[This thread supersedes Part IV (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-clubs/529021-columbia-house-sale-offer-codes-part-iv.html), which has become quite long.]
This thread is intended as a place to list Sale Offer Codes that may be of interest to other Columbia House DVD Club members.
Sale offer codes differ from Enrollment codes. To learn about the best Enrollment codes please check out the CH Enrollment Codes Part II (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=480475) Thread.
thejester and LKRUNNELS have been kind enough to do some code trawling for us in recent months. Thanks!
FAQs by lizard:
Q: What is a "sale offer code"?
A: Columbia House offers a variety of promotional offers and sales to its members. Some are worthless but others can be terrific deals if properly used. Sale offers are designated by a six digit number beginning with "80", for example 803048.
Q: Will a sale offer code work on MY account?
A: Perhaps. In the past offer codes were strictly limited to the accounts that Columbia House assigned them to. Then we started finding numerous codes that would work on most or all accounts. Use of codes is strictly a "YMMV" ("Your Mileage May Vary") situation.
Q: Will a Sale offer code work on my TV Edition Club account?
A: Usually; same as with regular DVD Club accounts. TV Edition Club accounts have exactly the same fulfillment requirements and sale offers as regular DVD Club accounts.
Q: Will a Sale offer code work on my CH.com account?
A: Sorry, No. CH.com accounts rarely utilize sale offers of any kind. They are designed to be simple, with free shipping all the time and no Director's Selections to fuss with. But average DVD costs are substantially higher than properly optimized regular DVD club accounts; that's the price one pays for convenience.
Q: How do I enter a sale offer code?
A: Log-in to your account. At the top of the page will be your current sale offer. Click on "details" and you will get an explanation of your current offer. If you click on the "Looking for the Offer in Your Mailing?" link, it will take you to a place to enter your sale offer code. This is described in more detail in The "How do I enter a code" answer! (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-clubs/539113-how-do-i-enter-code-answer.html) thread.
Q: How long do sale offers last?
A: In the past, sale offers have lasted from two days or so to several weeks. Some codes have expired and then been resurrected weeks or months later. If you spot a code you want to use and it works on your account, remember this: "You snooze, you lose".
Q: Where do I find the BEST sale offer codes?
A: You should be able to find the better codes posted on the last page or two of this thread. That's the purpose of this thread. Certain prized sale offers may be posted in their own threads and draw much discussion.
Q: I got a sale offer in an e-mail; how do I find out what the code is?
A: Using a browser like Internet Explorer, click on the e-mail and then partway through the page loading process stop the load. If you time it correctly, you will see an interim URL and it will have the sale offer code embedded in it: 80xxxx. It takes practice to stop the page load at the correct time. This method doesn't seem to work with current version of the Firefox browser. I am uncertain if it will work with other browsers, such as Safari.
While you don't need the code to use the sale offer (just clicking on your e-mail is enough), by posting the code here others can try it to see if it will work on their accounts.
Q: What are some good sale offers?
A: The most highly prized sale offers here are B1G1F (also abbreviated BOGOF), which stands for "Buy One Get One Free", and various forms of "Free Shipping". Some offer codes can include both B1G1F and free shipping. A recent (3/27/08) code offered B1G4F (plus shipping). Using such a code can lead to per disc averages as low as $4.39 and many of the purchases can be newer titles or 2 disc Special Editions not yet available for enrollment. For fulfilling an account, it doesn’t get any better than that.
Q: I have free shipping on my account, why isn't my box set getting free shipping?
A: Columbia House used to include box sets, and other "Special" priced DVDs in free shipping offers but this is no longer allowed except on rare occasions. So, free shipping usually applies only to regular and sale priced DVDs or HD discs. Free shipping is not allowed on Funcash purchases.
Q: I have a B1G1F sale offer on my account, can I buy a box set or a Pre-order using it?
A: Yes and No. You can't get box sets and Pre-orders (usually) as freebies, but you can use one to qualify for a free regular DVD that is priced the same as, or less than, the qualifying purchase (and the qualifying purchase will count for fulfillment if it is priced at $19.95 or more). An exception to this general rule is that pre-orders often become available as freebies a week or so before release date.
Q: I have a B1G1F sale offer on my account, can I buy a Blu-ray Disc or HD DVD using it?
A: Yes and No. You can't get High Definition disc (usually) as a freebie, but you can use one to qualify for a free regular DVD that is priced the same as, or less than, the qualifying purchase (and the qualifying purchase will count for fulfillment if it is priced at $19.95 or more). Columbia House did have a B1G1F sale on HD discs at one time, so it is possible that they may have future sales of that kind.
Q: I have a B1G1F offer on my account, can I get more than one free DVD?
A: Sometimes. Some sale offers allow the purchase of more than one free DVD, others limit the account to just one freebie per order.
Q: Can I use a B1G1F offer more than once?
A: Yes, the offers can be used on as many separate orders as you want until they expire.
Q: My account has "Buy one get 50% (or 60%) off". Is this a good deal?
A: No. Those are the standard offers most accounts get and they are completely worthless. Why? Because the sale DVDs don't count for fulfillment yet they cost more than the average DVD cost in a well-optimized account (currently about $4.80 per DVD using a B1G1F plus free shipping sale offer [7-2-07]).
Please understand that it is the business of Columbia House to entice you to spend more money on DVDs than you otherwise would. So, they throw sale offers at you that sound good but really aren't, because they up the average cost of the DVDs that you buy. And they throw "Director's Selections" at you in the hope that you forget to decline them (which is very easy to do on-line). For best results, learn the Clubs Forum "mantra": "Enroll, fulfill, cancel, repeat". Buying the minimum required DVDs after enrolling usually leads to the lowest average cost of DVDs.
Q: Are there any other things I should know about sale offers?
A: Yes, you should be aware that when using complicated sale offers like B1G1F, Columbia House sometimes screws them up and you will be left trying to sort it out after the fact. You might even have to send back the order so that you can start over with a clean slate. If you are using a sale offer code that was not on your account you are in a weak position when it comes to explaining to a CSR (Customer Service Representative) why they made a mistake with your order and that they should fix it. Please be aware of this.
Most of us have no trouble with our orders but you can be assured that those who do will be vociferous when posting their bad experiences in this forum. When correcting a mistake it is best to "let the dust settle" for a few days rather than rush and have an order screwed up even more.
If you have any additional questions about sale offer codes, please feel free to post them here.

