I just read over in the DVD forum that the animated Dungeons & Dragons is being re-released by Mill Creek Entertainment. This time it'll be the entire series again, but also a 1 disc "Beginnings" release. Amazon seems to have the entire series for sale for $12.99 pre-order for a August 25th release. Not sure if the price was meant to be the 1 disc price, so if you'e interested, pre-order now.
Bargain. My favorite cartoon growing up... But I already bought the complete series the first time it was released...

I barely remember that cartoon, even though I know I watched it.

I broke down and bought the BCI release after the announcement they were closing shop, would have preferred this cheaper version, but I guess the original packaging is pretty good.
Looks like these Mill Creek pickups will be a great way to get Ultraman.

Does anyone know if the "beginnins" set has episodes that are not part of the previously released set?

I thought the other set was complete and contained all of the eps. I know the writer of the show has a website containing the script he wrote for an episode to end the show where they get home, but it was never made.

Man, I wish they made one final episode to wrap it up....but my guess is that Mill Creek intends to just offer some options like the He-Man series. Thing is, there's so few episodes in this D&D series. I just noticed the Beginnings disc pre-sale price is $14.98.
Darn, I can't quite remember if I bought the original release or not. Would hate to miss this price if it's a mistake.
Edit to add: Wait, it's a pre-order, so i can go ahead and order and have plenty of time to cancel if necessary.
Edit again to add: Wait, it's only 50% off, so I'm sure we'll see this price again.

No, it's just the first disc.

Here is info on the change from BCI to Mill Creek. Note that there is a run-time discrepancy, and this new release is listed at only 3 discs, so likely has no bonus material...

Even I remember buying it when it came out because it doesn't fit on a shelf and has to sit on top. It's the red box thing.

The runtime is listed as higher on this release when compared to the BCI one, despite 2 less disks. If you are a fan of the show and want a lot of extras then I would probably grab up the BCI set while it's still relatively easy to find as it was very well done. If this set ends up being better you probably could still sell the BCI one and get this one at virtually no cost.

As I never got the original set, is it 27 episodes spread out over 5 discs? Even with bonus material, that seems to stretch everything quite a bit. If they everage 5 episodes at 22 minutes each per disc, that's just under two hours. I didn't think the old set had that many hours crammed on each disc.

To be more thorough than necessary, I do remember buying it; at Best Buy with the exclusive figurine (or something attached to the top, making even larger). However, I don't recall seeing it since that initial week, so I either returned it or it is buried in a bag or box somewhere.
I'm ashamed to admit that I expect to find at least 30 or so buried and forgotten DVDs the next time I clean house.

This is a great deal. I purchased it a few years ago when if first came out. Just an fyi...there is no ending to the series. It was just canceled by the network even though several people believe there are lost episodes.

So is this basically the same release, only minus all the extras?

The BCI set contained all the produced episodes and the unproduced final episode was made into a "radio play" style presentation with music, sound effects and narration. It was produced by Wally Wingert (Family Guy, Invader Zim) and features a number of professional voice over talents (and the original Shiela the Thief).

That's a good question Sessa, anyone have an answer?

FYI for those ordering this: The DVDs come in black paper sleeves that stack inside the plastic DVD case.
