I believe Batman's a lost cause. Neither Fox or Warner will ever budge. A U.S. release for Six Million Dollar Man is unlikely BUT you can pick up the first 2 seasons overseas (Regions 2 & 4). Also, there is a Latin American release for Season 1 which is Region 1. I own this version and Bionic Woman Season 1.

Batman might be a lost cause, but I wish this urban legend about Warner versus Fox would eventually die. This thing is in rights hell but it's not between the two studios...it's everybody else in the world who owns a piece of this thing.

Shit. You're right. There was an article recently on TVShowsonDVD that broke down the legal issues behind the show. I completely forgot about it and defaulted to what I (thought) I knew before.
I stand corrected.

The worst case is that they release it, but do a hatchet job on anything that they have to pay extra for, as was done with WKRP. But it doesn't sound like anything is imminent anyway. It would be interesting to see how many copies of Get Smart have sold, I would guess sales of Batman would be at least as strong.

Whats the difference between Ally McBeal and Batman? Weren't there all kinds of music rights involved with Ally McBeal but it still got released in other regions. The same case should hold true for Batman.

It's just not music with Batman...it's a whole range of things including dead actor's estates and Batman's use of appearances of characters from other TV shows (usually via a window as they were scaling up the wall).

Universal purchased rights to the novel Cyborg way back when. The main characters Steve Austin, Oscar Madison are from the novel. Universal invented The Bionic Woman on their own.
Universal's rights to the novel/characters was about to expire and they needed to renew it. Disney wanted to make a Six Million Dollar Man feature film and beat Universal to the punch when their rights expired. Disney owns the title Six Million Dollar Man and the characters Steve Austin, Oscar Madison, and maybe Rudy, not sure about him. These characters also appear in the Bionic Woman tv series. Universal owns the show and prints but Disney now has exclusive rights to the characters.
Universal was able to make a new Bionic Woman tv series because they originated/own that character. I never saw the new show but bet there's no Oscar Madison in it.
