What kind of deals do you think we can expect in the coming weeks on Star Trek DVDs?
This can be a rolling thread as they inevitably pop-up, but anyone know what to expect? Perhaps an Amazon Goldbox DOTD in the coming weeks?

I'm just hoping they release a new box set soon, at least when the DVD hits, if not sooner. I can't seem to find any stores that carry the movie box set any longer.

The 10 movie box set that was around $30 at FYE last year and about $60 almost everywher else is now going for nearly $200 on eBAY. I wonder if all the 2 disk movies are now OOP awaiting a rerelease.

I saw next week's Best Buy ad scan at slickdeals and it shows Star Trek: Season 1 on blu-ray for $64.99.

Amazon has now matched this price if you want to save yourself a few bucks in sales tax!

$65?! That seems so expensive nowadays. Even for BluRay. Remember when it was >$100/season?
My favorite bargain was getting those sets through Columbia House when you could glitch the system and sign up with any DVD for your promotional DVD's. I think I ended getting them for <$20.

Amazon has lower all ST seasons series to the mid 30's range. Still too high for me, but you can get all 7 seasons of Voyager for $259!

Ditto. Saw a bunch of used seasons a couple of weeks ago, and only picked up season 2 of TNG. I am still kicking myself.

I really wish that The Next Generation sets would finally get a price drop. $250 is still pretty high in my opinion for the complete series considering how long ago the TNG sets were released originally.

I know this doesn't help you right now, but about 3 weeks ago, Columbia House had a deal going and I picked up the entire Next Generation Series, the new one that came out last year, for $152 shipped. They run these deals frequently so if you are not a member, it may benefit you to join.

Ah cool thanks man. I actually am a member of Columbia House but I must have missed that deal. I'll have to keep a look out for a deal similar.

Apparently the 2 diskers are now OOP, but check your local FYE store(s) as I picked up a couple on sale for $5.99 each! I kick myself for not picking up the movie box set for that cheap when I had a chance... I have seen nothing on any re-releases yet, probably later this year when the new one comes out on DVD.

That makes sense. First Contact and Nemesis are 5.99 on fye.com so I assume all of the movies are that price in store. Those were the only ones I found online. They also had the original 1-disc release of Generations for 8.99

I can never remember whether I have all the 2 discers or not. I should check that, and get the last ones that I need before they dissappear.

For ST: II thru VI, is there any reason to keep the SD's, or will all of the content be on the BD's? Anyone know?

This brings up a question. Are many of you doing this, selling off your DVDs once you buy the corresponding blu-ray?
I'm not even considering it at the moment. My blu-rays can be played in one place I have access to, one room of my house. My DVDs can be played anywhere on the planet (player already in most homes/rooms, then there are all the laptops and portable players). Until blu-ray players reach at least somewhat a close saturation point, I have no plans to give away my DVDs. I'm quite the homebody, but I still end up watching almost half my discs at places other than my living room.

You raise a valid point, but as someone who has thousands of DVD's, I need to consolidate. I'm getting rid of the SD's, except for when they have extra features not on the BD. In many cases, my SD's are still sealed, meaning I can get rid of them for a decent price. I'm "trying" to upgrade only those titles which are still sealed, with exception to some of my absolutely favorite films. But I won't get rid of an SD for just a buck or two. It wouldn't be worth my time...

Go here for a complete film by film comparison breakdown of contents:
Basically, the Blu-ray Discs will NOT have everything EXACTLY as it was on the 2-disc SE DVDs...
However, for ST:3, 4, and 5 it will be 99% the same (the info from the text commentaries are now supposed to be incorporated into the "Library Computer" special feature, which looks to be similar to the "Starfleet Access" PiP track currently seen on the BD of ST:TOS S1).....
With ST:2 and 6, the DVDs have extended cuts of the films, while the BDs will only feature the theatrical cuts....so you would lose not only that footage, but the commentary tracks specific to it as well....plus any info related to the extended footage found in the text commentary...one last difference for part 6: the DVD has the director's modified 2:1 aspect ratio while the BD will have the original theatrical 2.35:1 presentation.....
I'd say, bottom line, if you really want to sell off anything, only sell 3, 4, and 5....though if you are a hardcore completist, you may want to even keep those if you want the text commentaries in their original form....

actually star trek 2 and star trek 6 still have there comentary tracks entacted from the dvd version. the only one that doesnt include the original track is the motion picture, becuse the theatrical version is radiclly different from the directors cut.
personally i think having star trek 6 for the first time in its OAR trumps the scooby doo ending of the prior home video extended cutGo here for a complete film by film comparison breakdown of contents:

I never said that 2 and 6 would not carry over their DVD commentary tracks...re-read my post...I said that since the DVDs feature extended cuts, but the Blu-ray Discs only have the theatrical cuts, then you would lose not only the extended footage, but the commentary specific with said footage....the commentary on the Blu-ray Discs for 2 and 6 ported from their DVDs was edited as it was originally made for a longer cut of the film, and therefore the portions of the commentary in the extended cut specific footage must be removed....

BarnesandNoble.com has em B2G1F right now, but the 20% off coupon ended last night. Would have been $38.35 each for non-members. If you are a member there is still a 15% off coupon. With membership they would be 37.73 each right now...
