DVD Talk review of 'Pillow Talk - 50th Anniversary Edition'

I read Paul Mavis's DVD review of Pillow Talk - 50th Anniversary Edition at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=36906 and...Could not agree more regarding commentary tracks. My Man Godfrey, Boomerang, and others were just ruined for me once I foolishly listened. Too bad, these things could be, and sometimes are, illuminating and fun. The best, most informed work, seems to come from Rudy Behlmer.

I enjoyed Paul Mavis' 50th anniversary Pillow Talk review and will buy this edition, despite the fact that he didn't mention my favorite character actress Thelma Ritter who got a supporting Oscar nod for her hilarious performance in this comedy.

You know, I should have discussed her performance -- you're right. But I guess I just figured that most movie fans already know that she never gave a bad performance in her life (I actually think she tops Pillow Talk with a similar turn in Boeing-Boeing, where she gets a lot more screen time). But don't listen to that commentary track; the "historians" on it say her alcoholic character would be "tragic" in real life -- what "real life" has to do with movies, I'll never know.

Wait, are you telling me that films like Arthur and The Thin Man aren't scathing documentaries on alcoholism?

Jokes like that are just part of the problem, Mr. Enabler.