All of the B1G1 except the first (801490) appear to be dead.
Thanks for continuing to post the codes, Jester. I did get in a couple with the 60 % off & free shipping over $25 (ordered sets as qualifiers, so didn't save shipping on those anyway). Was going to place another couple of orders, but looked at the calendar wrong & thought Monday was the 22nd (when the emails said the deals ended). Doofus move on my part, but CH will keep offering these sales to pump up the volume...just like every other retailer is doing.

Redeem the FunCash ™ you've earned in the current year on practically any regular-priced DVD Club item. When you redeem, just use your FunCash ™ the same way you'd use regular cash ($1 = $1 in FunCash ™). You must have enough FunCash ™ to equal the regular Club price of an item to take it for free. Please note that FunCash ™ cannot be applied to High definition DVDs, boxed sets, tax, or shipping and processing charges.

It looks to me like I MIGHT get free shipping on my order, but I don't know for sure because the site won't let me get to checkout! In Firefox it goes to search, and in IE a webpage comes up that says its certificate is not valid for the site and refuses to send me there.
Trying to work around it, not having a fun day! 2 blurays and 2 dvds come up at $47 and change with no shipping added as far as I can tell (and the bogo holds up).

It just seems to come up that way, unless they add it when I go to checkout. But in the past, the shipping was already added at the cart. That's why I can't tell this time. No code added. I will post what happens when I can actually get to checkout and see if it sticks.

It will add shipping once you go to checkout. I use firefox and got the security error and just put it on my exceptions list and got to the checkout page.
I tried on a fulfilled account and no free shipping qualifier there either.

oh, well, I wasn't saying that the sale is stupid to you; I was saying that it's stupid to me. If I had however been saying that then I'd stand corrected. And the reason I think the sale is stupid is because you can't enter codes, which pretty much makes the codes pointless. I've been given a code, legitimately, through the mail on an order receipt that says to log onto the site to use it which I cannot use because they have disabled entering codes. The funny thing is that on the receipt they give no instructions on how to apply the code to your transaction. Luckily, I know how, but I just think it's funny all the clever crap CH does to make it seem like they're giving you deals when they're actually giving you the exact opposite of one.

