I just finished the series for the first time, so I was eager to find out more about all the different metaphors. The essays are great for looking at parts of the show from different angles. After I finish this I plan on reading "Five Seasons of Angel".
I'm still working on reading Breaking Dawn, but I took a break and read a couple of graphic novels:
Unmanned Y: The Last Man Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra

Scott Pilgrim Vol. 1: Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life by Bryan Lee O'Malley

Y: The Last Man is pretty amazing. The first volume already ranks among the greatest comic/graphic novels that I have ever read. I'm going to have to blow the rest of my monthly spending money on getting the rest of the volumes now.
Read
The Complete Strangers in Paradise, Volume One - Terry Moore
The Gallic War - Julius Caesar, Translation and Introduction by Carolyn Hammond
Maus: A Survivor's Tale II - And Here My Troubles Began - Art Spiegelman
Wait Till Next Year: A Memoir - Doris Kearns Goodwin

What did you think? I read that for the first time a couple months back and thought it was great.
Oh man, not to deter you, but I HATED Sharp Objects.

Without going into spoiler-y details, what didn't you like?
I read a decent review of her new book, and I saw this one at the library so I snagged it. Haven't cracked it open yet...

I have been tearing my way through the Kim Harrison series. Right now I am on the newest one: White Witch, Black Curse.
I think it is a pretty good series. If you like the Laurell K. Hamilton books or the Jim Butcher books (particularly the Harry Dresden series) these are very much in the same vein. They don't have all the sex that LKH has in her books so if that was a put-off for you it might be worthwhile to scope these out.

Recently finished reading The Brass Verdict (Michael Connelly) and listening to Cell (Stephen King). Cell had a really great narrator.
This has been on my radar for a while, but I haven't picked it up yet because of the backlog of reading I still have. I'd be interested to hear what you thought of it.
Tell me about this. I have not seen this book but am mildly obsessed with game theory stuff.

Was that your first time with Angels & Demons?
Second time. I read it a few years ago and couldn't remember much about it so I wanted a refresher before the movie came out. Surprisingly, it was a very quick read, probably because I read it before. Things get pretty convoluted at the end, but I enjoyed the majority of the book (moreso than The Da Vinci Code).

I agree with you about A&D being superior to DVC. I plan to re-read both this year.

The first 400 pages are very good, but the last 90 or so are a big disappointment.
Just finishing up with:

Can't wait to start the new Preston & Child book on Tuesday (when it's released in Canada). They're my favourite pop fiction authors going today and rarely disappoint (even if I'd rather have a non-Pendergast book at this point, but their solo stuff delivers that!)

Gave up on Pygmy for now because I just can't make it through with that writing style. If I start to hear some positive reviews, I might try again, but for now I am moving on to some other books.
