I am really surprised that it came down to the #1 and #2 seeds.

Mario 3. Music games are fun, but just a enjoyable diversion for me.

...almost voted for Rock Band.

Both games are really awesome. However, Rock Band is the game that keeps on giving. I have spent more hours with Rock Band than any other game ever. There's new content every week to keep it fresh. It's just awesome.

If it does lose though, SMB3 is a good game to lose to. I wouldn't say it's the best, but this isn't about the best. It's about your favorites.

Mario is fun to play through once every few years. Rock Band is fun to play once every few days. RB FTW.

10 years ago if you would have posted in this forum that one of the most popular upcoming games would involve the following as gameplay:

1. Colored circle moves from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen.
2. Player presses a button that corresponds to the colored circle.

Everybody would have thought you were insane.

DDR has been around for 10 years and is essentially the same thing. Putting that same concept to popular music is the key.

I'm not crazy about Mario games like apparently a lot of people here are, so I have to vote in favor of Rock Band 2. Very dissapointed with the 2 finalists.

This is a really tough one, but yeah, it came down to the fact that since '07, I've gone no more than a few days at a time without playing Rock Band. I loved Mario 3, but I just find RB to be consistently satisfying and virtually endless.

Rock Band 2 is the only game aside from Wii Sports that I have gotten everyone to play. Nobody says no.

Super Mario 3 isn't even the best game in the Mario series.

Gotta go with RB2. Never was a big fan of SMB3. Definitely preferred SMW.

Mario for me. Rock Band is good but its not even close to the same league as Mario. Put a red hat and blue suspenders on a turd and it will sell like crazy. Put non master tracks in rock band and you have Rock Revolution which was horrible. It's only the quality of the songs that make Rock Band any good. The basic game play is no different than GH or RR. Flame at will, I can take it.

Super Mario Advance 4.

It's also on Wii Virtual Console. And no NES?

I think RB2 should win, but more people will vote against RB2, as opposed to voting for SMB3.

Yep.
But it's "favorite", not "best", "most impact", "most classic", etc. Of the 2, RB2 is my favorite by far.

While that's true, that doesn't necessarily mean that people are voting based on those other criteria. The musical game genre in itself is less appealing to a lot of people and it's pretty easy to have no real taste for Rock Band while SMB3 has a broader appeal and something almost everyone has played.

I went with Rock Band. Mario is a great game, but other than the 3 years I lost to World of Warcraft, I have never played a game a much as Rock Band. Can't wait for the 12-pack of Maiden next week!

Well, since there has been about 10X the anti-RB2 talk than pro-Mario 3 talk, I'd say that's a fair statement. "heh"

I love Rock Band 2. It's very much the "Now" game though. I won't be playing Rock Band 2 20 years from now, but I still play SMB3. Gotta give the edge to SMB3.

It's just awesome. Okay, voting for the game because of additional content that you pay for that doesn't come with the game and hasn't even come out yet is hardly fair. If you're gonna do that, it should be up against the whole Mario franchise, including Mario games that haven't come out yet.

Sure, Mario won, but people shouldn't be voting for RB2 based on content not included on the retail disc.

Even if there was no additional content for RB2, *I* would've still voted for it.

If there was DLC available for SMB3, I think it would be acceptable to factor that into the equation. Same could be said for Fallout 3 or Gears of War.

A feature of the game is weekly DLC. I don't see how you could discount it. You aren't required to buy it, but it is a nice feature and a part of the game.

Thanks for the tourney orange. Kind of an anti-climactic ending though. It would be interesting to do it again eliminating Nintendo franchises in the nomination process.

Thanks for the tourney orange. Kind of an anti-climactic ending though. It would be interesting to do it again eliminating Nintendo franchises in the nomination process. That would just lead to a Rock Band 2 victory. I was trying to think of different "tournaments," but I couldn't come up with anything I think would be worthwhile.

As much as I would've loved RB2 to win the tourney, I wouldn't want to eliminate Nintendo franchises in order to do so. These are games and characters that people have grown up with over the years, and it's hard to compete with that.

Oh I get that, I was just tossing it out there because it would be interesting to see how things played out without 10 Marios, 5 Zeldas and 5 Metroids eating up 20 slots of a tourney.

Shagrath
06-03-09, 08:31 AM
Maybe just a franchise tourney? Although I could easily see Mario or Zelda picking up the win for that. Might play out a little differently, and have a little more variety as well.

Rock Band doesn't have characters (notable ones anyways). Insta-fail! :)
