Life on Mars -- "Let All the Children Boogie" -- 2/11/09

Life on Mars

Synopsis:

Death threats against a rock star pull Sam and Chris into the rocker's over-the-top world, where a spacey groupie and an FBI agent known as The Sorcerer (Wallace Shawn) play prominent roles. A turn in the investigation makes Sam wonder if he has now found a way to get back to his time.

There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow out minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me,
"Let the children use it
Let the children lose it
Let all the children boogie"
INCONCEIVABLE! Best show on TV right now. Boogie down, banana.

This was a great episode. Interesting mystery, lots of humor, and a nice way to tie everything up at the end.

Solid episode for sure and easily getting better week to week... however I'm trying not to get too attached because the ratings have been sinking like a stone.

Really? That sucks. I assume the season finale's been filmed by now. I wonder if it'll end on a cliffhanger (regarding Sam getting back home) or if they wrap things up nicely, should this show not get renewed. I have a feeling it'll be the former.

I think im the only one then that thinks this show went downhill after its hiatus..it could take place in any era at this point and it just seem to ahve a cheesy feel to it now..as with most ABC shows
I do want to check out the orignal version of this show though

Re: Life on Mars -- "Let All the Children Boogie" -- 2/11/09

are people really not watching this show? i know the ratings are tanking and the show is headed for cancellation, but it is so good. too bad.

also, i am sure this was discussed, but were last week's and this week's episode out of order? this one seemed like it should have followed the one where he did Maggie Siff in the station...

After the break, it appears ABC aired episode 11, then 8, then 12.

Yep, they're definitely airing them out of order.

That's what I was wondering. I really haven't been into these episodes since the hiatus. I thought the previous episodes were better.

Was she real? I always thought that only he saw her.

Some casting news:

Spoiler:
Fred D. Thompson set for TV return
Published: Feb. 13, 2009 at 9:58

NEW YORK, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Actor and former U.S. presidential candidate Fred D. Thompson is set to make his return to television in an episode of "Life on Mars," ABC announced.

Thompson, 66, is to portray Police Chief Harry Woolf in the Feb. 25 installment of the 1970s-set cop drama, which stars Jason O'Mara, Harvey Keitel, Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol and Jonathan Murphy.

Thompson, who served as a Republican senator representing Tennessee from 1994 through 2003, was a cast member of "Law & Order" for five years and made appearances on the show's spinoffs "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

Thompson's bid for the Republican nomination for U.S. president was unsuccessful last year as Sen. John McCain became the party's candidate in the election.

Sure, he'll show up to the set, but his heart won't really be in it.

Sebastian Grace and The Electric Insects
Love the thinly veiled Bowie reference to Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. The actor playing Sebastian was so playing the androdgyny right in that opening party scene.

I was really into this ep right up until they came back from break, after he went back to the Marsh area. I was also kinda "WTF?" about the "explanation" for what happened. It was still a good ep though.

Apparently the ratings did well this time around.

"Life on Mars" Beats Originals of "CSI: NY" and "Law & Order" in Men 18-34

Up in Men 18-34 for the 2nd Week in a Row, "Life on Mars" Hits a Series High and ABC's Best Number in the Time Slot with Regular Programming Since October 2007

Great episode, I'm liking this show more as they intersperse the detective work with Sam trying to find out why he's there. I thought they focused too much on the former in previous episodes.

ABC aired the episodes out of order after the break. this week's should have been the first one back after Tyler's closet hook-up. Episode 109 "Dark Side of the Mook" after the hiatus, 1/28/09. Episode 108 "Take a Look at the Lawmen should have been on 2/4/09. Even ABC's website hasn't revised the screw-up.
