Splice---Vincenzo Natali / Guillermo Del Toro
Natali directing, Del Toro producing stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley.
The film is about Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named Dren, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly.

Been following this one for a long time. The creature design is outstanding, and Natali has had to remain in relative obscurity for entirely too long, so hopefully he can gain a bit more notariety from this. It's too bad that Del Toro, who's becoming as bad as Tim Burton and Tarantino in taking "name" credit for things he had little to do with, is likely to be the one plastered all over the marketing.

Twitch has done a number of articles and interviews on it already.

To be fair, that gives these movies a lot of attention they wouldn't have had otherwise.

So it's the premise of Species (except swapping animal for alien DNA so I should really compare it to The Island of Dr. Moreau) starring the baby of It's Alive...
Meh. I might rent it. Maybe.

I caught the trailer for this the other day and immediately thought of It's Alive. They even went so far as to say "It's Alive!" in the trailer. I'll probably just catch this on video.

I'm surprised more people aren't "talking" about this. I think Sarah Polley can do no wrong and since she doesn't seem to make a lot of movies, I've been following this film's progess for a long time.
At first I didn't think it would get much attention, but I've seen a lot of promotion for it lately and the early reviews seem to be very good.
We tend to wait for a lot of movies now to come out on blu, but we've already planned to see this with our best friends opening weekend.

I was surprised to find all the good reviews on this.
86% on RT(12-2)
I'm gonna see it as it's rather rare to get good stuff in the 'horror' genre.

i read i think on IMDB that the small indie studio Magnolia was set to buy it at sundance, but Joel Silver and Warner bought it instead, thats prob why a movie like this is getting much more press and advertising then it prob would have under Magnolia

Went to a screening of Splice a few weeks ago, and really enjoyed it.
The trailers are selling the film poorly, making it look like a monster/creature movie when it's actually much smarter than that.

Dren is the replacement word for shit in Farscape. Just found that funny.

EW is owned by Time Warner, just FYI...
Caught the film as a screening last month and was severely underwhelmed. The effects are fine, but the acting is weak and the script is embarrassing at times, trying to pursue a silly faux-intellectual tone.
The climax is LOL-worthy. Lots of potential here, but the execution is piss-poor.
Wait for DVD.
