Hey folks,
I've got a Tosh 2200 DVD player (as you may know it has a HDCD and built-in DD decoder chips). It's currently connected to a Pioneer VSX-D498 (not the best reciever around )...
I was wondering if I would get better sound (CD's and DVD's) if I bypassed the Pioneer's DAC and used the Toshiba's DD decoder?
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks!
Patrick

This will work only if your receiver has 6 channel analog inputs, which I doubt yours does.
I also doubt that the decoder in the Pioneer receiver are significantly worse than the one in your dvd player.

Yes, my receiver does have 6 ch inputs. When I bought it a year ago, it was the cheapest DD receiver I could find (most were DD-ready at the time). Anyway, I'm kinda pissed about that purchase, but anyway, I would just assume that the HDCD DAC would be better...
BTW, I tried it last night, and it's hard to tell any difference... but then again, my ears are shot!
