As readers of the Sale Offer Code thread have seen, [I]thejester has found three codes that offer Buy One Get One Free on Blu-ray Discs:
802168
805168
809068

The codes are reportedly unlimited, meaning that one can buy numerous BDs and get freebies for each. No free shipping with the code and no sitewide free shipping thus far. Expiration is said to be 11:59 PM EST 3/8/09 but since daylight savings time starts on the 8th, it may be "EDT" instead.

I ordered:

Little Miss Sunshine
Silence of the Lambs

I'm going to wait a day or so to see if we get free shipping before I order any more. Thanks for the heads up! I am starting to run short of wants from CH as my list is now under ten.

No free shipping kills the deal......no thanks. If you have a fulfilled account, I agree. But with an unfulfilled account it is an ok deal even without free shipping:

Suppose one bought two $34.95 MSRP titles, one for fulfillment, the other free. The total cost would be $31.19. Less $15 for the fulfillment credit the cost would be about $16, for an average cost of about $8 each. Sure, it would be better with free shipping, but that's not bad for otherwise expensive BD titles such as The Princess Bride IMO.

Edit:
Actually, the numbers come out to about $10 rather than $8 because the lack of free shipping throws off the calculations somewhat:

Enrollment:
6 x 49¢ + $9.95 = $12.89 (7 DVDs)

Fulfillment, using $34.95 MSRP BDs:
$26.21 + (free BD) + $26.21 + (free BD) + $8.96 (shipping) = $61.38 (4 BDs)

Total:
$12.89 + $61.38 = $74.27 (7 DVDs plus 4 BDs)

Average relative cost of BDs:
($74.27 - ($4.80 x 7))/4 = ($74.27 - $33.60)/4 = $40.67/4 = $10.1675

Still a decent deal for $34.95 MSRP BDs. It would be less for $28.95 or $29.95 MSRP BDs and more for $39.95 MSRP BDs, of course.

And, before someone says it, yes, I know that many BD buyers have no interest in buying DVDs and are proud of that fact. But I opened a new membership a month ago precisely so I could fulfill it with BDs, as new titles of interest became available over the next few months.

Dang, I read from someone on here that Columbia House was doing away with the B1G1 FREE with blurays. Just last week I ordered 3 blurays and used a the B1G1 and picked regular dvds. Do you think it is possible to cancel what I have only received one of the discs so far. Any opinions on sending them back, maybe just right return to sender, or should i try to call and just change my free discs to blurays?

No way to know for sure. I'd call them and see if they are willing to let you swap titles for this deal, or cancel what has not shipped yet. But I wouldn't recommend refusing what you ordered. You don't want to get blacklisted.

I am one of those people, but that doesn't stop me. I open TV club accounts. I will gladly take two TV sets for $9.95, and fulfill with B1G1 BD deals such as this. Unfortunately, I already fulfilled my account. But I just applied for a new account, and hopefullly it will be approved before this deal ends.

Woohoo. I have been keeping an unfulfilled account open and stocking my wishlist with new releases, waiting for a Blu-ray B1G1.

Sure, it's not the BEST deal around, since there's no free shipping. But it's a decent deal, and relatively easy. Easier than hunting around for one title at a time, checking prices every week for the best deal.

Plus, since I only had 2 pre-orders, I get the bonus of opening a box full of lots of Blu-rays. It's like a little Christmas all over again.

This. With a little patience, I can usually get the TV shows I want, and the blu-rays I want, for decent prices by cycling accounts and waiting for sales. I always keep one account open, even if it's fulfilled, until there are more TV sets available for enrollment that I want. Then do a quick cycle, and wait for the next B1G1 on Blu-ray.

Gotta say after joining FOR this deal, waiting for this deal, getting excited when the e-mail showed up this morning......really disappointing to see I am still paying $30 after shipping and tax for catalog titles that are normally about $15.99 at Amazon.

Would really like it to work with box sets too so I could get Bourne & Batman. Anyhow, glad it works for some of you!

Box sets will never ever ever be included in B1G1 deals (as the free item), but once or twice a year they do offer free shipping on box sets.

You gotta learn to just buy the ones from CH that average out the best deal you can find. The ones you can get cheaper from Amazon just get them from Amazon. I wanted Little Miss Sunshine and it was 25 bucks plus tax everywhere I looked. I also somewhat wanted Silence of the Lambs and besides it having a crappy case and seeming half-assed it too is averaging about 25 bucks or more. I'm getting both of these from CH for a bit over 30. This is the type of scenario that makes these CH Blu-Ray sales ideal. I also plan on pre-ordering Final Destination and taking A History of Violence for free. Even if I don't get free shipping on both of those it will come out right at 26 dollars for a 13 apiece average which is better than I'll get anywhere else for a new copy of these movies. And Slumdog will be mine before this sale is over.

Well, I went all-in. Had two accounts to fulfill, so I ended up getting a total of 8 Blu-rays: Slumdog Millionaire, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Cadillac Records, Milk, Lakeview Terrace, W., Raging Bull, and The French Connection. Grand total of $147.42 with NY tax and shipping, average of $18.42 each. Nothing to write home about, but lower prices than average (and lower than I'd get at the bi-annual 20% off sales) and those accounts are done.

That's why most of us cycle accounts to get much lower costs on DVDs and BDs. Buying DVDs or BDs on a fulfilled account usually isn't much better than a good sale at Amazon.

That's life with Columbia House: you are either willing to cycle accounts or you end up paying a LOT more for the convenience of not cycling.

