From Variety (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118004321.html?categoryid=13&cs=1):Natalie Portman will star with Danny McBride and James Franco in "Your Highness," a Universal Pictures comedy that begins production in July in Ireland. David Gordon Green ("Pineapple Express") is directing.

Scott Stuber is producing through his U-based banner.

McBride, who wrote the script with Ben Best, plays an arrogant lazy prince who with his brother (Franco) must complete a quest to save the kingdom and his brother's fiance. Portman will play a warrior princess that the lazy prince falls in love with.

McBride and Best set up the project with U and Stuber last year. Jon Mone and Andy Davis are exec producers.

Those of us not named Devin Faraci haven't been lucky enough to get a glimpse of Your Highness. The rest of us are waiting impatiently for a trailer, and biding our time until April 8, 2011.

But those who want to go the extra mile and visit their comic shop in March will actually get a sneak peek. Sean Phillips announced today that Dark Horse will be publishing a Your Highness one-shot. The gloriously Labyrinth-esque cover is to your right.
(Still no leather-clad Natalie Portman, though. She's not in this part of the story, I guess. Sorry, guys.)

Here's the official story synopsis for Your Highness, the comic: Prince Fabious is the pride of his kingdom—his exploits are the stuff of legend. To keep the kingdom of Mourne safe from the vicious wizard Leezar’s minions he will have to slay a rampaging Cyclops, which has already destroyed a village! In the meantime, Prince Thadeous, Fabious’ brother, and royal embarrassment, embarks on a diplomatic mission to the Dwarf Kingdom. All he needs to secure peace with the dwarves is obtain a simple signature. But when Thadeous decides to partake in the Dwarf Kingdom’s kind herb and show them who the life of the party is, he may be the spark that sets off a war and be its first casualty! These stories lead directly up to the events at the beginning of Your Highness, the movie!

It written by Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley, penciled by Phillips and inked by Paul Peart. It will be hitting shelves on March 2, 2011.

I think you can expect epic Red Sonja style boobage. And probably a really funny story, too.

I dunno, most of the jokes in the trailer fell flat for me. The scene where Portman flips McBride over and he says "well that didn't go as planned" was particularly old and lame and hopefully not emblematic of the rest of the film. I do applaud Portman in a thong though.

What I was hinting at is that if I got invited to a screening on Tuesday night, I'm sure we will begin to see reviews of the film appearing as early as Wednesday morning.

It's not as if Danny McBride personally came to my house, shook my hand, and personally invited me to the screening. I'm sure a quarter of the screening will be racing home to write a review to post it online to say they were first. Shit, that's because I know I'd do the same exact thing. :)

Since when does this count as a shitty comedy? Still over a week before it's released and reviews start hitting.

what's up with Natalie being in these shitty comedies recently - need that paycheck huh?, before having her kid ....Even without having seen it yet, I think one can sign onto a comedy by the writers of "Eastbound and Down", helmed by the director of both Pineapple Express and All the Real Girls/Snow Angels, with cast members like James Franco and Justin Theroux, and not be a sell-out. This is clearly not...I don't know, Meet Dave or Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Nowhere near as funny as the green band trailer but... Natalie Portman's ass....

I think the undies in the green band trailer were CGI enhanced.

Just OK - there are some very funny bits here and there (The molesting wizard being the highlight) but a lot of the time I didn't think they went hard enough for the joke. Some parts are filthy and those mostly work, but other times, just uttering the word 'fuck' isn't enough. I thought Franco was awesome, same with Portman but was expecting a bit more from McBride - this is his show afterall, but I felt like he was restrained a bit. The effects were decent and some of the adventure stuff is fun but I was left thinking it was a great cast, great concept and just mediocre execution.

When I was writing my review I came to the conclusion that the film, even exactly as is, would be much funnier if Franco and McBride switched roles. But the trivia that they ad-libbed the whole thing...yeesh, talk about squandered potential.

It was worth watching. It wasn't great by any means, and I was a little disappointed by the lack of humor, but that was counterbalanced by a sword and sorcery setting that was actually better than I thought it would be. There are still some major laughs to be had, but it's just not as funny as I hoped.

McBride is funny as all hell usually, but he was actually a little more reserved than normal here. His character could have used a little more swagger.

Franco pretty much plays the movie straight, as an earnest hero. He's simply alright here.

Zooey was wasted. She pretty much played cleavage in distress. Very nice cleavage, but it was still a disappointment.

