George Lucas film 'Red Tails' gets green light
George Lucas has turned his attentions from "Star Wars" to World War II and an all-star cast for his next film project, "Red Tails."
Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr., Oscar-nominee Terrence Howard, Method Man, Ne-Yo, and "90210" star Tristan Wilds have all been announced for the WWII drama, about the first African-American aerial combat unit.
"I've been wanting to do "Red Tails" for 20 years," admits Lucas, who will executive produce through his own company, Lucasfilm, with Anthony Hemingway set to direct.
The stellar ensemble cast will play the heroic Tuskegee Airmen, elite fighter-pilots who overcame racial prejudice in the U.S. military to form the celebrated 332nd Fighter Group, who successfully flew deep into German-occupied Europe during WWII.
With a screenplay by John Ridley, who also penned "Three Kings", Lucas is now focusing on special effects to bring the story to life as he prepares to begin filming in Europe this spring.
"We're working on techniques which will give us the first true look at the aerial dogfighting of the era," he promises. "And our top-notch cast will really make this story special." No release date has yet been announced.

It's never good when Goodding is the lead actor in any project.

I just saw the cast list. Shit ton of actors from The Wire.

On one hand, the screenplay is not by Lucas, which may be a good thing. But is he going to shoot the whole thing in front of a greenscreen?

I'd be surprised if something by George Lucas didn't get Green-Lit.
It will be both strange and refreshing to see a non-Star Wars movie from Lucas.
Hopefully it'll be good or else we'll be stuck hearing African-American WWII Veterans on the boards complaining that Lucas raped their young adulthood...

I hope we don't have a debate 20 years from now, "I want the version where Cuba Gooding shoots first!"

Great news tho I'm very disappointed Lucas isn't directing. I remember articles from way back with him saying how much he wanted to make this film. Lucas being Lucas tho, I'm sure he'll have more control over this film than Hemingway will.
I'm definitely looking forward to this!

Well, the teaser trailer has finally been released. Looks really good, except for some of the dialogue. But since Lucas didn't write the script, I don't guess we can't blame that on him. Although I'm sure many will. Then again, there's nothing in there like some of the prequel trilogy's dialogue.

I can't find an official source. But I haven't checked Lucasfilm.

For some reason I thought this already came out and was awaiting the BD announcement so I could rent it.

If that trailer was any more self-righteous, it'd sprout a wings and a halo and fly straight up to heaven without so much as a by-your-leave.

LOL! I knew some would have a problem with that. I don't considering the event, the inherent racism during that time, and it's extremely patriotic nature. Personally, it doesn't look any more self-righteous than The Tuskegee Airmen HBO film, and I thought that was quite good. Whether this will live up to that, who knows.

Is anyone as shocked as I am that George would start on the effects before filming?

That looks pretty good. I'm a sucker for WW II action flicks.
Most importantly, Cuba Gooding Jr is finally in an A-list production!!

I won't bother seeing this in the theater. I will however pick up the 10th anniversary special edition blu-ray where all the African American pilots are replaced by Ewoks.

A story by Lucas still get some excited. Although judging by the trailer I'm not sure this will be any better than Pearl Harbor or Flyboys.
I've got my hopes up though...
