For a movie that opened with $70 million, has been despised by critics, and is a third sequel, I think it's impressive that F&F will only lose half of its audience.

Seriously. I dug the movie; but it blows my mind that a movie of that nature would cost $30 million. I thought it had a budget of around $10-15 million; does Rogen really cost that much? IMDB says $25 million, that sounds slightly more believable.
Hannah Montana is now at $17 million for Friday, meaning it's gonna blow way past that estimated $35 million Boxoffice.com predicted. I was expecting a $40 million weekend on it despite the fact Jonas Brothers was a disappointment financially.
No surprise Fast and Furious is getting a huge drop. Everybody knew it was front loaded, just that nobody expected a $70 million opening weekend. Regardless, Universal is looking at it as a success.

Decent #'s for Observe, although I had hoped it would open around $23m, I knew it wouldn't catch on with audiences too much. As much as I despise this Hannah Montana crap, you can't compare it to Jonas Bros. She's obviously got a WAY bigger following. Those are impressive #'s for a film like that.

The Observe & Report number is about what Zack & Miri did, which was also estimated at about $20 million in early predictions. I think it's just a case where everyone thinks any Seth Rogen movie will do Knocked Up/Superbad numbers which is just not the case.
I just feel Seth Rogen is over-exposed. I've liked almost everything he has been in/done but he just seems to be in almost every comedy out there. I want to see Observe & Report but with exams and such it will probably be out of theatres by the time I have the time to see it.
Fast & Furious I think had the release timed perfectly. Long enough after Watchmen but a few weeks before any real action competition opens up.
Fox is just so unpredictable now. They had a really big dry spell between big hits and looked like they were off to a good start with Taken but their is no chance they will make back what they put into Dragonball. The movie had an inexplicably huge budget and is coming too late to capitalize on it's popularity (the time for that would have been late 90s/early 2000s) and too early to capitalize on grown-ups wanting to see it for nostalgia purposes.

Well, it was down 60%, but not bad given it made $30m more than what most predicted in its OW. Not sure why Boxoffice.com predicted it would make $40m this weekend, though. The larger the opening, the bigger the drop and add that it's a sequel so it was already going to be frontloaded...

I would like to see "Observe and Report" to do at least 50M. It could be my favorite Seth Rogen film. And yes, he's getting too much exposure.

You've probably heard the news that Fox is already hard at work whipping some remedial second grade English class into writing the script for a Dragonball movie sequel, so let me clarify -- Fox isn't just "working" on a sequel, there's going to be one. No, nothing's announced. But now that reports have surfaced that the budget for the movie was only $45 million -- I feel safe in saying that there's a 100% of more Dragonball movies being made.
Let me clarify some more. The reported budget for the Dragonball movie was $100 million -- a lot, but small change compared to most potential summer blockbusters. Despite the fact that the report of DB's new budget comes from Chile, I think anyone who has seen a clip of the flick will admit that there's no way $100 million was spent on the film, even if the entire cast and crew were getting serviced by solid-gold prostitutes after every take.
The point is that if Dragonball's budget was only $45 mil, it's already made a profit. The film has grossed more than $50 mil in Asia, despite the fact that everyone there hates it. No one in America could see it, and the movie still be a success for Fox, even if not as large a success as they hoped.
Now here's the interesting part: theoretically, another Dragonball movie might be good. Chances are they'd move to DBZ material, which has been far more successful and has a bigger international fanbase than DB. Plus, the "writer" of the first movie was some hack with virtually no experience, who was hired as a scab during the writer's strike. There's a decent possibility of Fox hiring a real writer for any future installments, meaning that future DB movie scripts wouldn't be the stupidest things ever. Possibly.
So really, the interesting thing is I'm a moron for even daring to hope about a Dragonball movie that isn't utter shit. And now I've depressed myself. Let's move on. (Via DBtheMovie)

I hate to come to this movie's defense, but...

Some numbers:
* Ranked by selected day. Click on the day at the top of the chart to sort by that day.
Just a reminder that Friday was a holiday for a lot of public schools. And I have no idea where people got the $100m budget number for Dragon ball, that movie has "moderate" budget written all over it.

On a side-note; what's interesting is that Monsters vs. Aliens might have literally no-drop from it's second weekend to it's third weekend. Maybe even a gain. Didn't notice that until now.
Comparing itself to last weekend, it made $1 million more this Friday than the last Friday.

It won't make as much on Saturday I don't think, Friday being a holiday and all makes the Friday-to-Friday comparison a bit off.

Sunday (being the actual holiday - I would never consider Good Friday a "holiday") is where everything may sink.

I don't think so. Family movies always make more on Saturdays as children don't have school. I know this weekend is a little bit off (most had spring break this week); but I still think Hannah Montana and Monsters vs. Aliens will pull in a little bit more today than yesterday.

A lot of kids weren't in school on Friday (and no, I don't mean for Spring Break -- which was in March for most schools) so the typical gain from Friday to Saturday will be skewed.
What I mean to say is while Friday was $1m higher than Last Friday, Saturday won't be higher than last Saturday for MvA. The Saturday gain over Friday is generally due to the fact that kids are in school on Friday and can't get to the afternoon showings they would normally attend. Not the case this weekend.

I wonder if all those late in the week articles about 'Observe & Report' having a date rape scene hurt it.
F&F is hardly running out of gas. $28 million on Friday alone? Whole lotta movies would kill for that.
