Castle - "A Death in the Family" 5/11/09

Spoiler:
Castle and Beckett investigate the murder of a plastic surgeon. Meanwhile, Alexis has her first prom and Castle snoops around Beckett's past and it's up for a surprise.

Also some veiled good news for Castle Surviving Suburbia is getting bumped until the summer which according to tv.com and a few sites this means Castle is moving back into the slot after dancing.

I think the ratings are high enough (around 9 million viewers) to warrant at least a 13-episode pick-up for a 2nd season.

Agreed. One of my favorites. Just behind Lie to Me and The Mentalist in the drama catagory.

Yeah no doubt the whole Walken scene was great but when he had to explain to here that it wasn't all the voice was great. This was a very good episode and it was written like a show that is confident it will be back which makes me feel even better about it's prospects, but this HAS to be a fall show otherwise no way it will survive a long time off that would come from a 13 ep order for the spring.

I hope that cliffhanger is just the tip of a deeper story arc for next season. The character introductions have been done to perfection this season. Now we need a reason beyond writing a novel for Castle and Beckett to remain a team.

I also like how they managed to make the prom subplot with Alexis sweet and not cheesey.

Re: Castle - "A Death in the Family" 5/11/09

Hope it gets picked up, as many have said before the relationships and banter make the show what it is. I just hope they, for at least one episode, make the first suspect the bad guy (maybe dismiss the person intially and then come back and find out it really was them). You pretty much know to discount the first suspect or two on every show and I find myself looking for the twist as soon as the first suspect is introduced. Also if there is a Season 2, I hope they do some backstory on the other detectives as well.

I liked the Walken impression, mainly because everyone tries to do one and no matter how bad the impression is, you usually can identify it anyway.

Also as a heads up this being the first week back to having DAncing as the lead-in CAstle did a 7.1 in the overnights which gives it a second place over a new Medium so I really can't see how this show doesn't get picked up.

Damn! I knew we wouldn't find out about her mother's killer but it still sucks not knowing! I hope they renew this. It's no Life, but it's a fun and quirky cop show.

This show has been a great surprise altogether. I will be there next season, if it gets picked up. Castle with the severed head was hilarious!

Re: Castle - "A Death in the Family" 5/11/09

It's surprising to me how well they write the family scenes. The three actors have amazing chemistry, and the stories never go the predictable route. Since she's an actress, you'd think they could write the mother into some of the mysteries. As an aside, it's refreshing in an episode about plastic surgery to see an older actress (Susan Sullivan) not mangle her face beyond recognition. I enjoy looking at her which is more than I can say for her contemporaries who have gone the Joan Van Ark route.

This episode also had both lead characters solving the case instead of Castle coming up with all of the answers. My only quibble with the show is that other detectives are so wan that I still don't even know their names.

It's nice to see that the daughter isn't a cliched spoiled teenaged brat, but has a natural sense of curiousity and doesn't have an air of entitlement.

^ thats part of the charm of the show

the whole family dynamic and the father-daughter interaction

also, the music pumps from begining to end on this show

Castle & Lie To Me are the only new shows i like (Lie to me also has a bit of the father-daughter interaction)

i see a trend

I really liked it too. Hope they bring it back for another season. I think that would be a first for a Nathan Fillion driven show.

"Don't leave town."

You know Castle has been waiting allll season for an excuse to say that.

I really hope this comes back next year, it's now my 2nd favorite show, and NCIS only wins because it's been on longer.

Nice of the writers to leave just enough open (the mother's death) to bring people back, but not leave us completely hanging with a "who died?" problem if it's not renewed.

Hallelujah!! I think the ratings surge the last few weeks helped it out tremendously.

A Nathan Fillion show getting a 2nd season.....who would have thought it?

LOL
