Enemy AI Still Disappoints!!
One of the reasons I was excited about Killzone 2 was the supposedly outstanding enemy AI.
Yet, as I played the game, I couldn't see what the excitement was about. The gameplay feels just like dozens of FPS even ones from years ago.
Sure, the enemy will dunk behind a barrier when you shoot, but often they will rush right at you, a staple of dumb AI behavior. If they dunk, you just way till they pop up their head, and go for the headshot.
I want a cunning enemy whose behavior is reactive to mine. I want an enemy that will play cat and mouse. They run and hide in the shadows, or outflank you and sneak from behind. Behavior that is non-scripted and totally unpredictable. Is this possible with today's technology? I guess most people don't mind dumb enemy AI because there is multiplayer, but I much rather have a great single player experience, and feel like I accomplished something.

at what level are you playing KZ2?
But just think about it, if AI becomes that smart FPSs will be 40 hours long, instead of just 8-10 hours.

It seems like they've perfectly captured the gameplay of the average online player...

Try Army of Two on Professional. Those bastards rarely lift their heads to even give you a chance. They'll blind fire and only poke their heads out if you reload or if you're looking in the other direction.

I've always been freaked out by AI that properly Flanks my position. That's a fairly "new" thing that's popped up over the last 4 or 5 years in gaming isn't it?

But I didn't consider the hardest difficulty setting for Far Cry very realistic at all. I poke my head up over the bushes, then adversaries five miles away spot me instantly and start firing bullets/rockets with deadly accuracy? That's not smart AI. That's just ridiculous!

Re: Enemy AI Still Disappoints!!
Sample sequence:
1) Enemy soldier spots you and begins firing
2) Enemy soldier ducks (dunks) behind a burned out car, occasionally blind firing while calling for backup
3) Enemy uses cover to gain position
4) Enemy begins knitting
5) Enemy starts juggling shell casings
6) Enemy sings only the female parts of "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"
