This sucks! Edie was my favorite character, because she's so deliciously evil. I loved Nicolette Sheridan in this role. This makes me sad!

ABC: Nicollette Sheridan leaving `Housewives'

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- ABC says Nicollette Sheridan is leaving "Desperate Housewives."

The 45-year-old Sheridan plays vamp Edie Britt on the comedy-drama about domestic life on Wisteria Lane. The network did not say Wednesday when Sheridan's role would end.

Her departure was first made public by TV Guide magazine.

A call to Sheridan's publicist was not immediately returned.

"Desperate Housewives," a top 20 show and one of ABC's most successful series, stars Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria Parker.

Edie Britt Is Leaving Desperate Housewives

After five seasons on Desperate Housewives, the saucy, sassy Edie Britt is leaving the show, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

"[Nicollette] had a great time on the show and is looking forward to her next project," a rep for Sheridan said in a statement. (Interestingly though, an ABC rep would only confirm, via email, that the character would be leaving the show. Semantics, a slip of the keyboard, mind games? We'll see.)

Though Edie has at times been the fifth wheel in the Housewives mix, with less screen time than the show's original four ladies, this season's central mystery involves Edie's mysterious new husband, Dave Williams (Neal McDonough), and his possibly sinister intentions for moving to Edie's idyllic neighborhood.

No word yet on how Edie will depart the show, but it should be noted that she has "left" the 'hood once before. At the end of Season 4, she moved to Boston, and was essentially gone from Wisteria Lane during the five-year time jump that took place between Seasons 4 and 5 before returning at the beginning of this season.

It’s the end of an Edie.

Nicollette Sheridan’s saucy character Edie Britt will be leaving Wisteria Lane on Desperate Housewives, PEOPLE has confirmed.

“She had a great time on the show and is looking forward to her next project,” her rep says.

But don’t call the movers just yet. Her rep adds, “Her final episode doesn’t air until April.”

The show’s finale is set to air in May. And there’s no word on how she’ll go out. – Pamela Warrick

Is she leaving of her own will, or being pushed out? I would think the latter, to set up the mystery for next year. It's too bad, but she is one of my favorite characters, probably because she isn't as overused as the others.

Agreed. If she is choosing to leave, she is just flat out stupid. "Looking forward to her next project", indeed. She should ride the wave until this show gets cancelled and enjoy the syndication paychecks. She isn't likely to find anything better.

I think they should explain her out by saying that she is movie to Knot's Landing where she was a cast member for a number of years.

Actually, I prefer Edie to Dana's character. Edie tells the other 4 the truth whether they want to hear it or not and it's funny to see the girls gang up on her.
