Thanks for the alert! The titles I checked from my archived wish list show prices that are ~$.75 less than during a 25% off sale, plus I don't recall ever seeing any of these titles in a B1G1 sale before. I'd told myself that I wasn't making any more purchases for a month or so because of all I've purchased recently, but some of these sets/prices are making that resolve a bit unstable.

I'd told myself that I wasn't making any more purchases for a month or so because of all I've purchased recently, but some of these sets/prices are making that resolve a bit unstable.
A lot of these titles are from "Acorn Media" who tend to overprice their stuff. I also have never seen their sets in B1G1 sales--unlike A&E or BBC marketed British titles.

"Sleepers" is a very funny show that I'm going to be ordering: Two Soviet sleeper agents in the UK are accidentally rediscovered after a quarter century hiding in plain sight and no way do they want to go back to the USSR. The 4-part miniseries follows their misadventures, with the KGB, CIA and MI5 hot on their trail.
"Two Fat Ladies" is my all-time favorite cooking show (even more so than Julia Child). Two fat British ladies tool around the countryside on motorcycle and sidecar, cooking meals for various groups--cricket team, Welsh mens choir, field hockey team at a girls school, the priests of Westminster Cathedral, barristers etc. Funny and sweet. Also, an unashamed celebration of meat, meat, meat. If you like cooking shows and haven't seen it, you're in for a treat.

That title is distributed by "BBC/Warner" as is "Black Adder" and "Keeping up Appearances". All the ones in this sale are from "Acorn Media".
A lot of these titles are from "Acorn Media" who tend to overprice their stuff. I also have never seen their sets in B1G1 sales--unlike A&E or BBC marketed British titles.
It's not just Acorn Media who overprices. A&E and BBC/Warner are just as guilty. It seems that just because it is a British title the price is double to triple what it *should* be. The British titles are usually *on sale* for $2-3/episode where that is the "normal" price for a US title. Even then, it's not often that you can pick up any of the A&E or BBC/Warner titles for what would be considered a decent (but not great) sale price on any US title. That is, ~$1/episode for an hour series or ~$.50/episode for a half-hour series. I'm just glad I can get a few of these now and not need to wait for one of the bi-annual sales. Makes it easier to spread things out a bit.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is one of the best mini series ever made by anyone, not just the Brits. If you like spy/mystery shows, that one is a must.

They're not all Acorn Media, there are a few BFS titles in there too, such as Crime Traveller.
I agree with BobO'Link about prices. Remember when A&E would charge $100 for a 5-disc set? And if you think Acorn Media USA is bad, you should see how much Acorn Media UK charges for some of their titles. One example is Father Brown, which came out in the UK in 2003 with its 13 episodes spread out onto three two-disc sets. Each set retails for £25, even today according to Amazon UK.

I'm a junkie for BBC/Masterpiece versions of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell, Agatha Christie, etc. I end up spending most of my DVD budget on them because you hardly ever find them cheap anywhere. I've gotten lucky a couple of times at Big Lots. Columbia House has a very limited selection, and they consider them sets so no free shipping, etc.
What sucks is these companies (Acorn, A&E, BBC, WGBH, etc.) often put out discs with poor quality video and audio (no remastering and non-anamorphic or full frame versions of original widescreen programs) and no extras at all, and then list them at $30 for a 90 minute program.
BTW, if what you want is not in the Deep Discount sale and you have a Borders nearby, they have 50% off most DVDs now. I got a few of these "British" titles at ok prices there--their list prices can be higher than most other places.
