Superman The Movie Theatrical Version Audio Question

Hello all,

I'm a little late with this release, but I just purchased the 4 disc standard version at Amazon Marketeplace. I'm well aware of the audio problems this had when it was first released. My question is how do I determine if I have the "fixed" 2.0 audio version? I own the 2001 Extended version and I must admit that the sound on that disc has clouded my memory as to how the original audio is supposed to sound since I haven't seen the original since 1978 and the occasional TV viewings.

Any help would be appreicated.
Thanks

Re: Superman The Movie Theatrical Version Audio Question

remind me: what was the audio screwup?

as for the theatrical release - the opening credit scene is the one the best... period, the whoshing of the names in split stereo surround sound on the 70mm print... at the Uptown, now that was breathtaking!

Re: Superman The Movie Theatrical Version Audio Question

From DVDTalk review on November 28, 2006:

"the movie's original stereo track is absent. The stereo track
which appears here is instead a mix edited down from the 2000 expanded edition. The problem with this is that some of the sound effects were replaced for the updated version, which caused a bit of an uproar among fans. Plus, the original stereo is what's been advertised by Warner. Apparently this was just an authoring mistake and nothing sinister."

I agree, it is one of the greatest opening credits ever!
