Bad Viewing Company
I was watching a movie with my new roommate today and it became a very displeasurable experience.
I really hate when folks talk during movies (which he did... a lot).
I also hate when people fast forward through credits (which he did).
But I really couldn't believe he fast forwarded through some scenes just because the movie slowed down a little bit.
This has only happened to me once before, when I watched "Cache" with the family of a girl I was seeing. Anytime a scene stood still too long, they'd flash past it.
Any similar experiences? This just blew my mind.

Maybe it's force of habit from watching too many porno tapes.

One of my roommates talks incessantly through movies. I don't want to be a jerk and tell him to shut up, so I never respond. Eventually he tends to get the message and quiets down. But even then I can tell he really wants to comment and will do so if I show the slightest bit of interest in hearing what he has to say. Annoying.

My wife consistently has me pause movies for a snack break or a bathroom break. Drives me nuts. She doesn't get up in the theater but can't resist the convenience of being at home I guess.

A friend of mine makes it a habit to check his watch about 90 minutes into the movie, and then tell me a quick non-sequitur of a story before returning back to watching.
Another friend often speaks up whenever there's a plot point or twist by saying "I knew it!" but nothing else.

A friend of mine will get excited during a scene and pull out a Colt Peacemaker and fire it into the ceiling.
Really takes you out of the movie, unless it happens to be a western during such a 'fire 'em into the skies boys' scene, and then it's like amazingly immersive.

My girlfriend always talks or asks questions when we watch movies at home. It drives me crazy, and no matter how many times I ask her to be quiet and just watch, she can't help it. She'll ask me what happens, what things mean, why characters do things, etc. even though I tell her it will be explained later and to just watch.

There are just some people who can not shut the fuck up for 2 hours. I have a couple of friends like this and I refuse to watch movies with them. I think these people need a Xanax enema.

I note you're not coming out and stating the obvious about your girlfriend. Good show.
I once had some friends I like ask me "why did he turn to ash there at the end" about the ending of '30 Days Of Night' - when Josh Hartnett's character turned to ash as sunup - they asked me this as we were leaving the theatre. They were a couple and neither knew why.
I'm sorry, I like them, but that makes you as stupid as a sack of exceptionally stupid hammers.

More than three friends = can't be watched. None of them know anything about movies but have gained interest so they ask questions about plot points and other information even if I haven't seen it. They know I hate this; I just point to the screen.

I think we've all been through a bad movie-watching experience at some point. I hate watching a movie with someone that has already seen it and they feel the need to say "watch this" or something similar before a particular scene. I'm watching!

The worst is when someone has prove how they can outsmart the movie, and they tell you what's going to happen next, throughout the whole thing.

I'm not even sure what this means but it made me laugh.

We were watching TO DIE FOR. Right after the kids kill her husband, he looks at his watch to estimate when the film will end ("The movie's over when the credits roll!" I want to scream.) Then he turns to me, and mutters something like, "Oh, when I was at work today, Whassername called me up and told me she found her earrings behind the couch. So I don't have to worry about buying her new ones." a story which has nothing to do with nothing. Then he goes back to watching the movie while I'm thinking, "WTF?"

I was about to post the same thing. I have a friend who makes it a point to 'predict' everything, even things that are telegraphed to the point where it would be obvious to a first grader, and then cockily act like she's smarter than everyone else in the room who didn't feel it was necessary to point out overtly foreshadowed events. If you tell her it was obvious, she'll retaliate with something along the lines of "You're just mad you didn't think of it first!"

I didn't expect to find a spoiler for "30 Days of Night" when I came in this thread.
Anyhow, I NEVER watch movies at home with other people.

I hate when people talk to the screen and basically just repeat what a character has just said. A character in the movie will say something along the lines of, "I'm gonna mess you up!" And the person says to the TV, "Oh yeah! He's gonna mess you up all right!" There is a guy who I occasionally watch movies with and he does this and it just bugs the shit out of me.

Back in my pre-Crohn's drinking days, it drove me nuts that my wife (then girlfriend) and most of our friends would insist on watching a movie drunk. I'm a music-for-drinking guy, because I like that I can still carry on conversations while songs are playing and sing along with one when I really get the urge. For someone attentive like myself, there is nothing worse than a great party buzz coming to a complete halt because some drunks want to watch a movie. And it's never even the same thing, either. One night, it's Super Troopers, a week later it's Bad Boys. A month after that, we're watching some horror movie.
To this day, whenever I'm hanging out with more than one person, I loathe anything being on a TV, with the tolerable exception for sporting events. And even then, I often have to choose between following the game (which I only really want to do if it's baseball) or paying attention to one of three conversations (which everyone else around me insists on demonstrating they can do during whatever's on). Drives me nuts.

I had an ex who talked throughout the entire movie. I remember watching Fracture with her, and once the 2nd act got going, she spent the next half of the movie guessing how it would end. She actually guessed right after 10 or so minutes of talking, but instead of lying and saying she was wrong, I told her she was right just so she would shut the fuck up.
Then she kept saying how smart she was. So I took off my belt and smacked her around a bit. That did the trick.

Re: Bad Viewing Company
I had a roommate who would laugh at EVERYTHING. I mean, the end of Bicycle Thieves had him rolling. He seriously thought everything was a comedy. Also, he'd sit down while I was watching a movie, chew on a Hot Pocket for a couple minutes, then say, inevitably, "What's this?" The worst part was the couple minutes before he said it; I knew it was coming, just not exactly when. Got to the point where I'd just hold up the DVD case until he said, again inevitably, "Never heard of it."
Another roommate at the same place was the "So, is this, like, the main guy?" guy. I fucking hate that guy.

The worst part is that they usually end up guessing every possibility, so one of them is bound to turn out right.

I'd rather just watch it by myself sometimes.
However, I have a group of friends that gets together on a semi-frequent basis to watch movies and we all know that there's going to be talking up front. We're usually watching B (or C) grade horror movies or recently it was blaxploitation flicks. Those kind of movies just lend themselves to talking back to the screen. It makes it more fun.
