Big Love #34 "Sacrement" (Season 3 Finale) 3/22/09
It's been a far too short, but phenomenal season. I expect some serious shit to go down tonight.

And BTW, there's a finale special of 20% off until 3/23 on Big Love, Flight of the Conchords and Eastbound and Down items in the HBO store, for those of you dying for your own Weber Gaming t-shirt.

Us folk are quick on the draw hereabouts.
Nikki's ex would make a great foil next season; I'm hoping the writers phase him into the main Grant/Hendrickson struggle.

It certainly appears that J.J. will be a major figure in season 4 since Ivanek did very little this season. There has to be a reason why they hired him.
I figured something like this would happen to Roman eventually. How long could they rely on Harry Dean Stanton being around or mobile? Better to tie it into a storyline than to lose him in some other way.
I wonder if we were supposed to notice that Teeny wasn't there at the end. Really, where could she be? It was established earlier this year that she has no friends because she's a bad influence.
Season 4 can't get here fast enough.

Loved it.
Really liked Nikki's daughter, and taking her away from the compound and the glory book, or whatever it's called.
Bill had a lot going on this ep, the greens were great as usual, and he saw the weak link in Selma. I'll miss Roman, and I hope and am sure that Albie will survive.
I actually thought while watching it that his mom would have blown herself up with the propane she was using to light the stove. Nice work writers on that
Margene's little sales thing seemed to go well, but I don't get a good vibe out of the lady 'coaching' her.
What a season of a show. Phenomenal.

Awesome, awesome season but it was entirely too shot. Although it is the only show I watch that crams what seems like 2 hours worth of material into a 1 hour timeslot. Countless weeks I've checked the DVR cause I figure it must be right at the end and there's still 15-20 minutes left.
The A-holes at EW long ago teased, without any sort of a spoiler warning, that there would be two deaths on Big Love and that one of them would be BIG, so I sort of was watching this episode with my eyes covered a bit. Albie? Adaleen? Nikki (God forbid)? The Nikki one really worried me because I've read how Chloe Sevigny hates playing Nikki (she sees her as a bitch only and that's boring to play). I didn't really think that she'd be offed, but you never know, I guess.
The end felt pretty right there. It opens all sorts of intrigue for next season, though I do wonder about Margene -- she doesn't seem like the type to keep a successful appearance on HSN a secret. That was a little odd and out of character. Overall, though an outstanding end to an outstanding season. I HOPE the Emmys will finally at least throw this show some nominations, it's beyond absurd that it's been completely shut out so far.

Great end to a great season... Hopefully next season we'll see more of the Greene's as the villians and JJ as well. Can't wait!

Albie is awesome. I love him..
I'm laughing at him and his wife making a letter bomb at home though. the protective glasses would really help you know if it blows up in your face.

Wow what a fantastic finale! I was glad to see Roman finally get his, though near the end I was thinking that Albie and his wife had actually made a 2nd bomb that he was going to find. I was glad to see that it was Joey that did the deed though, but you know that it's going to haunt him next season.
at everyone running from the big house when they heard Roman was coming back!
I have to say I like Nikki's daughter, it seems she's managed to keep her wits about her despite living on a compound all her life, and can't wait to get away from all that.
It was great to see Margie find something she's good at and loves, but I also don't get a good vibe from the lady she is working for.
I was a bit confused about how the whole taking down Selma thing went at the end but I think I finally figured it out. I was wondering why Bill was telling Roman the whole thing was a trap and then switched cars, but now I see how far ahead he was thinking, placing what's his name in place to warn the FBI when Selma had left the area.
I thought it was a nice touch with Sarah looking uncomfortable during the ceremony at the end.
Lots of potential plot threads next season:
I think the Hollis Greene (and that creepy goon of his) will be the new heel with the departure of Roman. Does he even know yet that the letter was faked?
J.J. will certainly come back considering that Nikki basically kidnapped his daughter.
Joey's murdering Roman will be a season long plot thread. Bill's going to know Joey did it as soon as he hears Roman is dead.
Have Bill's problems with the FBI and obstruction of justice really gone away?
Will Bill finally get his casino off the ground?
Has Sarah finally found happiness? Will season 4 end with a wedding?
It's gonna be a LOOONG wait!

Something else: There's now a power vacuum at Juniper Creek... who's going to take over? The new Church of Bill?

Credit to Don. Bill was supposed to text him when Selma was leaving, but he went with it, and called the cops.
Selma sang loud and fast.

This was one of the greatest season's of a television show ever, at least that I've seen.
It's sad to see Roman go, he's such a great foil, but I like how he came to his end. I agree with everyone else, that J.J. is going to be the "big bad" for next year. They've been really mysterious about why Nikki is so terrified of him, and now that she's taken his daughter, he's surely going to be out to get her.
Outside of that, who the hell knows what's going to happen next season. So much shit was thrown up in the air in these last 4 episodes, that it can be anyone's guess.

So, with regards to Sara and Scott, what is it that they aren't telling regarding Scott not being around during Sara's pregnancy? The scene at the beginning in the park made me think he had a baby with a different woman, but I would think Sara would have a big problem with that.

I thought Joey was going to shoot himself in front of Roman. He seemed very depressed. Due to a spoiler I had read I knew someone was going to die. I was really surprised (and disappointed) to find out it was Roman.

So much happened this season that I don't see how they can even approach topping it next season. In terms of character and plot, this show is second only to The Wire and blows everything else away.