^You have to remember that those of "in the know" are flying under the radar so to speak. All this marketing crap/games is aimed at the true "bread and butter" of the CH system. The people who think a B1G1 w/shipping is a *great* deal because it only cost them ~$13/ea. for titles they would have had to purchase for $15+ at their local BM. The same group that opens an account and uses it forever... no cycling. That group is probably eating up this B1G1 weekend while we sit and stew waiting for it to end so we can use a truly good deal. :)

I agree with you, to a point.
As a recent former member of the "bread & butter" club, I have to say that even with knowing about codes and low-key deals, ANY BOGO deal that includes BDs is a great deal. Yes, a free shipping code that piggybacks a BOGO is wonderful and takes off 2 bucks per title from the grand total, but as long as you hit the deal right, it's far from bad or stupid.
As many of you know, the trick to a BOGO isnt getting the free movie(s), it's getting the right free movie(s). Plus, the more you buy, the better the deal is going to be, shipping or not - if you're going to get 10 or 20 movies, the extra shipping cost isnt going to sway you.
As long as you dont try and get a slew of overpriced movies where the competition sells them at least 10 bucks cheaper before shipping, at the end of the day, you win. And even if you do go that route, you're still getting movies for free and if that works for you, then it's still a win. So, in essence, the only folks that arent winning are the folks that arent playing.
I dont fault anyone for sitting on their hands as they wait for a BD BOGO with free shipping deal to roll around. But, I also know that in any scenario, the best deal is always the one that's on the table now and not the one that may or may not be coming down the road.

Sorry for adding discussion to the Sale Codes thread. This will be my only post about this. If this discussion continues, I'll move this post out to a new thread.
in any scenario, the best deal is always the one that's on the table now and not the one that may or may not be coming down the road.
I couldn't disagree with you more. That's among the worst of all business advice I've ever heard. What you said is only true if you NEED the deal and if you have evidence that, at worst, the same one won't be coming back again in the not-so-distant future. Any discs in your unwatched pile at the moment? A simple B1G1 on Blu-ray would seem to be the future of CH deals. In other words, the best deal is HARDLY EVER the one that's on the table now.
If you don't learn from experience, then you're not being an informed shopper. Experience shows us that CH repeats certain behavior. There are sales that go away and come back--not like clockwork, or at least that of a clock you'd want to use daily, but they do have a habit of coming back. Couple that with the occasional planet-alignment that allows the best codes to stack, and you get some truly amazing deals. Other, greater people have said it before me, and I will repeat it: patience is the key with CH.
If your "to be watched" pile is down zero, then yeah, go ahead with an OK deal if you want something to watch now and you don't have other options of cable TV, Netflix, or whatever else you might have. But if you still have stuff sitting on your shelf that you haven't watched, and if you have EVER had the experience of double-dipping, or upgrading to Blu-ray on a title when you didn't even watch the first version that you bought, then you're not buying intelligently, and you're spending too much money. It really is that simple.
Of course, it all comes down to time and money. If you have more money on your hands, and you're too busy to keep checking for codes and maintaining a priority list of titles to pull the trigger on, then do whatever you like. Most people here, I believe, are looking for the best deals. A B1G1 on Blu-ray without free shipping does not qualify.
NOTE: follow any possible future discussion about this in this thread (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-clubs/552884-debate-jump-codes-now-wait-better-deals.html).

Oh sure, now you get the codes listed, right after I placed an order :)
I used one of the BOGO unlimited, as the previous codes were not working. Couldn't resist, as I had the Flinstones complete series and Back to the Future Sets in my cart and they were showing up as free with funcash. I'd go along with the B2TF free with funcash, but there was no way I had enough for the Flinstones. So, I added Quantum Leap season 2, and got Thumbelina (for my little one) free. Total came to $40.23 for all of those.
Hope it goes through :)
Thanks for always listing the codes. Ya'll are awesome.

