 4-5 copies until I find one that has minimal flaws. The clerks are always fine with that. Even so, if you have a fairly recent and decent DVD player, it should be able to play discs with routine wear. Some of my Netflix discs are pretty beat up, but a non-player is very very rare. If you can't stand buying something with even a dinky scratch, because it just bugs you, well then you'd better not buy BB discs.

I will not say this does not happen, but...I have purchased about forty of these titles in the past six months and only two have not looked pristine, and the store had no problems exchanging the other two that didn't. I'm all about having skip-free discs that work perfectly, but I don't mind paying 5-7 dollars a title, instead of the 15-25 dollars that new ones cost either.:)

So far I've never had problems with a used dvd. Although some have looked a little beat up. Just inspect first.

I buy used DVDs in BB all of the time. There hasn't been a single time that a DVD has not been working and I'm sure if you find one, you can exchange it for another copy of the same movie.

I probably own somewhere around 4000 dvd's, and would guess that about 300 or so are former BB rentals. It really is a cr*p shoot, sometimes they are pristine, sometimes they are scratched to heck, but in all my years of collecting I have never seen nor heard of a dvd that didn't play just fine.

Time for a new player. I put movies I can't believe will play into my Toshiba A3 and the thing plays it without a hiccup.
That said, I've found that those titles I buy used from BB are all in pristine condition... because I go through 2-3 of them to ensure I get a like new disc.

I remember those days. It was about three times a year or so they would do the 4 for $20 on $14.99 titles. But I haven't seen that in about two years. It sux! But I do the same as you... I just hold off until they drop to $9.99 then go with the 4 for $20. I got tired of seeing the titles I just bought for 3 for $20 a week later on the 4 for $20 rack. Or finding them on sale at Best Buy for $4.99. So now I just wait and refuse to pay more than $5.00 for a title.

Not true. At least not in the Philly area. They used to do 4 for $20 every so often on the $14.99 titles.

I disagree with mattysemo247. Sure, if you come across an older title from years ago that has been sitting in the store for 5 years then yes it will probably be scratched to hell. But newer titles, I buy them all the time and the discs 90% of the time look like new. I always ask to see the discs before I buy them. Sometimes some have scratches but I just go grab another until I find one that looks perfect.

I also think scratching depends on the title. Paul Blart, Mall Cop will be scratched more often than The reader or Revolutionary Road. Besides one has a month to take back an unplayable title.

yeah, it depends on the title, i mean transformers is probably going to have a lot more damaged copies than say synecdoche new york just because of the frequency and demographic of the people renting the movie. and yeah, i usually try and check out the 4 for 20 with the 15 movies which they did have about a month or so ago at the BB near me.

Really? I didn't realize they would have those kinds of sales. I can see that people are patient to wait for the $14.99 to go down to $9.99 but I can't wait that long. How long does it take for a $14.99 used DVD go down to a $9.99 used DVD?

Well I noticed that the House Bunny and Death Race were new $9.99 additions at my Blockbuster and those came out in December...so about 6 months it seems.

Depends on the title and how many copies they get in. After so many views they put them up for sale. I've seen some of the bigger block busters at $9.99 only after a month or two.

I have never considered my local Blockbuster to be an especially great deal. The movies are in usually over-priced and in poor condition so I would sooner buy them new elsewhere whenever possible.
