Finally, Discovery gets good

I've pretty much stopped watching Discovery because it's been an endless rotation of 'Dirty Jobs,' 'Mythbusters' and 'Man vs. Wild,' none of which I liked.

But now we got some cool new shows. First up is the return of 'Deadliest Catch.' Second is 'Doing Da Vinci,' where a group will build the many machines Leonardo designed and see how well they work. Finally there's 'Pitchmen,' featuring BILLY MAYS and Antony Sullivan.

Hope they keep it up. I've had enough of blowing up, throwing up and getting lost.

You don't like Mythbusters? What is wrong with you?

Another good one to check out is Time Warp; lots of really cool slo-mo photography.

Deadliest Catch always looked boring, Myth Busters is good, Time Warp, Doing Da Vinci sounds entertaining.

I know this is season 5. But other than one weekend marathon, it's been off the air since its run ended last summer. It certainly doesn't get the constant repeats of Mythbusters or MvW.

If Kari hosted the show, solo, I might watch. After a while it gets old. It's 10% intro to the myth, 80% drawn out build up with Adam acting like a fool, and 10% resolution. Boring.

I have seen Time Warp, it's pretty cool.

Be better if they didn't make up their own myths just to have shit to be on the show. Show was better the first season or so. Once they started having fill in people do myths it sucks.

I liked the show alot more before the behind the scenes episode, that just showed Adam to be an attention grubbing camera hog.

I basically just wait for Shark Week. Tho I have been catching Top Sniper repeats on the Military Channel. That's some sick shooting.

By the way, the new Mythbusters season starts this Wednesday with a 2-hour special.

Re: Finally, Discovery gets good

I still like Mythbusters, and Dirty Jobs but will admit they are not what they were before. I hate man vs Wild but Survivorman I do like and is much more enjoyable.

Time Warp has been hit or miss IMHO. Some of them are really interesting to see (what's really fun are the times when they overlap w/ something like Mythbusters ) others are more "why bother". Haven't heard of the Da Vinci I'll have to look that up.

Re: Finally, Discovery gets good

All shows get spoiled. The first season of Deadliest Catch was very informative and real. Last season was like a bad soap opera with an awful lot of playing to the camera and behavior that I doubt would take place if a camera wasn't there. Ice Road Truckers is headed in that direction, too, and Ax Men is so bad it's like 'Some Kind of Monster' with chainsaws. What a bunch of babies.

Re: Finally, Discovery gets good

This channel never lived up to the promise. It seems like it's going to be an educational, no bullshit channel where you can actually learn something, but then you watch it and it has the quality and tone of a supermarket tabloid...no thanks.

Still 1000x better than the "History Channel" though.

Re: Finally, Discovery gets good

I loved Dirty Jobs for a while, but watching so many eps I just had my fill of Mike dealing with poo. Still a decent show to watch every now and again, but like most Discovery shows, you can only watch so much.

Pitchmen is great. Since a lot of us here tend to enjoy infomercials and Billy Mays, it's perfect. Check it out.

Re: Finally, Discovery gets good

I could tune into any episode of Deadliest Catch it it will be like any other. There's nothing more refreshing than 45 minutes of pulling up pods of crab. The only things that change: one or two men overboard that isn't caught on film;the season opener where they shop at Sams Club and the season ender where they unload the hull. How many more seasons can they run that crap?

Re: Finally, Discovery gets good

I love Mythbusters & Time Warp. They need to do another Weapons of Malice show. That was strangely entertaining and very disturbing. I need to set the Tivo for the DaVinci thing.

Anyone here watch anything on the Science Channel? I caught part of a cars of the future special tonight. It was pretty solid. A team of designers are trying to come up with the first car for the 'I' Generation. 'I' I for the first generation born since the Internet age.