Thanks for clarifying. I am sorry to ask, but are any of you guys aware of any codes for your brother up north?
WuBrotha1
04-11-09, 07:11 AM
Maybe some of you guys can help me. I placed three orders the other day using one of the codes from the site. My first order was 20 dvd's that totaled about $115; my second order - 19 dvd's for about $100; and my third order was 4 dvd's for about $9. I got a bunch of triple funcash from my first order which I used up on my second order and then payed for some more on that order. That gave me more fun cash which I used on the third order for the four dvd's and just payed the shipping.
Ok, so, a few days goes by and my charges show up all broken up into little charges - $36 and change, $50 something and change, etc. I just thought, "ok, that's probably the charge for each shipment they're making," cause then I got three emails saying a handful of the dvd's I ordered were being shipped. One email had like 6, another about 6 or 7, and the last email said it was shipping 4 of them. That's all I got. So, I thought,"Well, they're shipping them in chunks. I'll eventually get them all over the next week or two." Well, then, tonight, just now, I went to sign into my account and I got a message saying, "You're account is in-active. Please contact customer service." What??!!! I can't call customer service cause I can't log into my account and get my account number and its not in any of the emails I received. There's nothing on the site explaining what this means and I never got an email explaining there's something wrong with my account or that it was being canceled or whatever the issue may be.
So, I clicked through their online customer stuff til I got a contact-email page. I filled it out without my account number and explained the situation, that I couldn't log into the account and that I don't know what's going on and I'm worried because I have an order that I've been charged for but haven't received full shipping confirmation on and now I can't access anything or call for help because I can't get my account number. Ehh! Also, I don't have all the confirmation numbers to the three orders cause they are not in the order confirmation emails. In the shipment confirmations there are dvd's shipped from two of the orders, and it says those two order numbers, but that still leaves a third order number that I cannot reference.
Have any of you guys heard of any of this happening or know what's going on or what I should do? I hate having to deal with customer service issues with these guys cause it's impossible to get anything corrected. If I'm only getting the few they sent shipping confirmation about then I don't want the order. I don't want to pay over 200 dollars for that or be credited a difference and end up paying full price for each or something. I wanted everything I ordered with the deal they offered. That's why I ordered it. I'm afraid they've canceled my account and are not going to fulfill the order but still charge me for it. Maybe they won't send any of them and will refund me but knowing this company and the problems people have with them and returns and overcharges or wrongful charged I doubt this will get worked out. Please, if someone has some info that could help me I'd really appreciate it. I was told I'd hear from a representative in response to my email within 48 hours, but if I don't hear anything and I can't get an answer from someone over the phone about this and I don't receive more shipping confirmation emails for the remaining dvd's from my orders' or a full refund then I'm going to report fraudulent charges on my card to my bank. Ok, I hope you guys can help. And the code I used was for B1 + 60% off + $6 fun cash + free shipping on the order.

Hey WuBrotha1.....I've had the "account inactive" thing happen to me once before. It was over the course of a whole weekend that I couldn't sign in, but when Monday rolled around I was finally able to get into my account. Hopefully it'll be the same for you.....Also, as far as the shipping confirmations go, I've noticed that whenever Columbia House sends those out, they only list a max of 6 dvds that are in the shipment. So those shipments that were sent out may include more than 6 dvds, but the shipping confirmations are only going to show 6....Hope this helps

Well, if it was a b1g1 like I thought you meant, I was going to be closing/opening a few of my accounts pretty quickly - there were several in that list that have been on my "to get" (eventually) list. And, as a fullfillment possibility, that would've work great.

Ya'll are confusing me.
The set price deal worked with the 801490. That is. If I bought a set at $19.95, I got a FREE DVD (pay the shipping on the freebie, not on the set as shipping was included).

This is exactly how I interpretted it. I knew that box sets are never freebies. Anyway, I looked through all of the 19.95 titles, but wasn't impressed with the selection. I have an account to fulfill, but I'll wait for a better deal (probably a B1G1F on BD's, which I just missed on this account)

Maybe you guys can help me. I'm using the $19.95 box set deal to activate the B1G1 from 801490. So far so good. The problem is that I can't get any of the special editions that also appear in the separate sitewide B1G1 SE deal ("Spectacular Special Edition 2 For 1") to come up as free with the box set as the qualifier. I've tried every imaginable combination in terms of in what order I add things to my cart, and every other standard trick in the book. Is anyone out there able to make this work in a test scenario? The SEs are titles that would normally qualify as the free ones on a B1G1 (the 2-disc Quantum of Solace, for example), but the separate sitewide deal seems to be killing it off (since entering a code doesn't get rid of the SSE2F1).
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Actually bog2, even paying shipping is better than the usual bogo w/free shipping. Of course, the bog2 w/free shipping is outstanding, not worth the risk/wait for myself to fulfill.
It is BEST to use 2 pre-releases as your 2 fulfillfments!
bog2: Using 22.95 titles
22.95 +
2.99 shipping for 1st
1.99 shipping for 2nd
1.99 shipping for 3rd
Total=29.92 /3= 9.97 each
26.92 for $19.95 title=8.97eac
To fulfill:
22.95x2=45.9
2.99 1st
1.99x5 for rest=9.95
total=58.84/6=9.80ea
@ $19.95=8.80ea
bogo w/free ship:
22.95/2=11.47 each

No go for blu ray only. I tried a few times until I read the details:
Blu-Ray Titles can act as a qualifier, but can not go as your FREE selection.
I will just be waiting until the next B1G1 blu ray special comes along. I have a list of blu titles I would like to have....

