MLB 2K9....Did anyone pick it up? How is it?

I did not buy a baseball game last year, but I'm thinking about picking up MLB2K9. Just wondering if anyone here picked it up this week and can give an opinion.

One of my main problems with baseball video games is I struggle big time using the batting cursor when trying to hit. How is that for this season's edition?

If you have a Playstation, get the Show, no question. I played the demo for 2k9 and was not at all impressed.

I have an XBox 360, so this is my only baseball alternative.

Does 2k9 have the option to change hitting so it's time based instead of location based?

The Show is also available on the Playstation 2. I understand it's not the sexiest option out there but if you have a PS2, I'd still choose The Show over 2k9.

It got a 6.5 from Game Informer. I'd never opt for it over The Show.

There is a demo up on XBL, you could try it out. I didn't think it was that bad.

Okay, so I picked it up for $53.99 today at Best Buy (with 10% off coupon) I'll try to get an inning or two in this weekend.

Unfortunately, I don't have a PS3 or PS2, so can't get The Show even though some of you mentioned it's a far superior game.

I would say too bad EA Sports doesn't have an MVP Baseball edition, but this serves them right for fucking everyone over with Madden.

Yikes!!!! Well, if the game fucking blows, at least it's early enough to get about half I paid for it in Trade credit, but it can't be that bad can it?

Need to hear another opinion from someone who owns this game.

How was 2K8 by the way?

I've read everywhere that it is buggy as sin, so I'm passing this year unless some mega-patch is released.

Its always buggy as hell. You would think they would realize this by now and stop releasing this garbage. The Show is way better.

2K own the exclusive multi-console rights to a baseball game and paid a hell of a lot for that. Don't expect them to stop anytime soon. The only way to play a baseball game on the Wii, DS or XBOX 360 are 2K's game.

They picked up the exclusive rights after EA got the exclusive NFL rights. 2K idiotically didn't get full exclusive rights, only third party exclusive rights. So Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo can make their own MLB games (as Sony has continued to do).

I don't know how it could work but I wonder if it would be possible for Microsoft to publish a EA Sports developed baseball game as a console exclusive?

I bought 2k8 for $10 and that was $10.01 too much.

Re: MLB 2K9....Did anyone pick it up? How is it?

Just started playing around with this last night.

Batting is quite different. You have to use the right thumb stick and push it down and then flip it up to hit the ball. I was in practice mode for awhile trying to get use to this and managed to hit 30 of 32 pitches.

Can't figure out how to adjust the batting stance.

Pitching is weird is well. You have to use the left thumb stick to position the cursor and the right thumb stick to throw the pitch.

You should see the 2K Sports Forum. I would say 99.5% of them hate this game with a passion and complained left and right about the bugs.

It was like that last year, too. If I remember correctly, a series of patches (finally) solved most of the issues. I opted to go with The Show this year (since I now own a PS3), so I can't speak to the 2K9 issues. I thought I had read somewhere that some kind of patch was available on launch day (for 2K9) that would address some of the glitches, but I can't find that article (if I'm remembering correctly) now.

Re: MLB 2K9....Did anyone pick it up? How is it?

The MLB series is kind of like an abusive partner in a relationship. I keep coming back every year and I keep getting punched in the face. The game is awful and I wasn't really all that surprised. Realism is not something I think they strive for. Almost everything is wrong. Stats are wrong. It said Geoff Blum was 12th in the league in walks last year. It's hard to get crap like that wrong. Gameplay is as bugging and crappy as 2k6, 2k7, and 2k8. I was playing an online game and I noticed how easy it was to commit an error. Let the stick go at the wrong time, and it looks like a sunday league game with balls flying everywhere. I started intentionally never letting go just to see how many errors I could commit. I ended up with 15.

I will say this, online works. Can't say that about the show, but that game is far and away superior in every other way.

Re: MLB 2K9....Did anyone pick it up? How is it?

I bought 2K9 for the PC, since it's the first PC baseball game since MVP 05. The mod community is already making early strides with the game, 4 stadiums have already been released with real life ads, including getting rid of a hideous state farm ad in the skyline of Wrigley Field.

The game itself needs a lot of work. Franchise mode is broken as high priced free agents are not being signed due to team budgets being too low. Some stadiums have inaccuracies, such as Nationals Park having a 25' left field wall, when in real life its more like 8 or 9 feet. This was done to put in a State Farm ad. Fenway is about 4 years behind it's real life counterpart, as is Angel Stadium.

A patch was released for the console versions to fix the free agent bug, but from what I've heard the fix was to have the players accept extremely low salaries instead of actually fixing the budgets. A PC patch has not been released, and at this point is not planned either.

I'll never buy a 2K Sports baseball game again. I learned my lesson with '07. Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice...you get the idea.

Re: MLB 2K9....Did anyone pick it up? How is it?

I bought MLB 2K8 for about $5 like a month ago, and it was probably overpriced.

I'll keep playing MVP 2k5, just like I always have.

Those videos are hilarious. I haven't had the pleasure of having my left fielder do barrel rolls or A-Rod disappearing into the grass behind home plate yet.
