Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It's pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the spacecraft. They can't remember anything - who are they, what is their mission? The only way out of the chamber is a dark and narrow airshaft. Corporal Bower (Foster), the younger of the two, crawls inside, while the other, Lt. Payton (Quaid), stays behind for guidance on a radio transmitter. As Bower ventures deeper and deeper into the ship, he begins to uncover a terrifying reality. Slowly the spacecraft's shocking and deadly secrets come unraveled, and the astronauts realize that the survival of mankind hinges on their actions.
I just saw this trailer myself. I think it looks great. I'll always give Dennis Quaid a chance and Ben Foster is always fun to watch. I also did sci-fi horror. Bring it!

Bump.
Been seeing tv spots for this now. Looks good. Maybe they should have pushed it closer to Halloween instead of September? Either way, I'll be there!

Some of the trailers and spots I've seen for this sort of look like the Descent in space.
I'm not holding out too much hope for this, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it's a mild hit and possibly pretty good.
Foster and Quaid

So, no one has seen this yet? I might go check it out this weekend, but I haven't read a damn thing about how good/bad it is.

Shit, I'm torn with this flick. The overall plot, feel and tone was great. I liked the story twists and turns, and how everything came together. Quaid and the other lead actor where fine as well. The directing is where the film falls apart, when the film is trying to be aliens it hits the mark well, then in some moments it turns into resident evil territory and it comes off as a joke. The creature design wasn't anything special.

I'm easy to entertain, so I'm still excited to see this.

Saw it. Liked it more than I expected to.
If you enjoy movies like Event Horizon, you'll enjoy this as well.

Other than being a horror film set in space, "Pandorum" has little in common with "Event Horizon." It's much closer to the "Dead Space" video game IMO.

What does Pandorum have in common with Dead Space, other than being a horror story set in space? I guess if you consider killer space monsters to be the thing that makes them similar, ok, but that would also bring many other movies and games into the discussion. :)
The central plot of Pandorum revolves around a sort of mental illness related to complications from space travel. The "horror from within," if you want to write a thesis paper on it.
The central plot of Event Horizon revolves around the same idea. Dead Space may have some elements of this as well, but to a far lesser extent.

Wow. I really enjoyed this. It had a lot of little details that I like in a sci-fi movie: the tech (like the crank primers, etc), the techno babble that seems thought out, even the monsters and their explanation..
even the hopeful end was refreshing. I thought I had this movie pegged that everyone was going to die. Not only did that prove false, it actually was a 'happy' ending, and those seem rare these days.
AND what looked to be minimal CGI. I hate to see this bombing. If you think you'll like it, see it in the theater.

Yeah, but you could hardly tell because all the action scenes are shot and edited for shit. I was really with this movie at the start - creepy and atmospheric; cool. Then the creatures show up, even cooler...except everytime they're on screen the editing is so frantic that you can't tell what the fuck is happening...which was OK at first, because the characters themselves are disoriented...but then it just became fucking annoying because not a single scene of action was discernable. I like Foster and Quaid in this, and it has some great moments but that aspect really detracted from it for me.
I did however like the ending, even though I thought that was where it was going not necessarily the underwater part, but I knew they were already on the planet and the way to SAVE everyone was launching the pods, since they made a big deal about it early on...also the Quaid/Cigandet connection was easy to spot from the getgo Decent but not great. 3/5

"Event Horizon" was clearly supernatural, dealing with demons, "hell" and so on, "Pandorum" has nothing of the sort. That's all I'm saying.

Agreed. At one point early on in the dialogue you can see for a second..
Payton's name tag on Young "Gallo's" uniform. I thought I was imagining for a second but after that it was clear it was the Pandorum.
Saw this today with my girlfriend. Definitely doesn't offer anything new, but we both enjoyed it. Editing could have been less frantic. The reveal was actually quite satisfying.
Not so much the Payton/Gallo plot, which I thought was a dud, but when Bower and Nadia freak because there are "no stars". Finding out later that they have been on the New Earth the entire time

Very good movie. I enjoyed it far more than I expected. I think the lack of expectations made it do surprisingly good.

Did i miss the significance of finding the Lt. wife's pod. Went with my dad and asked him if he caught why it was brought up and he couldn't remember either. Anyways, fun movie. I agree with the above poster who said it had a Dead Space feel to it. Not necessarily storyline but atmosphere and action.