Total=29.92 /3= 9.97 each
26.92 for $19.95 title=8.97eac
I'm sure Cheato will break this down, but it's not really Better than BOGO w/Free Shipping, since you should factor in enrollment titles to determine average price. Both of these mean you end up buying a 3 disc for about $7 more, which is higher than the general average of cycling an account.
But that's not much difference, and if there are titles you want now its a great deal. Personally I found the deal good enough to not care about the per/disc average and use it anyway, especially since I used two of the 19.95 sets on sale with free shipping.

Actually, not. A selection on a properly maximized account is worth $4.80.
Total cost of membership:
$12.89 + $39.90 = $52.79 (11 DVDs)
Average cost of DVDs purchased:
$52.79/11 = ~$4.80
****
Your extra selection cost you $6.97 which is $2.17 more than it should for *each* of your fulfillments. While the overall effect does not raise the average too much it *still* raises the average... by ~.33/selection (including the extra 2 selections). The best way to use this code would be to get one of the $19.95 sets that has free shipping. That way the imputed cost of the extra selection is only $4.98, only $.18 more than a selection is worth on a maximized account.
On an already fulfilled account the B1G2 code used to purchase a $19.95 set w/free shipping is the same cost as an optimized TVonDVD account with a set for $15.33 and the selections at $4.80/each.
j-bo

I meant for the current offer.
If free shipping was in play, bog2 would def. be the best deal. Subract the $12.94 for shipping. Total then is $45.90. Add in your enrollments of $12.89=$58.79/13=$4.52 That's for $22.95 titles. IF you chose 2 $19.95 titles it would be $4.06 each.
But, IF IF IF...:)
However, with the current deals at hand, bog2 wins.

RENO 911 S3 = 19.95
repo: genetic opera = FREE
30 days of night = FREE

When calculating these things, you can't average together sets and regular DVDs.
Reno 911 S3 and Arrested Development S3 are not regularly priced DVDs available as enrollments or as freebies in a B1G1, nor are they normally available with free shipping.
It's impossible to value them accurately since they're not good deals at the club without the special situation now where they bump up to the $19.95 level, and now can get us freebies and count as fulfillments.
The only way to really compare their value is to look at alternative retailers for a replacement value. I don't know what they go for or where you can find them, but:
In dedrose's example, he/she came out much farther ahead than originally thought.
$61.75 for 11 DVDs and 2 sets, not $61.75 for 13 DVDs. For example, if the sets can be found for $10 each elsewhere, that means 11 DVDs for $41.75, or about $3.80 each. Nice...

Bingo. I have always put sets in a completely different optimization "bucket" for precisely this reason.
If only my latest application, sumitted Monday evening, had gone through. I'm only getting about 1 in 4 to work lately, and my timing here wasn't good. Too bad, because if you want any of those $20 sets this is a smoking good fulfillment deal.

Also worth noting with the B1G2 code, Your freebies don't necessarily have to be 19.95 or less when you buy one of the box sets as your B1, I've noticed that you can go up to 22.95.
For example, I just placed the following order:
John Hughes Too Cool For School Collection: $19.95
Tale of Despereaux (22.95): FREE
Role Models (22.95): FREE

As long as you have a Club Price item setting the qualifying level to $26.95 or more, it appears that titles up to $26.95 will qualify as free with the B1G2. That is, as long as they are not titles in the 2-for-1 SE sale. Because of that 2-for-1 sale, most of the best SEs are excluded.
However, thanks to the data miner list (thanks again, guys!), I found a few:
All the $26.95 titles at CH (confirmed to work as free):
Maltese Falcon Special Edition (3 discs)
Mystic River Deluxe Edition (3 discs)
NFL Steelers: The Complete History
Oklahoma! 50th Anniversary Edition
Windtalkers Director's Edition (3 discs)
And here is a list of $24.95 titles that should work (ones not included in the 2-for-1 SE sale), but I am not about to try to check them all to see if they work as free in the cart:
20 Million Miles to Earth 50th Anniversary Edition
24: Redemption
Afro Samurai: Resurrection Special Edition Director's Cut
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters
Barbie Diaries Gift Set
Batman & Robin Special Edition
Batman Forever Special Edition
Batman Returns Special Edition