Portman, however, knocked it out of the park. Her character was actually pretty bad ass, and what's more amazing is that she was believably bad ass. I'm usually not really big on Portman; she annoys me as often as I find her entertaining, and I don't generally even find her as attractive as other people seem to (she's scrawny and her head is way too big for her malnourished body, usually). Here, though: good lord. Incredibly hot, and they somehow managed to make her believable as an action star.

The worst crime of all is Damian Lewis. It was good to see him in a role, but all it did was remind me how awesome he was in Band of Brothers and make me wonder why he hasn't become a bigger star.

I thought the movie was pretty crappy all around. Most of the best lines are in the red band trailers, and in the context of the actual movie didn't turn out nearly as funny. The plot and action of the movie is played a lot more seriously then I expected it to be, and really all it felt was like a string of curse words and penis jokes in between.

I've never really cared for McBride (in both Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express) so this is just another instance of him being mediocre. Portman's character is just played straight throughout the whole movie, which was a let down since I expected her to have a little more humor. Franco was great for his role, but again, played a bit too serious other then some awkward situations that he was oblivious to that I expected more of given the way the movie started. The mechanical bird? I assumed they would have some sort of punchline with that, but again nothing.

Just a big disappointment all around. The only thing that the audience really seemed to get a big laugh out of was the Minotaur. I love a stupid comedy, and that's what the trailers had me thinking this was going to be but it just didn't deliver.

I saw this yesterday at a matinee and was the only person in the theater. My own private screening -- that was a first!

Like other's have mentioned, it was just passable considering the promising set-up. I assume the goodwill from David Gordon Green and Danny McBride got talent like Portman and Deschanel to sign on. I was surprised to see either of them appearing in a film this juvenile. Still, I relished the opportunity to see Natalie playing a hard-ass warrior woman.

Overall, I had a somewhat enjoyable time. The script could have used a few rewrites. So many comedic opportunities with this premise were missed in favor of another pot joke or random profanity. Some of the apparent improve from McBride/Franco fell flat in places. I do believe I laughed harder at the trailer than I did the entire movie.

saw it yesterday and i was let down for the most part. mediocre with moments of hilarity. this should've been a guaranteed winner considering the cast but it never really reached PINEAPPLE EXPRESS levels of greatness. maybe it'll grow on me with a few more viewings. i really hope david gordon green goes back to his roots with his next project (SUSPIRIA remake?).

I initially found "Your Highness" silly but fun. Then I let it marinate for a day, and found it more silly than fun. The script is a hodge-podge of the classical elements of the reluctant hero's journey set in medieval times, but the promise of hilarity missed its mark repeatedly, though there were some laughs mined from uncomfortable situations or profane gall, and they made use of the R rating through the trifecta of dropping F-bombs, boobs, and sexual situations. Is there a good movie within a couple of re-writes, I'm not sure.

Natalie Portman's role was written far too straight, but I enjoyed her scenes, while the scenes with James Franco and Danny McBride were hit-or-miss, and the scenes featuring Justin Theroux and Zooey Deschanel played relatively flat most of the times.

Ironically the biggest laugh for me was almost a throwaway scene given its role in the film, it involved fairy dust.

I give it 2.5 stars, or a grade of C+.

While it wasn't hilarious, I thought it was funny enough. The humor was low brow all around, but it's not quite the stoner comedy that the trailer and title would suggest, for which I'm thankful since I rarely find that genre funny. Only a handful of the jokes were about getting high. While I think that "curse words as jokes" is lazy, I admit to laughing at quite a few of them here. Maybe it's just McBride's delivery in an English accent.

Given the type of comedy it was, I was surprised that the effects were so good.

I definitely enjoyed it more than Paul, the only other 2011 comedy I've seen so far. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I see the praise heaped on that movie here.

Zooey was wasted. She pretty much played cleavage in distress. Very nice cleavage, but it was still a disappointment.

 I didn't think that I could love Zooey even more than I already did until I saw this. They worked wonders with tape, padding, cranks, and pulleys, given what they had to work with.

I am debating between this an Source Code this afternoon. I saw Hanna yesterday, so maybe I need some comedy today. I am on vacation so I will definitely have time to see one later, and I have been wanting to see this one for a while. However, the reviews have been less than stellar. Then again, I am wondering how much of that has to do with not getting the humor and the age of the mainstream critics evaluating it.

Saw it. Overall disappointed. Whenever a movie seems like it's desperately trying to be funny, it's not funny. I got a few chuckles, but given the people involved expected much more. What's sad is that I felt the production design and visual look would have made for a kick ass sword and sorcery movie along the lines of what we got in the early 80s. I will say I have to give props to Natalie Portman, for looking hot as hell and playing it straight. Problem is, she did such a good job it seemed neither she nor her character really belonged in this movie. I got the vibe that given the way they always had her looking confused by the off key antics of McBride and Franco that maybe such was part of the joke, but it did not work.

