Wow. That is pretty impressive for a frachise in it's 4th run. That's the 21st highest opening day of all-time. I guess everyone that wanted a #5 will get their wish.

jesus. 30 million for that shit? alone, paul walker and vin diesel can't even make a movie, but in this franchise it's like printing money.

Will Warner Bros. Consider Watchmen a flop because it didn't have numbers like 300 or is it just a modest success that will be profitable after it comes to dvd.

I'm kind of indifferent to Watchmen's overall result.

It's already been proven that 1) Literal interpretations of comic books can be successful (300 (also WB), Sin City) and 2) Dark and "heavy" comic book movies can be made (The Dark Knight). WB having a one off that is slightly less than successful isn't going to change a thing (not saying anyone was suggesting that it would).

Most estimated the film to do $30-40 million this weekend. I love that it did it in one day.

Never underestimate the drawing power of Vin Walker.

It's really not that bad. It's per theatre average would rank #3 behind Fast and Furious and MvA.

I have yet to see it but word of mouth has been good, it might have strong legs.

I agree, it not the Godfather, but I thought it was damn good entertainment. Still I am stunned it made that much on opening day. The theater me and my son went to was actually about 3/4 at a matinee showing.

You may want to re-read the top ten.

Haunting in Connecticut and Sunshine Cleaning have higher PSAs than it; making Adventureland number five in terms of the average.

I think it'll have legs and strong WOM; but after this opening, I can't see it doing more than $20 million domestically. It'll do gangbusters on video, but it's time to make money is not right now. It's core audience (myself) all went to see Fast & Furious first.

Watchman isn't "slightly less than successful," it's a huge flop, but I agree that Hollywood won't forget The Dark Knight that easily.

Watchmen was a gamble. It was tailor made for the fans of it and its showing.

Watchmen isn't a flop. I don't think any movie not released during the summer that makes $100 million is a disappointment.

I would say it's more of a disappointment than it is a flop. While it grossed $100 million plus; Warner was expecting 300-like numbers (especially considering it's $120-130 million budget).

It'll clear a profit when Warner releases the numerous versions of it to video; but I think it's clear to say that people were expecting it to do a lot more.

I thought the final product was great; but then again, I'm not the majority.

Re: Box Office 4/3/09 - 4/5/09 - Fast & Furious box office leaves no room for Adventu

the movie was alittle long but it was good...

Fast and Furious was alot of fun...which is what it was intended to be. If you were expecting an oscar worthy performance, then you were dumb. Smart move in bring it up early instead of the summer, it leaves them alone for 3 weeks until Star Trek begins the summer movie season
