Looks like Land of the Lost will be a bomb. IMDB says the production budget was $100 mil.
I'm surprised the Hangover did that well. That's awesome.

Wow. I really F-ed up by predicting The Hangover would end up with less that $40 million for its entire gross. OH well, +1 for the first real R-rated film of summer. I guess all that supposed "good word of mouth" didnt do shit to help Drag me to hell.
Box office mojo lists LOTL's take at over $7.2 million.
Also its cool to see My Life in RUins bomb. I hate that NIa Vardolos chick.

BOM's predictions for Friday.

It has Terminator beating Star Trek, but it looks like a very close weekend for most movies.

Thats 2 major bombs for Universal in 2 weeks! Ouch!
All they really got is their 3 nearly 2.5 hour R-rated guns left this summer (Public Enemies, Funny People and Inglorious Basterds) and Bruno (also rated R).
Those are coincidentally the only movies I am really interested in this summer (also the Boat that rocked looks good also and that of course is indeed another R-rated 2 hour+ film from Universal)
I hope these do better for them than Hell and Lost did.

Wouldn't Bruno be around 90 minutes (give or take) considering Borat's length? There hasn't been an announced, locked running time yet.
I'm going to be catching The Hangover tonight, I can't wait. I'm also sure any Unrated cut of the film will only add up to a minute or two more based upon Phillips' other releases. And why DVD? Why not experience that Unrated goodness on Blu-ray?

Awesome News for the Hangover, it deserves to be #1, hopefully it will be a huge hit and get good word of mouth.

Good for The Hangover. I caught it yesterday and loved it. Had a great time in the theater. I'm shocked but very happy it will beat LOTL.

It did very poorly and was a big underperformer. There is NO other way to look at it. It is having like a 60+% drop this weekend after opening up to quite a bit less than originally forecasted.

How is it possible that one person can make a thread both unbearable and hysterical at the same time, every single week?
I'll be catching Hangover on Monday.

The drop won't be in the mid-60s, it'll be in the mid-50s. Horror flicks generally have a front loaded first Friday, the fact it had under a 60% drop on Friday (from last Friday) means it'll drop less than that on Sat and Sunday (most likely). The movie didn't have a big budget and it's pretty obvious, the CG was absolutely horrendous in that flick (additionally, the only real sets they probably had to build were the graveyard and the house.) That said, fun movie, the car sequence was gold . Oh and 20 extra minutes nor an R rating would have changed anything with that flick, it's a different brand of horror altogether.
Also website predictions aren't the same thing as studio predictions, those are rarely made public to begin with so I don't know how you expect to measure "under-performance". I honestly don't think the studio could have had huge hopes for a 1950s style horror/comedy where a floating handkerchief essentially has a supporting role.
To note, Ghost House rarely releases big hits, they got lucky with The Grudge but nothing since then. The movies have a modest budget and generally do passable but not great numbers at domestic theaters, examples:
The Grudge - $110m (Budget: $10m)
The Grudge 2 - $39m (Budget: $20m)
Boogeyman - $47m (Budget: $20m)
The Messengers - $35m (Budget: $16m)
30 Days of Night - $39m (Budget: $30m)
Drag Me to Hell fits in around the middle of that, as it will likely top out around $35m and likely had a $15m budget. All things considered (a small release in a sea of big budget summer flicks) it isn't doing bad at all. Though I am curious to see what Universal spent on advertising.
But hey, keep fighting these battles, they're entertaining.
Land of the Lost has a $100m budget which sadly isn't all that high anymore. It won't be big, but it'll more than break even when all is said and done. (International, TV rights, video sales, etc; )
I'm glad to see The Hangover on top for Friday (it won't win the weekend), I hope to see it tonight.

wow, it looks like Up also had great weekday numbers too (didn't it open with like 68 mil or so?) if those numbers keep up (no pun intended), it will prob have less then a 30% drop

Given the way "Star Trek" has held up over the course of each weekend, I wouldn't be surprised if it passes both "Drag Me to Hell" and "Terminator Salvation" for total weekend take.

I guess My Life in Ruins proves Nia V. was a one hit wonder (for the time being at least.), that one hit was so god awful though, I can't imagine her other two movies being that much worse.

Once again, you have no idea what you're talking about. Now go laugh at adults without kids going in to see "Up".
