Battles BC (History Channel)

If you seen the previews of this, the recreated battle sequences look like the ones from '300' - which is cool in my book. The series debuts tonight and the rest of the season are these episodes:

3/9/09 Hannibal: The Annihilator
3/16/09 David: Giant Slayer
3/23/09 Caesar: Super Siege
tbd/09 Alexander: Lord of War
tbd/09 Joshua: Epic Slaughter
tbd/09 Moses: Death Chase
tbd/09 Judgment Day at Marathon
tbd/09 Ramses: Raging Chariots

Re: Battles BC (History Channel)

well... since no one here actually watches non-drama/comedy/reality schlock tv, I'll give my two cents anyway.

Hannibal: The Annihilator, while extremely informative in under an hour, it's also a visual treat. Combining minature work, CGI and animation the battle scenes are exciting when blood is expelled out of a victim - a huge blotch of grue in still form is seen exiting the body. For military history aficionades, diagrams in animated form are visually displayed in how Hannibal's and Rome armies advanced and flanked each other. All in all, it's both eye candy and a fascinating history lesson combined into one.

Re: Battles BC (History Channel)

This series does look interesting and I have read on most of those characters but some of the choices leave me puzzled as there are lots of other battels in the BC that they could have chosen. Moses and David are the biggest "?" to me, I can possibly see David but I did not know Moses lead a great army. It is also interesting that they highlight individuals on every battle except Marathon, I would have liked to see episodes on the March of the 10,000 but I guess that is what Alexander is for.

^ well there's always enough battles for a second season, that's why History Channel hopes this series finds an audience.

I liked it, but would like to see better animated tactical maps when describing assest placements and movements. The ones they use are pretty childish and uninformative. The show is definitely reminiscent of Battle 360.

I'll watch. Anything that could replace the 20 episodes of Modern Marvels The History Channel shows daily is OK with me.

History channel cracks me up. This station used to have a line between fact and fiction. It's second only to the SciFi channel showing wrestling. At least the SciFi channel is about fiction.

I'm glad they premiered a show that actually looks at historical events instead of guys cutting down trees or driving trucks through snow.

I know they had a series on H C that used the total war engine to resolve battles from the past, very cool.

Are you saying that David is fiction? Youre not that ignorant are you? David was very much real.

I loved the show and will watch. But the season is only 8 episodes? That sucks.

Damn it! I forgot all about this. I saw the previews and wanted to see this.
But I missed it. It maybe cartoonish like the other person said
but it's better than watching truckers drive over ice and snow.

I think the first episode is being repeated several times before the next episode debuts.

Re: Battles BC (History Channel)

A few years ago, The History Channel did an excellent program called "Decisive Battles" that used videogame graphics to depict epic battles from ancient times. That show stuck only to battles that were well-documented and it was very informative on which key events happened to determine the outcome of the battles. This series sounds like it's along those same lines, but using more up-to-date technology to have better graphics.

The episode on Hannibal was pretty good and I did learn a lot! But boy they really go super cheap on all these actors, they are horrible!

I watched it last night. I thought it was pretty good. It is cartoonish
but it still was good. I may even get the DVD when it comes out.

yes, who would think, but between the Universe, How the earth Was Made, Axe Men, Ice Road Truckers, UFO Hunters and MonsterQuest, you are hard pressed these days to find acutal history on the History Channel.

While I liked the Universe, it is hardly defined as History --- more like science. And Monsterquest and UFO Hunters is a bunch of speculation about what MIGHT have happened with a feeling of disappointement at the conclusion every time.

Don't get me started on Axe Men and Ice Road Truckers which might have qualified as a special, but hardly two seasons each.

It's good to have some history back. This along with Warriors (on Thurs) is a welcome relief from the dirvel that they have been churning out lately. Maybe people want that drivel or maybe it's just cheaper to produce, but it has tarnished a once great station.
