Like anyone is going to care about these movies after Wolverine opens next weekend, it sucks about Crank, but maybe that means we will get on bluray faster.

Well it's not like there are a lot of options... this is the dumping grounds before summer starts next wknd. Is Wolverine opening on Wed or Fri?

And "Star Trek"! Which is currently at 100% on RT. I'm not even a trekkie but I'm very excited about that one. But yeah, bring on the summer movies. I'm so disgusted with the money "Obsessed" made. Also, yes, bring on "Crank: High Voltage" to BD.

If those numbers hold Fast & Furious will have overtaken the original Sunday to become the highest grosser in the franchise.

I was going to say Crank wasn't doing that badly, but now I see these are weekend estimates and not Friday estimates. :\

This generations Fatal Attraction. Done.

Good numbers for Fighting.

Well, I'm hearing it be referred to that a lot in reviews. Although not a good comparison. As trashy as "Fatal Attraction" was, it got fairly good reviews. And a few Oscar nominations. I'm putting money down now that "Obssessed" sweeps the Razzies.

Its been interesting this year watching movies that by all accounts should have gone straight-to-dvd burn up the box office charts and break recods.
Paul Blartt, Taken , the tyler perry shit, and now obsessed.
Thats right America give yourself a pat on the back. you should feel proud.

"Taken" is not a great film by any stretch. Guilty pleasure, sure. One of those "popcorn" movies, yes. But it wasn't a critically acclaimed either. Just to be clear.

I don't see how people are surprised week after week about box office takes for certain movies. Obsessed being number 1 isn't a big surprise to me, given the marketing for it and trailers everywhere.

No surprise.

Next week begins the usual 10 page long weekend box office threads. Glad summer movie season is here, but I'm still not thrilled about the selection we got going this year.

Yesterday I came on here looking to see if there was a thread for Fighting. saw it yesterday...what a pussy of a movie. I do not recommend anyone seeing it.

Taken is a great movie. It's an unapologetic throwback to the Bronson/McQueen/Marvin style of "take-no-prisoners" film.

Don't make me start back up on Paul Blart again!

It makes me sad that Paul Blart is now only the 3rd highest grossing movie this year :(

Awwwwe get off your High Horse . People are looking for escape type films right now with all shit going on what with the economy, Swine Flu, and all. :p

So what these films made tons of dough. Who cares. Did it hurt you in any way? Did their success cause you any inconveniences? Did they steal Box Office from your recently released film? No. So let people like what they like and leave them be.

I saw OBSESSED this weekend with a friend and I went in knowing full well it would be a Bullshit predictable film and you know what? It turned out to be even better than that! It was TOTAL CAMP fun! I laughed throughout the whole film and had a blast!

Mark my words, they'll be showing OBSESSED at Midnight on Fridays in movie houses in 10 or 15 years.

The question is not why are people seeing these movies - it is: are there 'good' movies being held down because of this (perceived) 'crap'? Something's gotta finish first, right? A lot of people just go to the movies on a weekend regardless and figure it out when they get there, or choose the lesser of the evils.

On a side note - I only heard the ad for Crank 2 when it came on TV... and it was about Statham keeping his heart on.... it sounded a bit different from the other room! Then I thought... well I think we have the premise for Crank 3! :)

Agree every week the same people whine when this movie or that movie makes money...or one doesn't. You think they would get over it by now.

Exactly. I can understand if your favorite movie doesn't make the money you were hoping for, in terms of notoriety, sequel chances, etc. but to bash whatever is #1 just because is silly.

With that said Wolverine better kick ass this week :)

Well, no surprise here. I knew people would eat shit like Obsessed right up. That's ok, because next week it's going to sink big time. Wolverine will eat up most of the b.o. and Matt McConaughey's new chick flick trash will pick up the scraps.

I don't think the leak will matter. Of course, if it does poorly, they'll have that excuse, but anyone who thinks because a rough cut was leaked will stop it from making a nice opening weekend for Fox is only foolin' themselves. It should make more money in one weekend than Australia's total US box office.

Mark my words, Wolverine will do more than $70 million next weekend. It's summer movie season and only nerds and virgins downloaded the workprint.