Our local theatre is having a $5 Tuesday deal so I checked it out with my friend.

I enjoyed it, McBride and his servant were funny as hell. I love how McBride talks down on him and he just takes it. The action scenes were surprisingly well shot and some of it was more exciting than Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. I wanted more comedy in the last half but it became an adventure movie.

There were enough funny scenes that I'd reccomend it to Danny McBride fan.

Grade: B, maybe B+ once I watch it several more times. I've noticed I enjoy comedy more after the initial viewing.

My friend and I saw this yesterday afternoon... in an empty theater. Well, to be fair a couple did walk in before it started, but they promptly left about 10 minutes in.

It was decidedly mediocre, poor even. I loved the team behind it - how could McBride & Best w/ Green directing not push out a winner? - but most every joke fell flat. It dragged and limped along to an anti-climactic finish. I hate to say I won't add it to my BD collection, but this one has no replay value for me.

My friend and I checked this out yesterday. I thought the action was good but all of the jokes just fell flat and the ones that would have been funny were shown in the trailers/commercials thus ruining them. If the humor had been better it would have been a pretty decent action/comedy.

Overall, I give it a 4/10.

Another Natalie Portman body double scandal! :)

I took the plunge for Natalie: Irish student paid £250 to act as Miss Portman's body double
By Sarah Fitzmaurice
Last updated at 2:04 PM on 16th April 2011

Her dance double for Black Swan has claimed that she did hardly any of the full body shots seen in the film.

And now it is claimed that Natalie Portman used yet another body double for her latest film Your Highness.

In fact, the actress is said to have avoided diving into an icy lake in Belfast and a local Irish girl was paid just £250 to take the plunge instead.

Caroline Davis from Ulster was paid the sum of money to jump into the cold waters meaning that Portman avoided braving the freezing lake.

The Irish student told The Sun: ‘I’m a film studies student so I jumped at the chance to be on set.’

Portman has been accused of performing very little of the body shots seen in Black Swan, the film that earned her an Oscar gong.

Sarah Lane, a soloist with the American Ballet Theatre who worked as Natalie's dance double on the Oscar-winning film, continues to claim the 29-year-old actress did hardly any of the full body shots seen in the movie.

Talking to ABC's Elizabeth Vargas, Lane says that the film's producers are lying about the amount of dancing Portman did in her scenes and need to come clean.

Speaking out: Talking to Elizabeth Vargas, Lane says that producers are lying about the amount of dancing Portman did in her scenes and need to come clean

'They're completely lying about the amount of dancing Natalie did in the movie,' she said.

The angry brunette implied that her skills as a dancer have now been insulted.

'I've been doing this for 22 years, and to say that someone trained for a year and a half and did what I did is degrading not only to me but to the entire ballet world,' she said.

Saw this on DVD last night. Loved it. Hysterical. I go to IMDb and it's getting eviscerated. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 25%. I'm shocked. It was fucking funny. Very quotable dead-pan jokes. This movie has a very high likelihood of being a cult classic.

It sort of reminds me of Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It got the lowest scores of any movie in the history of the Cannes Film Festival up to that time. I saw it opening night with a crowd that was baffled. Today it's the best selling Criterion DVD and every college kid has a poster on their dorm room wall. Just give it time.

The film did have a couple of problems.
-Portman was wasted. She shows up and plays it straight, but the film already has a straight man so she's redundant.
-The effects and action went on a bit too long in most situations. Less is more. They were very well done but too much.

All in all it was a great blend of comedy and all the silly shit I grew up on like Time Bandits, Clash of the Titans, Conan, Beastmaster, etc.

Terrible movie. Not that funny (dropping f-bombs and what not into a medieval fantasy styled epic grows stale REAL fast), it's not particularly interesting as either a comedy or a fantasy. It's actually, all thing considered, kinda bland and uninteresting.

If Green is gonna take the piss out of Kevin Smith, he might wanna consider shutting the fuck up for a long while.

Saw this last night on Blu. very glad it was a rental and that I never wasted hard earned money on it. For people as talented as this cast and crew were this thing sucked. My wife gave up after the "fingering the bridesmaids" sequence. I think it would have been funnier had he just said "bang the bridemaids". Everything they did was go for the cheap laugh. Basically it was 2 hours of locker room talk. They found it hilarious between themselves but most of the audience was left out in the cold. Even the gag reel was just them swearing. I give it a 2/5. It only got that because Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel are frikkin hott