Lawrence of Arabia Limited Edition
Marley & Me Bad Dog Edition
Mission: Impossible 3 Collector's Edition

Ten Commandments The 50th Anniversary Collection
Texas Chainsaw Massacre Platinum Series
To Catch a Thief Centennial Collection
Touch of Evil 50th Anniversary Edition
Valley of the Dolls Special Edition
Vertigo Special Edition
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story Unrated
War of the Worlds Limited Edition
Water Horse: Legend of the Deep Special Edition
Yentl Director's Extended Edition
Yes Man Digital Copy Special Edition
You Don't Mess With the Zohan Fully Loaded Extended Version (Unrated)
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
From the list of $24.95 titles, I should note that two of these are 3-disc (and not because of Digital Copy) editions:
Black Hawk Down Deluxe Edition
Ten Commandments The 50th Anniversary Collection
In the days before Digital Copy editions, these were considered "sets" by CH, and were never available as free selections and had big shipping charges. Once the 3-disc Hulk and Sarah Marshall releases were in the club, these changed to regular DVDs instead of sets, making them much better deals.

Welcome and well done! As Cheato mentioned above, you did even better than you realized since the sets have more value than regular DVD titles, although it is hard to quantify.
I disagree with the logic being used here.
You are buying from CH, the set price ($19.95) is what you are going to pay, thus, that is the value whether or not you can find each title in the set for more expense elsewhere and multiply by 2 or 3 discs in the set or just finding the set cheaper/more expensive is irrelevant or at best perceived value.
BobO'Link
04-17-09, 05:43 PM
^Actually, those were TV sets which, as Cheato and Lizard mentioned, have more value than regular DVD titles. On a TVonDVD membership with a properly optimized fulfillment they have a "value" of $15.33, but for a sale like this I always use the lowest current price I can find *or* $10/each for the sets to be able to better value the regular DVDs of such a membership... and yes, even if those sets are movie sets.
No matter how you stack it, this is a great way to fulfull and gives possibly the best optimization available.
Cheato
04-17-09, 06:09 PM

As BobO'Link mentioned, these were TV season sets, which aren't available as individual discs to be purchased like regular DVDs, so can't be compared to $4.80 DVDs. In the case of a 2-pack or 3-pack where there are no additional bonuses, then yeah, you can do that--like the Jurassic Park set, for instance.
I'm not quite sure I understood your point, but as far as the logic of the math goes:
If you can cycle accounts and get DVDs for $4.80, and if you could get Reno 911 Season 3 and Arrested Development Season 3 for $2 each from another retailer, you would quite literally be throwing money away just to get those season sets at CH--there must be something else you could get instead that would still get you the discs you wanted but not entail you losing money on the season sets. Just because you're cycling accounts at CH to get great deals doesn't mean that you check your brain at the login page.
To take it to an extreme to get you to see the logic of that, if all DVDs were $3 elsewhere, you wouldn't buy any DVDs from CH at all. The limiting factor on purchases at CH is the fact that $4.80 is the base price for DVDs, and $15.33 is the base price for basic boxed sets. If your average is better than that, you're under par.
If you can get something for less than that elsewhere (or close to it, considering the cost of the hassle of cycling), then you're wasting your money at CH. Extrapolate that back into the situation discussed previously, and you should see the logic.

Looks like The Reader is a pre-order on Blu-Ray only, so the DVD (already released) won't result in free shipping (and the Blu-Ray can't be a free title).
Blu-Ray pre-orders do receive free shipping (2 days only?), so one can buy Inkheart Blu-Ray, get a non-Blu title for free (with code 801490), and not pay shipping on the Blu-Ray.

