Wow, quick lock on the May thread. Anyway, just finished The Last Coyote from Michael Connelly, and now I'll probably split my time between the following two books:

Quickly finished a very overrated book IMO given all the hype, hope it will make a better movie.

Now I'm about half way through the fantastic. . .

By virtue of a clean finish, I'm going to begin a new book to inaugurate the month of June. I'm rather excited to crack open...
I Am Not a Cop! - A Novel by Richard Belzer with Michael Black
Edit: I started I Am Not a Cop! around 11 last night, and finished around 4:40 this morning. Very fun, with enough of the mystery based upon the kind of real world conspiracy theories one would expect from The Belz.
Next up...
Inspired by Lateralus's high praise (and my own fascination with its subject, which stretches back to my childhood):
I'm reading Denis Leary's Why We Suck. It's pretty good, so far, but I think if you're not a fan of his stand up or the "ranting" style in general, it should be skipped. Basically, the only thing that the book has been about is how when HE was growing up, people didn't coddle their kids the way they do now, and HE is better for it, so parents shouldn't coddle their kids. He actually sounds like an angry old man so far, but funny.

Sex Lives of Cannibals — J. Marteen Troost
How was that? My wife has looked at that at Barnes & Noble a couple of times. She thought it would be fun, but between her work and school schedule she just can't bring herself to take a risk on a book that might waste her scarce free time.
This is my third time reading it. The first time I loved it, the second time it definitely wasn't as great as I remember, so this will be the tie-breaker. I am reading all of the Michael Connelly books now.

Just finished Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire yesterday. Started this last night..

It's hard to describe. I am really finicky with books and I don't finish a lot of them. I also mostly read non-fiction, and if I'm not learning anything while reading, I usually stop reading it.
I thought The Sex Lives of Cannibals was good, even if it was a mostly perfunctory look at life in one of the most isolated countries in the world. The problem with J. Maarten Troost as opposed to say, Bill Bryson, is that he offers up some startling fact, presents it for a paragraph or two, then forgets about it.* It's like he has Attention Deficit Disorder and he moves through a lot of topics that are intriguing but we never get a second look. This means that you get a fresh perspective on things and the book never gets scholarly, but it also means that you don't learn enough to even get a basic understanding of what is going on behind what you're reading. If you can let that curiosity go, then the book is entertaining.
* One example. Troost is in a multiple-island nation, and he says that each island is famous for something: knife fights, etc. One island is famous for its oral sex. He wonders why that is, then changes the subject.

Got about 100 pages left of . . .

I've wanted to read this for such a long time, I'm already 50 pages in to it and will probably have it done in a day or two!
Probably my favorite book of all time. Since it is pretty short, I intentionally took my time reading it because I didn't want it to end. I plan to reread it again in the upcoming weeks.
Awesome book, one of the best I read. just finished his new book....
DROOD, good but not as good.
It's very good & some of the best stranded in the arctic horror ever, it would make a phenomenal movie, much better material for a film that the over-hyped extremely overrated The Road. But I was a bit let down with what the monster turned out to be, & the whole mystic-eskimo crap, I mean the chick blowing into Crozier's lungs playing music WTF!?. I've heard that Drood isn't very good at all.

Great book, his Summer into Night would also make a great movie. Like a Goonies horror movie.
My first time reading Gaiman. About halfway through and it has been pretty entertaining.

[/spoiler]. I've heard that Drood isn't very good at all.
Drood started out well, but then meandered for too many pages and kind of imploded. I felt Simmons fell too much in love with Wilkie Collins' voice, and could have trimmed quite a few pages.
It's interesting, about half of what I've read of his is Brooklyn-centered coming of age/mystery, and half is science fiction (or sf/mystery), but a type of SF I've not really encountered before. Or a combo of both. Definitely a varied talent. I think the last author I read who impressed me with his range was Walter Jon Williams.

Hey I read this a few weeks ago. Great info on the baron. I never knew just how much he had to do with the revolution and how close he was to GW. I really liked it.

Just finished No Country for Old Men and The Road. They both read almost like scripts. NCFOM was almost all on the screen with minor differences. They were pretty good. Am now reading some Roger Ebert books.

Looks pretty intresting, I know nothing about him. There is another book I found about a Polish engineer that helped in the war that history as pretty much forgotten about: Thaddeus Kosciuszko.

If it wasn't "young adult" it should have been. Still, good.