I disagree. I put the two items you name in my cart and they come to a total of $15... $7.50 each. Not the best deal I admit, but much better than you indicate. Put two Harry Potter catalog titles in the cart and they are about $11 each... hard to beat.
Don't be confused by the site pricing which I have always thought was totally whacked. During a B1G1 most newer blu will be ~$15 each and most catalog blu will be ~ $11... put them in the cart to be sure.
I agree with dsa_ shea, you have to pick and choose. Be selective in these sales any you can do very well.

I stand corrected. I think the prices changed since I tried it, because that additional discount was not there when I did it. I also did not see the S&H charge get added, but I did not move past updating my credit card.

It looks like CH has changed the prices of almost all Blu-Rays in the upward direction. Plus, it seems that they have disabled your ability to go in and enter a promotion code. Please tell me I'm wrong because if Blu-Rays are now 34.95 to 39.95 then CH can piss off.

Blu-ray Disc prices remain at the usual 25% off MSRP:

$19.95 >> $14.96
$28.95 >> $21.71
$29.95 >> $22.46
$34.95 >> $26.21
$35.95 >> $26.96
$39.95 >> $29.96

That's too bad too, but then, it's Columbia House. For them a new technique just means new ways to make mistakes that benefit us.

Anyway, I haven't ordered yet, but I've got my eye on The Matrix, Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale and Zach and Miri to fulfill an account. Total comes out to about $65.

Also, I've been playing around and you can use clearance, DOTD and under $20 sets as a B1 and get the cheap Blu-Rays free. I don't know if there's any good deals to be had, but I thought I'd toss it out there.

I picked up The Princess Bride pre-order and Stargate: The Ark of Truth (sold my DVD a couple of weeks ago) to use one of my fulfillments. I'll wait a few months to use the other, when there are some new BD titles to order. Im sure you guys have your own justifications of why the B1G1 deal is or isnt worth it, but for someone like me that is at the very beginning stages of upgrading my DVD archive to blu-ray, the deal was wonderful. Sure, it cost me almost 300 bucks for 20 new or high profile BD movies, including shipping, but considering that I had to scratch and claw to buy six older BD movies for 100 bucks elsewhere, I'll take it in a heartbeat.

IMO, anytime you can find BD at a B1G1 free deal anywhere, as long as the price markup isnt insane, you win. So if spending 36 bucks for The Matrix and Transformers BDs isnt enough of a win for you, since you cant buy either for 18 (including tax), you have major misconceptions of how the game is played.

This was definitely a decent deal but better deals will come in the near future and that's why some people chose to hold out. Patience will prevail but in the mean time this was a decent sale. In the end, if you're happy with your loot that's all that matters :) I have too much loot (well over 400 Blu-rays) so I can afford to wait!

It's been three months since the last Blu-ray BOGO sale with free shipping. This was the first time that they did away with the online code box during the sale. I have a bad feeling that the days of combining a Blu-ray BOGO with free shipping may be behind us.

Im sure there will be a B1G1 Bluray with free shipping at some point during the year. CH seems to have one monster sale at least once a year.

When I used to be a funcash whore, I'd wait on the triple funcash deal with free shipping that would come twice a year. And CH never let me down.

Now, I wouldnt hold my breath on when the next B1G1 will be, but I am sure they'll do another one in 2009 and maybe include free shipping. But a B1G1, even without FS is surely better than no deal at all.

Well, that was quick. My first box of Blu-rays showed up today. Two orders, sent in 3 shipments on 3/5, and this is the first one to show up.

Once my 2 pre-orders ship, it will be time to close this account, open another TV account, and wait for the next B1G1 sale.

Between this sale and the recent Disney Club blu-ray sale, I got quite a few recent releases at decent prices. Better prices than Amazon, anyway.

This happened to me during the end-of-December sale. It was Hell to fix but I fixed it. I just went into my Microsoft Outlook Columbia House archive and I set 10 emails to Customer Service before this was fixed. Keep in mind my order was placed on 12/8/08...this wasn't resolved 100% until 3/11/09!!!!

In my case I had ordered 50 total BD's over 6 orders of which 25 were the "Buy 1" and 25 were the "Get 1 Free." The problem was CH wouldn't ship the 6 they cancelled (which were the free ones of course) because at the time I had received more free BD's than BD's I had paid for due to a significant number of pre-orders. So, once I figured out that is what they were doing (after speaking with a CSR on the phone that could have cared less about being alive) I waited until all my pre-orders were paid for and delivered. I then contacted Customer Service at which point they shipped me the remaining 6 free BDs and then did a bill adjustment the next day.

So, I would suggest contacting Customer Service via the web form first to see if you can straighten this out and if not give them a call to feel out what the issue is. Keep in mind my story and realize that you may have to wait until your pre-orders are paid for and shipped before contacting them again.

Two of the items I ordered were pre-orders. Maybe I should just wait to see if they attempt to ship them then and, if not, wait until the next B1G1 free (hopefully with free shipping). I don't want to have a big hassle to deal with. I have so many movies to watch as it is anyway.

Thanks for the help.

I think the difference between your situation and mine is that the only 6 BD's that CH didn't ship to me due to a bad credit card were 6 FREE BD's. It sounds like they didn't ship ANY of yours. My situation was extremely weird because I could not for the life of me understand why they would even try to charge me for 6 FREE BD's in the first place.

Any who...if you really want them an email will likely get them shipped but they might really screw up your order too. Once a B1G1 sale ends CH has to charge you full price and then do an adjustment due to "system limitations." So, you can expect that to happen without a doubt given that the sale is over.

It's okay now. I'm fine with the failed charged and "Processed" order now that I can re-order them with free shipping to boot!

^You lucked out with the new deal!

Got The Princess Bride pre-order yesterday. Perfect condition, as usual.

That worked out quite well :) It's not too often that CH screws up billing and people are happy about it!!!