Cycling with B1G1FS: $4.80 per DVD
Cycling with B1G2: $5.05 per DVD
Think of it this way:
You're getting 2 more DVDs, but paying $2.99+1.99*5=$12.94 for shipping. Since each DVD in the first example is only $4.80, you're paying an extra $12.94-4.80*2 = $3.34 for the entire cycle.
Still not a bad deal, since that $3.34 is spread across 13 DVDs, but definitely not as good as a basic B1G1FS cycle.
The extra advantages this time around were based on using the special $19.95 sets as your fulfillment titles. You were saving about $1 on most of the sets to begin with (and up to $10 or more than that for a small number of them), and it allowed you to get up to $26.95 titles as freebies, instead of just $19.95 titles. So, depending on what you wanted to get, it was a great deal. And a few cents here or there to get extra DVDs without having to cycle is always kind of nice. I went through a dry spell of not getting accounts approved (and not being able to get anyone to answer on the phone enrollment line). But, I just got a phone enrollment completed last week...
I started opting for the 6:3, instead of picking up a 7th DVD for $9.95 to make it a 7:2. That gives the flexibility of taking advantage of a great deal to use as another fulfillment credit on an account instead of just getting another $4.80 DVD.

Yes, it was. I think j-bo doesn't care, though.
Cycling with B1G1FS: $4.80 per DVD
Cycling with B1G2: $5.05 per DVD

That code has been around for a long time (hence the HD DVD reference). However it's been just as long since it worked on BR selections. I don't think it ever will. Basically a code that was deactivated, but never removed from the system.

60% off & Free shipping is a great offer. Sometimes even better than b1g1, because you only have to pay full price for the first DVD. There's also 10% off on Mother's day titles, so you can probably choose that as the b1. Brokeback mountain for mothers day? anyways.

^ In general, you have to order more than 6 DVDs for the "even better than b1g1" to be true. But it is often overlooked in favor of B1G1 codes. The break-even point is 6 in most situations. The 60%-off codes also give you more flexibility for ordering odd numbers of DVDs, as well as different combinations of differently-priced items in the same order that don't stack together to give CH the best deal (pay for 2 $22 DVDs and get 2 $15 DVDs for free, for example).

I just used the $19.95 box sets (FS from April) along with 801490 (B1G1) and choose Pre-orders that are releasing on 05/12 and 05/19. Those pre-orders all qualified as the free ones and had no shipping. As of 5 minutes ago, this was still working
Tyler Perry Season 1 $19.95
Valkyrie free
Tyler Perry Season 2 $19.95
Taken free
Dead Zone Final Season $19.95
My Bloody Val 3D free
======
$59.85 + free shipping (3 box sets and 3 pre-orders)
Now I have several new release titles I want to grab with a b1+ 60% FREE SHIPPING.

I think that actually might be a code (so you can't get it to stack with anything else), and they're sending different codes to different accounts. Right now I have two accounts open, and I got two seperate mailings for offers that last this weekend only. One is free shipping with 3 or more titles, as above. The other is free shipping on orders of $25 or more. Don't know if there's any more out there. Neither of those make sense for me by themselves.
In any case, I tried to stack the b1g1 unlimited code with the buy 3 get free shipping offer, and the free shipping offer went away as soon as it accepted the b1g1 code.

When you go out of business like I heard BMG is then you lose all of your business. They're not really giving most of us on here a reason to buy right now but I guess that doesn't matter to the average buyer.

I sure hope not....I use CH for my catalog upgrades to Blu (titles I already have on DVD but am now buying for high def), as these BOGO prices are what I see as a fair range ($11-13) to do so.....if CH stopped ever doing those sales, I'd just cancel my membership and have to wait for Amazon or wherever to eventually have a sale (or price reduction by the studio)....

Could we please take this kind of discussion to another thread? How about a "CH B1G1FS Blu, We Miss You!"
This thread is for posting of new codes and limited discussion about how to take advantage of those codes to get good deals. Lately, it's been a (mostly Blu-ray collector) lament-fest. When people see that a new post has been made in this thread, they pop in to see what the deal is, only to find someone saying something like why they aren't buying something right now.
I hadn't said anything so far because (1) I always get bitched at by some newbie or some pseudo-rebel-without-a-clue when I say something like this, and (2) because by posting this in this thread, I'm doing the same damn thing: posting something off-topic in this thread.
I don't care one whit about Blu-ray, but I do tend to buy box sets from CH to fulfill my memberships. Is it OK if I post in here with my unfounded sky-is-falling fears that somehow CH will never do a box set free shipping sale again?
There will be another B1G1FS Blu-ray sale in CH's future. Count on it. But here's the key: Be f'in patient.
