I had a question about the component video quality in the Toshiba CZ27V51 27" television. Is the component video on this set considerably better than an S-Video connection through another 27" TV from another brand that might only have S-Video? I am considering buying this TV, mostly because it has component video, but was wondering how significant a difference it made over some other S-Video-only television sets that are a little cheaper (e.g. Sharp, RCA)

I have the RCA 27" with S-Video only. My RCA does black below black. It was meant for DVD in mind.

I got my brother-in-law the Toshiba CZ27V51..and now I'm pissed. In S-video mode..his set blew mine out in terms of quality picture. His damn set looked like it was already in component mode..and it wasn't!!! I could imagine in component mode!

He hasn't picked up a component cable because he's not too much into dvd. I mean..he likes it..but the technical stuff..he's not so into it.

I had that set..I will be viewing my dvds in component.

I have owned the CZ27V51 for about 5 months and compared the component inputs (using high quality cables) and the S-video (using an average quality cable). I'm very pleased with the quality of both inputs, with the component taking a slight edge for color purity. The sharpness and detail of both inputs seem to be equal and are a big improvement over the composite input.

While I have the CZ32V51, I would believe the quality differences would be the same. The component input has a very slightly sharper picture, but much much better/richer colours. A noticeable difference for sure. Paired up with the Toshiba 6109 I have, it's excellent for viewing DVDs.

I do have the CZ27V51, and to me, when I had the component video hooked up and compared it to the s-video output from my Proscan DVD player, I would detect more of a "tightness" with the overall video presentation when I was viewing the component video from the DVD player. But both were fine for viewing this TV from 6-8 feet away.

Thanks for everyone's input. I was wondering how this TV using component video compared to similar TVs of other brands that had only S-Video connections. So, if I played a DVD on the Toshiba hooked up to component video, how would the picture compare to a Sony for example, hooked up using only S-Video and the same DVD player?

I was just curious because there are many TVs in this price range ($350-450), and was wondering how the quality of the picture varied, and what I would be paying for if I paid for a more expensive TV than this one.
