DVD Talk review of 'The Friends of Eddie Coyle - The Criterion Collection'

I read Paul Mavis's DVD review of The Friends of Eddie Coyle - The Criterion Collection at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=37216 and...I first saw this movie in the early '80s during a college criminology class. The instructor, a former cop in Providence RI, said that it was unquestionably the most realistic portrayal of New England's small-time criminal underworld. Mitchum does a great job with the Irish/Boston accent, avoiding some of the exaggerations that bedeviled certain actors in The Departed. TFOEC makes a great double feature with Mitchum's other early '70s masterpiece, Sidney Pollack's The Yakuza.
