Killzone 2 in fifth? Really? wow! Wasn't it supposed to have 1 million preorders, and I think 3 million worldwide or something like that.

Re: February 2009 NPD Data

OK, I just saw that it was on sale for only 2 days in February. But I'd guess most of the sales were in first days.

The close number of PS3 sales is impressive, probably because of all the D-Pad complaints with the 360 and groups of people opting for the PS3 version. I know I have two friends that opted for the PS3 version.

Well if it did a million pre-orders then it would be on here since those would be picked up the first few days.

Perhaps this is appropriate here:

According to VGChartz...Killzone 2 now sits at 595,000

And in some sad news:

MLB 09 The Show 123,000
MLB 2K9 (360) 172,000

I still can't believe the PS2 is selling that many units at $130. I've been waiting for them to discount the thing so I can pick up an extra one!

And exactly from what does the PS3 needs to be saved?

Killzone 2 has 1,156,944 in 2 weeks and 2 days

I know this is kind of just bait given your posts in the other thread, but obviously the answer would be from being last in the current gen console race.

Sorry if my post on that other thread did not suit your taste, but it was my opinion and I stand by it.

As for the PS3 being in "last place", last place in what? sales? If you get an average of consoles sold per month since each console's launch you'll see that this is not the case, and again, it is my opinion that the PS3's future looks a lot healthier than that of both the 360 and the Wii.
Heck, the Wii shouldn't even be compared alongside the 360 and the PS3. It's jut a glorified, gimmick full gamecube.
Even the PS2 gives it a run for it's money. I've yet to see an awesome game like God of War 2 on the Wii, both graphics and gameplay wise.

Why shouldn't the Wii be compared alongside the 360 and PS3? Just because it's not as technologically capable as the other systems, doesn't mean that it shouldn't be compared to those other systems. The fact of the matter is, the Wii is a different type of console, that accomplishes something the other two don't. It has great games of its own, regardless of what you think. It's also the leader in this generation, far outselling the PS3, for example, despite the fact that it is not the cheapest of the systems, anymore. The numbers prove it, and the software totals prove it. Call it a gimmick all you want, it's a system people enjoy, and is doing very well.

Sure, worldwide. But the PS3 really hasn't been gaining ground, just remaining steady since the PS3 always leads in Japan but the 360 continues to sell more in the US on a monthly basis (outside of a handful of months). There's no reason to eliminate the sales from the 360's one year head start in my opinion since the PS3 hasn't shown that it's making up that difference any time soon.

That said, the picture is mocking more the folks that have kept saying that each up and coming game was going to be the next big thing that draws more buyers to the PS3, and it hasn't really happened.

Re: February 2009 NPD Data

I don't think any of the 3 should be compared to each other as they are all very different machines capable of very different uses and at different price points.

I can accept someone comparing Wonder Bread white bread to Butternut white bread
but I don't think it makes sense to compare sales of white bread to rye bread to wheat bread and treat it like it is some type of "race"

Well, I don't have any links to back up my claims, but I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of 360s sold are $199.00 arcades, and when you consider that the lowest price point for the PS3 is 2 times that, people are spending MORE money on PS3s than on 360s. You should also consider many of those 360 sales are from people that already got one and it crapped out on them thus there are multiple consoles for single users.

I also think that with the rumored upcoming price cut on the PS3 it is really going to take off.

It's the nature of the industry I think the SNES/Genesis really got it going and there's always a comparison with each ensuing generation. That and I don't think the 360 and PS3 are that different as far as what they offer.

I don't see how the price point matters, other then it being tough beans for Sony that it costs so much to manufacture the PS3. I think a price drop will help, as it always results in a sales spike. I just have a hard time seeing it gain that much ground.

That makes about as much sense as your claim...without any links to back it up, it is just fanboyism.

I saw that picture posted on VGChartz and thought it was funny. I wasn't making fun of the PS3, as fumanstan suggested, the picture is mocking folks (i.e. Sony fanboys) that make this claim everytime a "AAA" title is coming. I have a PS3, and in fact just today, picked up Killzone 2.

I don't have any links to back up my claims but I'm willing to bet the vast majority of consumers prefer peanut butter on wheat bread over white bread... and those Rye folks are just fucking crazy.

It doesn't need to be saved from anything. It's just an incredibly lame insult that folks who prefer a 360 (or hate Sony) love to make up over and over again to delude themselves that somehow Sony is failing at something and needs to be "saved".

That's pretty fucking funny, although, I prefer peanut butter on white bread with grape jelly! Yummy!

Re: February 2009 NPD Data

I don't have any links to back up my claims, but I believe that Sony is paying employees to go around to Best Buys throughout the country and purchase as many PS3's as they can to inflate the numbers as high as they can without being too obvious. The actual number of PS3's purchased by "real" customers would only be measured in the 100's per month. I don't think Sony has really sold more than 10,000 PS3's and they are playing a shell game with the console and game sales.

For the record, I own two ps3's. I believe that makes me the majority owner of PS3's in the United States.

Well, at least this time it's PS3 bashing and not Wii bashing. Even though I've contributed to the latter in the past.

Not really, we've already covered who the picture is targeted toward. While Sony may not really need to be "saved," the way that the PS3 has underperformed versus expectations isn't made up.

That's all I'm saying that's made up. We don't seem to disagree.

No it doesn't. Lowest price point 360= Biggest seller. That's just common sense.
Your analogy would make as much sense if the PS3 was the cheapest blu ray player in the market. It isn't, and hasn't been for a while. (a year and a half if I recall correctly.)
