Battlestar Galactica -- "Blood on the Scales" -- 2/6/2009
Spoiler:
I completely forgot to start this thread yesterday until I was watching the episode and by then I was too busy to come back. I thought for sure someone would have stepped up by now!
What an amazing back-to-back run. I loved everything about this episode.
Zarek assassinating the Quorum was so amazingly epic even though I saw it coming a mile away. He's like Emperor Palpatine to Gaeta's Anakin.
I hope next week's continues to up the ante, but I'm afraid it might be more run-of-the-mill Cylon stuff.

holy shit, since its return, this show has been absolutely brilliant.
as sad as I am to see it go, ALL shows should have a finite lifespan IMO, so that the creators can really work on a fantastic ending, and have a "no holds barred" approach to whomever they want to kill off. Major characters are being offed left and right!!!!!!

Given the events mentioned in the promo for next week's episode, I wonder if we're going to get an updated version of the last supper picture?
This story arc has been incredible.

^ Agreed with everyone so far.
Another excellent episode. All shows should try to end this way if they could. You don't know know what the fuck is going to happen and they've proven they have the balls to kill about anyone at this point.

Regarding the cracks in ship, I think this is the start of something big.
"a dying leader, who will guide the tribes to salvation"...does this refer to the Battlestar Galactica itself? The show is based upon machines gaining consciousness, human traits, etc. Inanimate objects are what started the war and also led them to safety from complete annihilation. The Battlestar Galactica being the object that leads the entire fleet.
They always talk about how "this has happened before and it will happen again" so maybe this is the cycle they are referring to. Maybe we are seeing the evolution of the machines. They start to show small signs of life....begin to have a mind of their own....fast forward to cylons.
Don't forget that it was another inanimate object (Kara's viper) that led them to Earth.
Is the "dying leader" the actual battlestar?

They are letting the ship go to crap. Don't even have enough people to check the FTL drive now and then. Another jump probably would have killed them all.

Loved this episode as well. I'm glad they resolved the insurrection fairly quickly.
Thought the most telling scene was the one where the guy told Adama that he respected him, but can't follow a leader who won't fight a Cylon. Good stuff.

Yeah, I'm not sure what Tyrol saw, either.
I'm glad that little d-bag Felix finally got what was coming to him. Same goes for the terrorist. They should have capped him from Day 1.

So glad BSG seems to be back. Too bad we had to endure nearly 2 seasons of crap first.

Too bad the insurrection didn't succeed. My only hope now is that the Cylons that still want them all dead find them and destroy the entire fleet.

what is so great about this show, is in two years, they will do another razor type movie, where everything Gata and the VP were doing will be completely justified when shown through the perspective of the civilian fleet.

The only thing I was disappointed with was that we didn't get to see Tigh and Lee save Adama. I was really looking forward to it and then cut to Adama safe and the firing squad on their knees.

I have to say that these episodes have been disappointing.
The Cylons are the BAD guys.
And I can't begin to express how lame the argument that Gata had with Starbuck was. It was Gata making valid points while Starbuck made jokes about his leg.
At this point I hope the Cylons take over and wipe out galactica. No one on the ship is worth saving anyways.

This was the most gut wrenching, devastating episode of tv I've ever watched. I don't think I've ever screamed at a tv screen more.
Damn, I've been depressed the entire day after, as well.

Solid episode.
I'm sad to see Gaeta go, but it was written on the wall last episode. Zarek has always been a cipher, but I was curious whether he'd turn dictatorial once he had the power. He didn't fail to impress.
Adm. Adama and the President both need to go. Beyond betraying the trust of the civilians under their care, they just executed a senior staff member for precisely the same crime that Adama committed against Cain two seasons ago. Funny how mutiny is just fine when you're the one perpetrating it. The President's speech was painful and poorly delivered; I've never cared for steely Roslin, as she's rarely anything more than a screechy bat devoid of any real power.
And yet again a highly trained, heavily armed marine is overwhelmed by the unarmed prisoner (a one-legged lawyer, no less). They should just let the prisoners walk themselves to the brig on the honor system.
With Gaeta and D gone, there're no likable officers left. I guess they could drag Boomer out of mothballs or introduce a new Athena/Hera plotline, but right now all of the main characters are childish, power-hungry, or in cahoots with the beings that wiped out the human race.

The beings that wiped out the human race have changed. The humans realize they can't survive on their own and it is each other's mutual best interest to work together.
Working with old enemies is not justification for a mutiny and mass murder to secure your dictatorship.
It isn't enough to survive. One has to be worthy of survival.
