60GB PS3 question(s)

OK, so I have a 60GB PS3. I don't use it for anything but playing BluRay movies. Would it be in my best interest to trade/sell it for say, a 40GB (+$)? Is there any real benefit to having a 60GB over a 40 if you only watch blu's on it? Have there been any issues with 40's overheating or anything? I saw someone has one for trade in the trade forum and he's looking for an 80, but I obviously wouldn't need one that size.

Thanks,

~S2K

Re: 60GB PS3 question(s)

You'll sacrifice a few memory card slots and 2 USB ports, but that's about it, I think.

There's no harm in putting it up for sale IMO, and if all you're going to do is play BRDs in it, just buy a standalone player.

Or you could get one after the next price drop to check out a few of the better exclusives like Uncharted, Ratchet and LBP...not to mention some amazing PSN titles like Flower and Zen Pinball.

Don't forget the extra backwards-compatability the 60gb has over the other models.

The Backward compatibility is very nice. That's about it.

That's just it though, I don't own any PS3 games, and I never had any PS2 games, and the only PS game I have is Intelligent Qube, so Backwards compatability isn't an issue.

You had to either have been FIRMLY in the Microsoft camp or just not into gaming at the time to skip the PS2.

I can't imagine having missed out on Ico, Shadow of the Collossus, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, God of War, Okami, and RE4 amongst many others.

Not true. I owned a Gamecube and Xbox and didn't feel the need to own a third system.

I played a lot more GameCube last gen than PS2. I can totally relate to this. One problem I had was my PS2 kept breaking. I could never keep one reading discs long enough to build a library.

Re: 60GB PS3 question(s)

I actually bought a PS2 twice. The first one I bought was when Turismo 2 (or 3, I don't remember) came out, maybe at launch. I thought it was a shit sequel and I sold the system within a month. Then, about a year or two later a girl at work was selling one with 3-4 games for $100 so I grabbed it, but I was so consumed with Halo (maybe Halo 2) that I resold it for $150 about a week later. My boys had/have a Gamecube, but I can honestly say that I've never played the Cube except for about 2 hours of RE4. Just like the 360, the XBox provided everything I was looking for in a system and games, everything else, to me, wasn't good enough.

Sounds like you should sell it. Or give it away. How about I give you my address .

Good "only game" to have, retained its value really well.

The 40gb is quieter, get it if you don't plan on using the PS2 feature.

I was probably 50/50 between PS2 and Gamcube...and I never had either one die on me. Gamecube had my three favorite franchises (Mario, Metriod and Zelda) along with RE4, Mario Kart, Strikers, Eternal Darkness, and I think I played Beyond Good and Evil on the Cube. PS2 had Ratchet and Clank, Ico, Shadow of the Collossus, Sly Cooper, God of War, Okami, Psychonauts, and because of the absurd install base, nearly every game made for PS2 and ported to the other systems.

Anyway, yes, backward compatibility is totally worth keeping the system for if you are open minded about games and like to play good ones.

That's not going to be an issue for long.

We'll see. My guess is that Sony will use the BC software to get you to download games you already own on disk.

My gaming budget's always been pretty limited. I only check out, at most, about six titles a year (2005-2007 were exceptions for me). I had a PS2 but I only bought Twisted Metal Black, Katamari Damacy (and its sequel), Norrath, Colossus, and 24: The Game for it.
